  1. leaves with a premiership medalian... better than can be said for some champions like Robert Harvey
  2. essendon have notoriously had trouble with soft tissue injuries last 3 years. this year they had most injuries of any other team. if ur gonna poach from a team essendon would be the last team i could think of. wtf
  3. I spoke to a mate who knows his stuff.... has been watching all the national championships (as i do also) as well as lots of under 18 action. And he reckons that Watts looks like an absolute farkin superstar. Moves so well, evasive like a midfielder, clean strong mark, kicks goals. We were discussing the comparison between Gumbleton and Hansen last year at the same stage of development, and he reckons that Watts is definitely ahead of both of them. Now consider that he is 17, in year 11, 194cm tall and a CHF/FF which is what we are dying out for. It's not rocket science... we should take him. The only reason we will take NikNat or Rich is if we rate them waaaayyyy ahead of Watts (which i highly doubt.)
  4. I think each photo is of 2 players morphed together. From top left: Morton/Rivers… Bate/Neitz… Pettard/???.... White/??? Miller/Whelan….???????........ McNamara/Sylvia,… Carrol/Holland Cheney/Wonaeamirri…Yze/Maric….Dunn/????.... Green/Bruce lol at bottom left
  5. He didn't say he would only play school footy next year... he just said he'd be going to school (year 12) next year in Melbourne. there are many players who do this during there first season, including our own Addam Maric. Xavier Ellis and Luke Ball are 2 other top 3 picks who played some school footy and a couple of seniour games in their first year despite being top 3 picks. I would take Watts because: - Rich, Naitanui and Watts are the 3 standouts. it is arguable who is better - from what i've seen of Watts he looks a superstar in the making. its hard to believe he's a full year younger than everybody else - we need a key forward sooooo badly. imagine if he's the next reiwold. regardless, i will trust our recruiters. Because they, unlike me, have been watching these guyz week in week out for 4 years (not just a youtube highlights package)
  6. from the youtube footage and national championship games i watched, Watts look awesome. great evasive skills so he creates space when he gets the ball. very quick, which will help on the lead and in general play also. very very strong mark, also contested. this is what a kpp needs. he is only 17 yrs old and will only get better and better. Watts pros: - tall, quick, strong mark, smart player, kicks goals... full package - we need a key forward so badly Cons--- none obvious, but is question mark whether he is genuinely the best propect in the draft, or perhaps the 3rd,4th or 5th best... Rich pros: - of the top midfielders taken in previous drafts, including Marc Murphy, Gibbs, Ellis and Cotchin, Rich is equal to them if not rated even higher! - he has awesome kicking skills, which is what we lack in a big way. - our current midfield (Mclean,Jones,Moloney,Valenti,Grimes,Buckley) are all promising, but none have the ability to be a genuine number 1 midfielder star. this guy could be. all the rest of our midfielders would become even better being the 2nd 3rd or 4th best midfielders at our club - he is probably the best prospect in the draft Cons------ he is not from melbourne, and prima facie he is not what we most require atm. Naitanui pros: - is tall, agile, quick and athletic. he is also VERY aggresive, a great tackler, and hunts the football. he is NOT simply an athlete palying football. his 1%ers are rediculously awesome - question mark whether he will improve his football smarts...which i find hard to believe... surely an 18yr old kid can only improve from the support of afl coaches and an afl environment. - even if he doesn't improve his smarts, he will be a top5 in the afl at ruck contests and taps to advantage, he will be the number 1 clearence player in the afl, and the number 1 at 1%ers in the afl... - if we don't take him, we MIGHT look back in 4 years time and wonder why the fark we didn't choose him (ala Franklin) - his potential is biggest of any play ever drafted Cons--- will he improve his footy smarts
  7. For MFC to finish 15th, we'd have to beat the tiggies by 10 goals and WCE lose by 12 goals... not gonna happen. Richmond playing for a possible finals spot. they beat hawks.... they are a better them than us
  8. Carrol has a year left of contract... Meesan signed a 3 yr deal a start of the year... they both aren't going newhere.... unfortunately
