I don’t have much time for drug users but FWIW - Doping bans for 'street drugs' likely to be cut, too late for Murray
  2. Would Bennell by any chance be mates with Jack Martin?
  3. There’s an 87% chance that this is going to benefit the club.
  4. Not this year - too young.
  5. Any info on whether Peter Cloke played in any MFC practice matches before he played for Richmond? I’m thinking late 60s.

Is there anything to suggest that he’s on Melbourne’s radar?

  8. The club already has Aaron Nietschke recovering from an ACL but, as we’ve seen, there have been plenty of players who have recovered from early knee reconstructions to play good footy at the highest level. Question is how his recovery has gone and how good can he be? I suppose at pick 97 or whatever the number turns out to be, he probably wouldn’t be too great a risk if the medicals show he has recovered physically.
  9. In this interview with Rex Hunt, former Richmond and Collingwood big man David Cloke says that he was meant to come to Melbourne at the same time the club traded in Peter Moore and Kelvin Templeton. I was meant to go to Melbourne Having Cloke at the club at that time might have helped speed up the improvement from a basket case in the early 80s to a finalist at the end of that decade but I suspect it wouldn’t have done much for the ethos of the club at the time. Another thing about the Clokes is that early in the interview, he talks about how he and his brother Peter came from Hughesdale in Richmond’s local zone but I believe that Peter actually played in a few intraclub practice games with Melbourne before he started at the Tigers.
  10. I’ll go for some Sams. Sam Murray seems very committed to atoning for his past and to getting himself fit for the fray. I wasn’t initially keen on him but he’s saying and doing the right things. Sam Gray would fit a need as a goal kicking smallish forward if he decides to leave Port (or they delist him). If we can find a tall (7 foot) agile American basketballer (from the land of Uncle Sam) who could be taught to play our game a la Mason Cox, then perhaps as a Category B.
  11. According to this article - How many picks will your club use in the 2019 draft? - “AFL.com.au has found there is likely to be a minimum of 62 picks and a maximum of 74 picks in the national draft.” That means that by the time the draft comes around, pick 97 will not really exist and our last pick will be in the early 70s if in fact we use it at all in the draft. We could use the selection as a rookie upgrade if the club decides to go down that path. Therefore, I wouldn’t concern myself with #97 at this stage.
  12. The link should work now.
  13. Sounds like good reason not to split pick 3 - THE DANDENONG STINGRAYS YOUNG GUN WHO IS A "BULLETPROOF" DRAFT CHOICE

There’s no question that Richmond took a risk with Sydney Stack and that it has paid off to date. I think it worked because the Tigers put in a lot of research and due diligence and then, in conjunction with Stack and his supporters, put in additional effort to make it so. A lot of follow through is needed to reduce risk. If we decide to go in that direction, that’s what’s needed irrespective of the price being asked by the player or his manager.

When you’re looking at players of the ilk of Bennell, Martin and Murray there’s always going to be some risk and I’m not sure whether any of them necessarily entail taking cheap risks. I would be very surprised if a Goodwin team took a risk with any one of the above three but if it did, a reformed Murray might be the one.
  16. Such is the career of an AFL footballer. They had their opportunities and they now wait to see if they get a second chance. The other aspect of the delistings is what insights they provide in terms of what the direction it will take in the coming weeks. The club has five vacancies but only two picks of any substance - 3 & 8. Will it split either or both of those selections? Will it fill the remaining numbers with delisted free agents, a pre season draft selection or upgrade a rookie or two?
  17. In his expanded Phantom Draft, Knightmare predicts Melbourne will take Hayden Young with pick 3 (not splitting the pick or nominating Tom Green) and Brodie Kemp with its next pick. Expanded AFL Phantom Draft: Risers, sliders and new names
  18. Love it. I think that’s what makes pick 97 all the more alluring.
  19. I don’t think that’s right. Here’s an article from the NTAFL site which identifies Andy Moniz-Wakefield who plays for Darwin's Nightcliff club as being a "Melbourne - Darwin Region Multicultural Selection" and two other NT players Tyrell Martin and Ariki Lowe as AFL Next Generation Academy players. UNDER 16 THUNDER BEGIN NATIONAL CAMPAIGN This suggests that the club has put work into young talented players in its (now former) Academy zone. If the AFL has awarded this area to Gold Coast, it is reasonable to ask what happens to the players who were already part of our Academy and what compensation is Melbourne going to receive for the loss of this zone which has produced several AFL champions - the Riolis, Michael Long etc.?
  20. Believe Keays might end up at Gold Coast.
  21. There’s always a flight risk with recruits from SA and WA but ultimately, you have to back yourself and your system in to keep good interstaters happy and invested in you.
  22. Patrick Cripps is a WA boy, now captain of Carlton. No problem there.
  23. Why?
