  1. I must be the only one who thinks Jetta is actually reasonably lucky. Instinct, if it even was that, isn't a defence. As I said in the other thread, if it were a umpire coming in to calm the situation and Jetta connected with a jaw we wouldn't see Nev for the rest of the year. He knew it wasn't a umpire or a fellow Dee and swung a wild elbow in a relatively unthreatening situation when he could have defended himself in a much less careless and aggressive manner. Intentional/Low impact - 2 down to 1.
  2. How could you make predictions for a lotto? I agree with your assessments re. Vince and Jetta and feel reasonably confident in that because the MRP has been far far better this year in my opinion. They don't seem to be getting much cred for that. For those believing themselves into Jetta getting off, I think you may be getting half sucked in by the commentators a la Rance from the other side of the fence. You can't go swinging wild elbows no matter the circumstances. Imagine it was an umpire rushing in to calm the situation and he connected with a jaw? Bad look for the game - will be dealt with as such.
  3. This. Until it changes we need to coach our players how to do the same rather than complain about it. Same teams, same tactics, every year.
  4. I didn't see the game yesterday so can't use specific examples. But I think the umps mentally distinguish the prior opportunities further and it leads to inconsistencies. Get caught unawares of take evasive action more than once in a pack and you are pretty much given NO time to dispose correctly. Attempt to force your way in a straight line through a pack and no prior is determined and it doesn't seem to matter how long it takes to spill out, if or how it does, or how much effort is genuinely made. This last interpretation encourages the head-down burrowing.
  5. Slight edit where fans sometimes get it wrong.
  6. This is part of the parcel. If we're leaking goals out the back it probably means we've got our aggressive forward defence going.
  7. I understand as much. But the indication is a lot weight is suddenly being put on the Bulldogs end just before the match for reasons that aren't immediately clear.
  8. After coming in the last couple of days, it seems Melbourne are rapidly sliding back out in the pre-game odds. Late change? Perhaps someone knows something about a spearhead forward or midfield general not coming up? MFCSS paranoia setting in.
  9. Indeed, playing Frost up front may have been part of his intended development as a KPD.
  10. Cheers everyone. I'm in the youngish brigade also and strangely never knew much about RDB until prompted by this thread to get on a do a little research. It was if I just accepted his legend status and uncontroversial playing record as all I really needed to know. Anyways, love the extremely direct lineage of some of our club champions. Smith mentoring Barassi as if family and Barass bringing us Stynes.
  11. In my mind, Jack is the best player we've had in a Melbourne jumper in a very long time. If anything, he's still somewhat underrated because his career with us has been almost a given and his personal trajectory steady and predictable. There was something so Brownlow about him from the moment he arrived (the biggest issue now is he'll be competing with Oliver). If he had done so with a different name through proper draft channels or a trade we wouldn't stop talking him up. He's already the driving force of this club - just watch him leading from the front every time the game is on the line or we need a lift - digging in deeper for the crucial clearances. I'm certain we got him for an absolute bargain - his loyalty keeping his price down without being tested on the open market.
  12. Are these stats correct? 25.3 goals between them (Weed with a clean sheet on 15 goals straight)?
  13. I have a faint recollection they had to do the same with Viney? Anyone remember anything like that?
  14. Gil McLachlan, Mark Evans, Sheehan. Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Frawley, Jakovich, Ling, Matthew Richardson, and Tredrea. Is still the make-up of the Rising Star panel? Clayton is a footballer. If the panelists take their role seriously and review the footage come season's end (where the 1%ers and the like become more evident) then this kid is a very strong chance to take home the trophy.
  15. Tenuous segue/not sure where else to put this . . . As mentioned in another thread, I took a historical tour of the Norwood Football Club during the week. One amusing anecdote to emerge concerned an interstate match between the Redlegs and a very fancied Carlton outfit in the mid-70s. The Legs' coach at the time had all their forwards switch jumpers right before the game and line up together at CHF - with the assumption that their opposition had only studied the numbers rather than footage. Norwood scored a 10-goal jump on the Blues by half-time
  16. Matt Jones has exceeded Jong in comparative possession counts across those NABs. Wonder if the Bullies fans are relieved he's out?
  17. With the concern about covering Stringer people are naturally afraid of a second-stringer coming into their team.* *sorry
  18. He's in Perth.
  19. He's clearly just discovered Hogan is re-signing. Time to merge the threads.
  20. *Aposiopesis is the rhetorical device. Marked by an ellipsis. If you're using an ellipsis for your 'job' be sure to enter spaces between the ellipsis points.
  21. I think you should reconsider your word-choice C&B. Putrid seems a little overstated.
  22. I suspect it's a transcription issue and Kent is praising the club's approach. Try adding an ellipsis. I’m out of contract so . . . there’s no pressure on me to perform or anything like that, but it’s in the back of my head and you think about your contract"
  23. Self-quote alert. I went along for a fantastic historical tour of the Norwood Football Club today (hosted by Roger Woodcock). One of the things to emerge was Nathan Basset's drive and determination as a proud club-man and his efforts to connect the players with the club's strong history (not in a Schwab way), by lining the rooms with portraits of club champions etc. Have no idea how he's found himself in enemy territory over at Alberton.
  24. So now that we've reached a conclusion on Emma's word-choice and the true function of quotation marks can we turn our attention to deciphering the meaning of the thread title?
