Petracca on the Move?
That is a firm no to user name and post content!

Isaac Smith
Turns 31 in December so Hawthorn would project he is not in their next flag team. Isaac has played his best footy but still played to a reasonable standard this season. From a Dees perpsective he fits an obvious need but given likely to get only 1 or 2 good seasons Hawks will likely want more than he is worth.

Mad monday celebrations
Dees players gathered at Max's bar on the Sunday night according to my reliable Camberwell Market Dee's source.

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
Break even figure is a different to figure budgeted for home game attendance. Unless we were very conservative with our home game attendance forecasts the drop off in attendances will see a shortfall in actual revenue to forecast revenue.

Damien Barrett's scathing assessment of the MFC
I thought I'd got the starting time wrong and arrived way early to my reserved seat in the Tridents on L2 of Southern Stand for the Tiges game. I'd arrived 30 minutes before the first bounce. I suspect that attendances at home games were significantly under budget forecasts, particularly for the run of home games against the Tigers, Pies and Swans, and we're going to make a reasonably significant loss. I could be wrong.

Jordan Lewis - Assistant coach?
Lewis will seemingly head to media. Probably more lucrative and less time consuming than starting out as an assistant coach. Quite like his media work, more incisive than most retired players turned commentators. The rug is a tad distracting.

Adem Yze - Assistant Coach?
The Ooze chastising a player for a lack of defensive pressure may even satisfy Alannis' pedantry! Clarkson is the best coach of the modern era so he has been learning from the best at tactical innovation and getting players to understand and implement that tactical innovation.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
Need players with speed/endurance mix on wings and flanks. Langdon fits that profile. Baker looks promising. Cant play inside mids on wing or flank. They'll get sucked into contest robbing us of width and they'll be outrun by their more athletic opponents.

Sam Frost - Contract status
Prymke was not enigmatic. No frills but very effective Centre Half Back cruelled by injury.

Sam Frost - Contract status
Outstanding athlete. Still maturing as a footballer and has more work to do on decision making and execution. Encourage to use his pace and take the game on but work hard on decision making to capitalise on his metres gained.

Mad monday celebrations
Hope they don't try and handball any beers or there'll be Bruce-ian carnage.

Oliver Sprays Fritsch
To a degree our lack of width impacts Oliver. He wins lots of contested ball but all too often all his teammates are with him at the contest rather than some holding their width off the contest in space for the release handball. Too often this results in a handball that simply handballs the pressure to a teammate 1 metre away. However like most of his teammates Oliver has to spend off season improving endurance and power. And he could learn off Fritsch passing up the 1 metre handball in favour of short pass to a player inside 50.

Will Carlscum rise up the ladder?
Sadly the Blues have finally managed to transport themselves from the 1990s to the second decade of the new century.

Kade Chandler Set to Debut
Not an inside mid or utility. Good.
-
Jack Viney
Needs an interrupted preseason. Played Round 1 this year after only 1 preseason game the week prior after 2 years interrupted by the same foot injury. Needs to get through preseason loads required to attain level of fitness an AFL mid requires.

Port and PwC
Presume PWC will use sponsorship as leverage to get more SA govt work. The Big 4 earn a bucketload from government contracts.

Aaron vandenBerg
We're a better team when he is on the park but he ain't on the park often enough. Offering him a 3 year deal to ward off the Swans was always going to come with risk that his foot/ankle problems would continue to prevent him being consistently available. Has to be risk that he will be unable to complete workload required to get to level of fitness required to play AFL. AFL clubs do consistently re contract chronically injured players who go on to be chronically injured over term of that contract.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

Darren Burgess officially our new fitness coach.
Good news.

Jordan Lewis is NOT cooked, give him 1 more season.
Possibly first time that Jordan Lewis has been mentioned in the company of 2 of the all time greats of our game! And thats not to to underplay his career. 4 flags and a best and fairest in a flag year. Lewis just does not have many matchups left. He is now treacle slow and goes to ground too often. We desperately need to add more speed and linebreaking run.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs St. Kilda
In: running players Pit: inside mids/utilities Baker must come in though perhaps Goody thinks we need more inside grunt.

What to do with Nathan Jones
when Nathan Jones retires he deserves to take his place with the greats of the Melbourne Football Club. His loyalty to the club and his extraordinary resilience in playing to a high standard through a period where the team he was running out with was barely AFL standard cannot be denied. If he had played in a better team he would be a much more highly regarded goal kicking inside mid. in 2019 its hard to find a spot for him. Not all great mids can successfully extend their career by moving to wing or half forward or half back. His lack of pace means the wing is out, and that also pretty much rules him out as a small forward or back. But then again Goody has found space for Tyson, Lewis and Jones on the wing so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I think club'll let him play on next year if he wants to, and he most likely does. For mine its not the best football decision but a forced retirement would be messy. The question is will Goody tell him he might play VFL a la Lewis this year? We need more speed and ball carriers and Jones looms as an obvious primary casualty of that. Athletes are not always the best judge of when their time is up.

CHANGES: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
Has lost his speed which was a major part of his game. Now gets caught with ball, or disposes under pressure when in past he would have been in space.
-
What to do with Nathan Jones
Struggle to see a role for Jones if he is not onball as I don't think his attributes give him flexibility to play in non onball role. Suspect he'll play on as he wants to but club will need to manage expectations going forward as its a delicate situation given his service in deepressing times.

Injury List - Season 2019
Players coming back from off season surgery moving from preseason mode to inseason matchplay mode before they'd attained required fitness base an issue. Tommy Mac a prime example. Had surgery on both ankles yet was back playing in JLT1 where it was obvious that he was well below his previous fitness levels. He should have stayed in preseason mode putting miles in the legs till he got close to his previous fitness levels. Jack Viney another. Coming off 2 seasons ruined by foot injury he played one Casey praccy match and then straight in for round 1 where his lack of conditioning and match fitness was obvious.
