  1. I suspect that the AFL might not fixture a home game for Melbourne against GWS for fear of a venomous reception from the fans to a certain player. The only certainties I know with the fixture is that Collingwood will get away with a substantial number of games in Melbourne (mainly at the G) and we'll play Geelong at Simmonds Stadium.
  2. No, only the scuttlebutt I read on Demonland.
  3. Don't know what's going to happen with Warnock but, like The Oracle in his Trading Chronicles today, I reckon that North have chosen Will Sierakowski ahead of Maric. I don't believe that they will take both, especially in light of the fact that they have more similar types on their list.
  4. You're wrong. Clubs don't have to use traded draft picks any more. As for Maric, if we can't do a trade he will almost certainly be delisted.
  5. What are we doing playing that stuff in South Africa and who are the people who come to watch it?
  6. There's no question in my mind that getting Goddard would be a major coup and it's not going to be easy convincing either the player or the club but it's worth it. I reckon Goddard himself knows the advantages to be gained by holding out til 2012 and the offers that free agency will being next year. As for St. Kilda, they can only look forward to a season in which the potential for disruption along the lines of Ablett/Geelong/2010 or Scully/Melbourne/2011 is enormous. Can we offer enough to convince them that a trade is worthwhile? It's a challenge.
  7. It was never more than an outside chance from the start and good on them for trying. As we've seen with Judd, Scully and now Clark, you need months if not years to set up the major coups.
  8. Why not try Essendon? They were supposed to be interested earlier in the week.
  9. err... exactly who is Sam Reid?
  10. WOW and that's another major coup for the GIANTS!!!
  11. Tanking? That's ridiculous. Andrew Demetriou has on numerous occasions denied that tanking even exists.
  12. According to a report in the Adelaide Advertiser, that deal involving GWS and Adelaide doesn't necessarily mean that Brad Crouch is the one necessarily going to the Crows - Crows' vexing choice between local and interstate young guns. "Adelaide today faces the vexing choice of the talented local teenager, Ben Kennedy ... or the Victorian who may go home, Brad Crouch." Now, if the Demons were really interested in securing Crouch it might just be worthwhile making a call and possibly offering Adelaide a little sweetener for them to take Kennedy in the event GWS accepted their original offer for Crouch. Now that would be worth a try!
  13. The club wasn't sticking to its morals but rather its principles. I think these will be upheld in future by most AFL clubs, with the possible exception of the Giants who have neither principles or morals. Be that as it may, it's good to see that Green and the club have committed to one another. I hope Brad can do enough in 2012 to justify a further extension - he deserves to be around for our next successful phase. I don't see him as the captain next year but I believe this should push him to improved performances given this would allow him to concentrate solely on his form.
  14. I suspect that GWS would have decided to stop at giving away two mini draft picks this year and keeping the other two for next year. The only thing that my change that would be a massive offer for a third player such as Kennedy. However, given that Melbourne had a walk away position with regard to the two main picks, it's unlikely that it would offer overs to get third choice.
  15. He played only eigh games in his inaugural year at the Suns. Was there a reason forn such a low number? Injury?
  16. Not a bad suggestion given Matthew Warnock appears headed in that direction.
  17. Well that's a breakthrough. The AFL actually upholding the spirit and intent of the rules. Pity they didn't think of that before they allowed GWS to offer obscene amounts to 20 and 21 year old kids before luring them away from their original clubs which had no chance of matching those offers even if they had the inclination to do so. I've always maintained that the mini draft order should have been determined before trade week got under way. The situation now is that nothing much is going to be finalised until the mini draft order is determined tomorrow evening. After that we can expect a frenzy of activity from Friday through the weekend and until the closure on Monday. At least the AFL should be congratulated for recognising they were creating a monster and doing the right thing for once although I suspect it might be too late and the GWS is going to be problematic for a long time.
  18. Apparently, the Marty Clark deal is about to go through as well.
  19. Rumour has it that the Blues are keen to offload Brock McLean in the trades despite reports of this achiement:
  20. He was definitely a Norwood player when Melbourne was considering him at around 1976 when he was young and coming into calculations as a player worth looking at to recruit for the VFL.
  21. Just going off track a second, the SANFL grand final's on today and an upset's brewing with the Woodville West Torrens Eagles leading perennial premier Central Districts by 25 points halfway through the second quarter.
  22. Thanks Treners. Perhaps if someone has the time, they can keep up a running commentary on what the programme's covering. Looking at my schedule tomorrow, I think my only chance to catch up will be during lunchtime. (I guess it's sandwiches tomorrow then).
  23. News today that Brett Lovett and Sandringham have parted ways. Lovett has a good reputation as a coach at VFL level and it will be interesting to see if we snap him up if Brad Gotch isn't reappointed at Casey. (yes, I'm aware he's Garry Lyon's brother in law).
  24. Back in the 60s and 70s, the Big O (Roy Orbison) was all the rage but there's also another interesting aspect of Craig's background which is that he played for SANFL club Norwood which was considered in those days as the MFC's sister (ouch) club. They wear red and blue and are known as the Redlegs and, on my infrequent visits to Adelaide, I used to support them. We recruited Graham Molloy, a Tassie Medallist - best player in the old national carnivals - from Norwood (c. 1970) and they recruited Ross Dillon and Stephen Kerley from us. Craig was playing for them in the mid 70s when his name was recommended to the club as a potential recruit along with another Norwood player Jim Thiel. I believe the latter suffered a long term injury and, in the end, nothing became of the idea of recruiting either or both of them. Anyway, he's finally made it here.
