THE END OF DEMONLAND (Coming Soon?)
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm going overseas for a few weeks after the Doggies game. Please don't kill off Demonland. There's nothing else to read in Costa Rica. -
They could do worse although I suppose it depends very much on the board members.I'm sure Beamer and Stef would feel right at home If you want to hurt them, let them have our previous recruiting personell.

Reactions to Viney case: Bigger than Hollywood
Whispering_Jack replied to TGR's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. Even though I've joined in the chorus of hysteria on the subject, I'm genuinely concerned that this entire saga might adversely affect the performance of the team just as it did a few year's ago when another Jack was victimised by a BS tribunal decision. He's never been the same ever since and we lost our momentum after beating Adelaide by more than 15 goals. Worse still, the alleged victim, a heavily concussed Mr. Dangerfield recovered to play in six days and kicked a suitcase load of goals. There's no justice in the world, we should all shut up, lie back in a supine position and think of England. -
Now seriously folks. Do any of you really know what the Gat really looks like? Surely, those who have passed by these wonderful premises would know that nowadays it doesn't have a 10th floor? The photograph of the entrance tells it all anyway - a wonderful example of post imperial splendor - a place where business executives can take their third wives on an exciting dream honeymoon.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
Whispering_Jack replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Here's the injury list from this article on the club's site - Frawley 50/50 for clash against Bulldogs Melbourne injury list: round eight James Frawley (toe) test Jesse Hogan (back) indefinite James Harmes (lung) 1 week Max King (shin) 4-6 weeks Viv Michie (jaw) available Jake Spencer (ankle) 3 weeks Jack Trengove (foot) season Jack Watts (back) test Good to see Viv Michie back after that broken jaw but what happened to Jake Spencer (last week - test)? That ankle has turned into a 5 week injury given he's now missed a couple. Then you can add Jack Viney (crucifixion) 2 weeks and Dean Kent is also facing the VFL Tribunal for an alleged offense from last Sunday. -

The Jack Viney bump that never was!

It won't be David Neitz who might have a conflict of interest since he not only captained Viney's club but played footy with Jack's dad. -

"Match Review Panel Jack Viney, Melbourne, has been charged with Engaging in Rough Conduct against Tom Lynch, Adelaide Crows, during the first quarter of the Round Seven match between Melboure and the Adelaide Crows played at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday May 3, 2014. In summary, the matter has been directly referred to the Tribunal for its determination and he cannot accept an early plea on this matter." Referring to Tribunal The Match Review Panel may refer any matter to the Tribunal if it considers it appropriate to do so, based on the circumstances of the offence, the record of the player involved, any suspected mitigating factors of any unusual features of any report. -
Goes to Collingwood's Tom Langdon for his 23 possession game against Carlton on Friday night. Congratulations. The following day Melbourne's Jay Kennedy-Harris picked up 25 touches but hey ... who at the AFL really cares about what happens in Adelaide?

GWS Giants List Manager Steve Silvagni on the Sunday Footy Show, speaking to Damo about Tom Scully "We're delighted with the leadership Dom ... er, Tom actually provides on the field and off the field." Freudian slip? Sounds like he rues the loss of Dom Tyson?

Let's crack 50,000 on Saturday Night

I think that in view of the MRP's disgraceful attack on Jack Viney's integrity, we should take the word "crack" out of the title to this thread. -

Whispering_Jack replied to Matt Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
How many weeks did David Wojcinski get when he broke Jack's jaw in two places in a VFL game in 2012? Two weeks (served concurrently with a one week suspension for a separate incident) so effectively, one week for what looked to me as a deliberate act and one in which there was no intervention from another player that could have played a role in the injury to the other player. -
Too true ... The bush telegraph is out of control. All that's been presented has been someone's interpretation of what was told at a team huddle and it's something that runs counter to much of what Welsh has said and done publicly. My observation is that over a long period through the Daniher and Bailey years our coaches worked on an attacking game plan which was a departure from that adopted by several of the more successful clubs of the past decade. The introduction of Neeld was supposed to add a more defensive edge and this failed. Roos is starting to get the message across to the team but we know that this requires more skill and stronger, more experienced bodies. This is exactly why developing the same game plan is a more difficult assignment at Casey than it is at Melbourne. The Scorpions have the younger Demons and, apart from Panozza most of their VFL aligned players don't have the experience or strength of AFL players. Werribee had a number of bigger bodied stronger players who eventually wore Casey down. It's been a pattern for most of the season and, at times quite frustrating to watch. If you think it's been tough over the past few years to take the transition required to become a team that plays the modern style of football at Melbourne then it's doubly so at Casey. Of course, the club might have kept the Magner/Couch types down there for another year and this would have certainly resulted in more wins, but exactly what would that have achieved?

Garland gets a 50 metre penalty and goals from the goalsquare to make it a 5 point game. That's Casey's first goal for the half.
