And another to Werribee 57 - 47. Casey has kicked 2 points since about 20 minutes into the second quarter. A pathetic effort.
-
Inevitably, Werribee hits the front after six unanswered goals. Casey simply can't get clean possessions. They should lose by 3 or 4 goals from here.
-
Goal to Werribee and it looks only a matter of time for the Tigers to take this one out.
-
Three quarter time: Casey Scorpions 7.4.46 lead Werribee 5.8.38. The Scorpions have been goalless since just after the halfway mark of the second term and would need to lift if they want to win this. Goals Smith 2 Best Evans Fitzpatrick Page Strauss
-
Werribee have taken over here and trail by only 9 points. Casey struggling to score although I might say the Tigers have been assisted by some interesting umpiring decisions.
-
Playing well.
-
Rain and greasy conditions here has made scoring difficult. Casey Scorpions lead by 16 points but their intensity has diminished.
-
Late resurgence by Werribee narrows the Casey lead to 18 points at half time. Casey 7.3.45 to Werribee 4.3.27.
-
Quick response from Werribee with two goals in a row 45 - 21.
-
Best goals to extend Casey's lead.
-
Garlo doing well as Casey go to a 31 point lead (39 - 8) with a goal to Page.
-
Yes ... Strauss has been drifting forward - it was a good quarter for the home side but the Tigers have the wind in the second term.
-
Quarter time: Casey Scorpions 5.1.31 to 1.1.7. Goals Smith 2 Evans Fitzpatrick Strauss
-
Another off the ground to Smith gives the Scorps a 25 point lead.
-
Goals to Smith from a good mark, Strauss and Fitzpatrick give Casey a 25 -6 lead. Gawn and McKenzie doing well at the stoppages.
-
Werribee Tigers get the first goal and lead 6 - 0. As with last week, the Scorpions are finding it difficult to score but having written that, Michael Evans goals to level the scores.

And, as the late Jack Dyer used to say, "he'll have a better debut next time".

I've got a good feeling about Pedo today. Driving to my grandson's basketball game today I passed a place called "Ped's Cafe" in Waverley Road, Malvern and then as I went further down the road on the corner of Warragul Road there was a sign that said "Give way to Peds" - an omen if there ever was one that he's going to play a blinder.

You're not a student of history are you?

Nic Nat criticisms starting to build

The debate continues to rage but irrespective of how poor Naitanui's form has been recently, he does have that ability to quickly turn a game that I haven't seen yet from Jack Watts. Otherwise, both would be regarded as disappointing under-achievers given their high draft positions and that will remain the case as long as we have drafts. Just look at Whitfield, O'Rourke, Plowman and Toumpas from a couple of years ago - although we should still be prepared to give them some time. Scully is the one who really has managed to escape scrutiny. Given his pay packet, I find it extraordinary that anyone can talk up his performance against Gold Coast. Firstly, you don't pay a million bucks plus a year for a tagger, let alone one whose opponent kicks two goals, gets 30 disposals and lays eleven tackles in a 40 point win while getting only 6 kicks and 10 handballs himself. I put that down as a massive fail when compared to Ablett's 19 disposals against Jordie McKenzie (with some help) up on the Coast last year. The million dollar man should be under the microscope because every week there are teammates out there who are paid far less but contributing far more to their team's effort than Scully and how he's managed two top 5 b & f's in his two years at that club is quite frankly , a complete joke. -
It's been years since I first tasted the beauty of Adelaide Oval during a summertime visit to family when I caught a game of cricket there - one of the tests during the World Series of Cricket years with the Aussie team decimated by the Packer cricket revolution. Adelaide was such a sleepy town then - you had to drive for miles to find an open milk bar to get a loaf of bread and a pint of milk on a Sunday. I've been back a few times but I won't be there today. I'll be getting my fix of footy via Fox Footy and, as I've explained here, I'm not expecting anything pretty but I do hope that we do stay the course today and over the coming months no matter what. I was reflecting on this as I watched Carlton's fighting final quarter against Collingwood last night. The Blues kicked eight goals in the last half an hour and many of their fans walked away thinking about the great fightback they'd just seen after their team was restricted to only two goals over the first three quarters. I would have been more worried about their team's ineptitude during that part of the game when the pressure was on and when the Pies strangled the life out of them with their tight defensive football. The job was done by the final break and the game opened up completely enabling a scoring avalanche but I think it was pretty much irrelevant. I'm appreciating Paul Roos as a coach even more when I compare him with Malthouse. There are no excuses with him even though we've been hit hard with injuries to key players in important positions which has tested our depth immensely. I'm still looking forward immensely to what should be another challenging day in Adelaide - especially to seeing Christian Salem and Jay Kennedy-Harris who along with Jack Viney and Dom Tyson should play an important role in our future.

And here's the preview. Werribee slaughtered the previously unbeaten Northern Blues last week while Casey had a poor game at home against Sandringham. On that form line, things don't look too flash for the Scorps.

Fifty years ago today, Melbourne had little trouble in beating Carlton to record its first home win for the season in front of a crowd of 45,495 Melbourne 2.5.17 6.10.46 8.12.60 11.13.79 Carlton 1.1.7 1.3 .9 1.6.12 4.9.33 THE TEAM B: Neil Crompton Bernie Massey Len Mann HB: Tony Anderson Brian Roet Brian Leahy C: Brian Dixon "Hassa" Mann Graeme Watson HF: Bryan Kenneally John Lord Ray Groom F: Ron Barassi Barry Bourke John Townsend FOLL: Bob "Tassie" Johnson Graham Wise Ken Emselle 19/20: Barrie Vagg Don Williams Goalkickers: Ron Barassi Barry Bourke Ken Emselle John Townsend 2 Ray Groom Bryan Kenneally John Lord Best Don Williams Brian Roet Ken Emselle Ron Barassi Brian Dixon Bernie Massey Both teams struggled for goals but the Demons at least had a spread of goalkickers while the Blues struggled to kick goals. Victorian state cricketer Graeme Watson made his debut joining Sheffield Shield teammate Neil Crompton. Watson went on to play test cricket for his country in the following year.
