Time to go Goody?
Pressure to perform will always be there. It's part of the job.

Forward line questions
I seriously can't work out what we're trying to do with our forwardline. They all seem to hover around in their starting positions rather than creating any actual space or movement. We have shown a desire to take the corridor more but it's all in vain as we get to our front half the half forwards are all flat-footed and too close to the midfielders and so we just boot it to the same spot that's easy to defend. You watch other sides and they'll have some of their forward push up closer to the contest, a couple sit deep and then hold a shape that will allow them to lead into space or at least compete in a one on one. Our forwards just seem to hold their position then when the ball comes in they all try and jump for the same ball and run into each other as a result. It shouldn't be as hard as we make it look.

It makes me wonder if potential CEOs don't want to be left carrying the can for Caufield not getting up.

Time to go Goody?
The fact that we can only win if we dominate clearances and contested ball and all our best players are on fire is absolutely a coaching issue. It shows that we're winning off star factor rather than structure.

PREGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
The calls to drop Fritsch amuse me. Like it's going to make any difference if we're kicking high up-and-unders to the top of Fullarton's head instead of Fritsch. Fritsch is a player that thrives on being isolated deep and sharking the ball off a spoil in space. Our appalling forward structure and entries absolutely kill him.

Media Madness
This is pretty much the reaction I've seen from the majority of people in the media? Goodwin was well intentioned but made an error putting the spotlight on Gawn's personal issues.

The AFL are treating us with contempt
Our membership steadily increased over the 2010s when we were horrible. I think 2013 was the only year it went backwards. Personally think that the style of football we play is just not something that gets people on board unless we're winning. Club needs to offer supporters hope and excitement again.

Maybe it's not the line coaches who are the issue when we have all the exact same issues that we did in years gone by with different coaches.

Tim Lamb
The Viney contract really was completely unnecessary, he still had another year to go.

That's ruck craft big boy.

Time to go Goody?
I'm sure his intentions were to protect Gawn from scrutiny but It's really dumb to even raise it. Just sounds like he's turning a very personal issue into an excuse. It's also disrespectful to North and Xerri.

Imagine the poor media team having to send the email letting him know his video is due.

There is no way Goodwin isn't astutely aware of the media spotlight. Unfortunately he really is just a terrible public speaker and always has been. Whenever the cameras are on him you can see how much he struggles with it. He either says nothing of value and just repeats a bunch of cliches or he says something completely innappropriate. You watch other coaches front the media and you can see it comes a lot more naturally to them and they just seem way more at ease. Even when guys like Chris Scott puts his foot in his mouth he only ever makes himself look like a fool. It's really inexcusable for Goodwin to put the spotlight on his captain like that.

Time to go Goody?
Goodwin bringing up Gawn's personal issues as an excuse for his performance was pretty ordinary. Maybe he thought it would protect Max from criticism this week but now there's a big spotlight on something private that wouldn't have been there had Goodwin said nothing.

New coach prospects
Slow precision kicking is one of the most difficult ways to move the ball. You just give the opposition time to set up their zones and every kick is an opportunity for a turnover which is why very few teams do it. There's so many ways we could have fixed our ball movement but really, transition footy and speed on the ball is in vogue for a reason.

New coach prospects
I think it's unlikely that his relationship with the players has deteriorated. I've seen nothing to suggest that is the case. The thing is it doesn't really matter if the players love him. His job is results driven and if he can't get the players to perform and can't resolve the issues with the gameplan then he will have to go.

Time to go Goody?
Yeah well there's no point going through the corridor if you're just going to bomb it to a contest in the goal square, might as well just hug the boundary. It's high risk play for no reward.
-
Time to go Goody?
We only started taking it through the corridor once North got on top and we didn't get much out of it because we still just bombed the ball in deep to the same spot when we should be being for more unpredictable from that position. I've never seen a team with a more baffling forward set up than us.

Nah don't believe that at all. Collingwood are ancient and Macrae totally transformed them when he came in. You don't need to be a team filled with perfect kicks to play attacking football it's more about how you set up your players. If you bring your forwards up higher and focus on creating turnovers then you have a paddock between your press and your goals. Heaps of space for forwards to run into and all you need to ask of your mids is to kick it to their advantage. You can also cheat forward in the midfield and have your players move the ball aggressively by hand. Loads of stuff you can do. I don't think we get the best out of our players with our game style.
-
Time to go Goody?
It's both. The mids are instructed to pump it as deep as possible and the forwards are instructed to present in front of the goal square. We don't trust our mids to hit a lead and we don't trust our forwards to win one on ones. Personally think it's a cowardly way to play.
