Remarkable. By all reports he had a good preseason, but when he went down I had a sinking feeling it was curtains for JKH in the red & blue. Extended recovery and then regaining fitness before trying to force his way back into a loaded team. Available as early as next round is an excellent result. I'm still not sure he'll make it but good luck to the young man.

JKH?

You can excuse a player for being played out of position, but that doesn't mean he should continue to hold his spot in front of players for that position. Kent feels a better option at half-forward right now. The onus is on Angus to improve his versatility or he can wait for and force his midfield opportunity via Casey.

And so clever Clarry ran boundary-line to take the tackle. Shouldn't have been holding the ball.

What happened to Nathan Jones? I don't recall a Demons player improving their kicking so much in one off-season as to turn it into a genuine weapon. I don't think it's the extra protection around the ball - he just seems to be really backing himself in. Meanwhile, Jordan Lewis . . .

I've noticed that Garlett is hitting the drop with some serious speed this season. A handful of times last week and this he was just a fraction off from collecting the ball in the clear. Maybe what you consider skipping over the ball is just the pace he's running the packs with no chance to pull up - most likely as conditioned and instructed. Would like to see some footage.

We weren't horrible. Overused it and so the turnovers will follow. But the difference in the last; back to fearless footy.
-
And the year before that.
-
Garlett kicked 3 goals. Probably don't need to mention that.
-
242 possessions to half-time. Sums it up perfectly.

The interesting aspect will be the likely range of our first-round pick - possibly around the 10-14 bracket. Unfamiliar territory and a genuine test of Taylor's abilities.
-
I think it was mentioned at the time of recruitment. Edit: Jason Taylor says: "He's played mainly as a forward for Footscray VFL, but he played midfield when he was at St Bernard's and was best on ground in their premiership win in 2015. He's got good power, he's a good size. We're not sure which area of the ground he'll develop but he's got a flexibility."

Am I the only one who just googled 'Chris Maynard'?

Cast your mind back to Round 2, 2016: Collingwood vs Richmond.

It's more than that. And I don't want to upset the psychologically superstitious by talking out of school, but we do need to keep an eye toward our percentage this year. It's likely to be an incredibly tight season at the top - just a quick skip ahead and it's possible there could be as many as six teams on 5-1 - and we really did ease up last week in the final quarter.

I went to the same primary school as Erin, about four years her senior, and have very distinct memories of her at around the age of seven kicking the footy with the boys at lunch-time. Whenever there has been a discussion of women's footy in the past, my mind would always cast back to those times. She's the Jack Viney of the AFLW - bred to play the game - and had left a lasting impression before ever having been granted the opportunity to take the field on the big stage. Congratulations. A deserving winner.

Melon22. Did Pedo play?
-
In fairness to Picket, we'll never know if that was the right or wrong call.
-
Simon's Tsunami? A bewildered opposition watches on as half of our team recedes deep into defence. And then bam! - a huge wave of players barrelling toward them.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
Skuit replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
You don't think Johnstone will come on? -
I may have made it up. But I thought it came directly from Oscar at some stage?
-
We've also been told over the preseason that Omac and Frost were competing for the one spot. Frost is injured.

Great photo. The other pairings are uncanny, but I hope we don't get challenged on Stretch's paternity based on that snap. -
So I've convinced myself that Weideman should go down back and take Smith's spot (Saty, can you mention it to Goody for me?). He's not been quite clunking them up front but he's got the height, athleticism, and timing to meet the ball at it's highest point and should be able to effect a decent spoil. And he's a neat enough kick. It's basically rookie for rookie. And it may result in Weiderman vs. Weitering in Bizarro-World. Pedo can come into the forward line, or give Hullet a run as the third tall. Tyson/Bugg/Harmes in for Vince depending on fitness.

We did. Our midfield was firing just fine. No need to bring in an underdone Brayshaw.