  9. Kyle Cheney - James Frawley - Jack Grimes - Addam Maric - Ricky Petterd - Shane Valenti - These players bode well for our future! Grimes and Valenti will strengthen our midfield next year... Maric and Pettard will be quality flankers for a long time. But best of all in the young defence we are building! Talls- Warnock- 192cm Martin- 198cm Rivers- 192cm In between (can take small or tall) Garland- 191cm Frawley- 193cm Half backs: C.Johnson Bell Cheney All under 24 years old---- perhaps even Pettard, Grimes and Bartram can play there. All under 24 years old----
  10. You may be right about Green or Bruce... but i have a strange feeling opposition clubs rate both players, particularly bruce. i wouldn't be overly surprised if a later first/early 2nd round pick was offered... nonethless if we weren't offered anything in the first 25 picks for them then i wouldn't trade. RE: White trade... good idea. to get it done however it would require 2-3 clubs to be interested, not only 1 club. but would be clever trade. You are probably right regarding the rookies, but i like Valenti a lot. deserves a place on the list i reckon
  11. Jamar is contracted for next year... besides which he is a required play, even as a back-up ruckman. With white gone, our only rucks next year are Jamar and PJ (can't really count Meesan) and possibly Warnock. OUT: 7 players Neitz Yze Holland White Bode- delisted Weetra- delisted Bruce or Green traded for pick 10-20. nb: i think Carrol is contract next year so can't be delisted... i'd be looking to turn over 1 more player (8 players overall), not sure who it would be??? IN: 9 players pick 1 pick 17 pick 19 pick 15 (acquired from trading Bruce or Green) pick 35 pick 51 Valenti- rookie upgrade Wonaeamirri- rookie upgrade Matthew Warnock (pick 1 PSD) If we only turn over 8 players, then possibly keep one of the 2 rookie-boys on the rookie list for next season.
  12. I agree... you should always be cautious with really good fringe players from awesome sides. Tim Callan was last years Brent Prismall.... Callan isn't too bad a player, but at the demons he would struggle big time. Prismall would be a good get in the PSD or maybe pick 35. i would not give up pick 19 for him
  13. I'm not sure about Boyle. If we traded for Warnock, then i wouldn't be against getting Boyle in PSD. Purely because he has talent, is pretty young and we are so desperate for KPP. Watts, at 17, cannot be expected to make an impact in first 2 years. So he could be good for a couple of years. who knows, with more responsibility he may become a really good player. but i would not trade for him. no way
  14. this is correct. Draft age will be increased from 17yrs 8months old on draft day, to 18 yrs old. So- the draft age is increased by 4 months. I do not believe this is mean a 60% strength draft... probably more like 80% strength draft. And if you look over the past 10 years of top 10 picks, in every year there are ussually, on average, only about 3 of those picks who were 17 when drafted. Therefore, if we do qualify for a PP next year and get pick 1 and 2, it will be pretty much as strong as any other pick 1 and 2 in any other draft. Besides which, the certain number 1 pick next year- Butcher- will be 18 by draft day neways.
  15. yes, but you haven't shown how you would get those 2 players to our club. It's just like me saying.... add Kerr and Didak to our team and look how awesome it is. you can only add quality players through trade weak if you are willing to give up quality in return. What are you giving up for J.Brown that could realistically get him over the line to our club.
  16. sounds good. i like the sounds of having a connection to a community. if we're doing all the auskick clinics and stuff with the youngsters out there, surely some of them will be influenced to become young demon supporters... Also we'll finnally have one quality ground to train on instead of moving from ground to ground all summer. It will be much less distracting and will benefit our pre-season greatly. Any word on whether we are going to affiliation with Casey Scorpians?
  17. I would actually be upset if we went for cousins. totally against wat we are working towards atm. J.Brown isn't coming to Melbourne, and if he was, we'd have to sacrifise pick 1 plus lots more. that's why its a silly suggestion.
  18. gOlly Silly team... completely unrealistic... and if we really do want a premiership then this is not the direction we should take. - J.Brown is in the top 5 players in the competition and the most inspiring leader. it would require pick 1 plus more to get him... Besides which Bailey indicated he wanted to rebuild from under 22yrs old... plus Jbrown publicly said he didn't want to play for melbourne.. i dont play him. - B.Cousins is completely the wrong fit for melbourne. too old, we wont be recruiting anyone over 24 fullstop. More realistic, but equally as exciting for is: 2009 INS: R.Warnock--- quality young ruck J.Watts---- quality young KP forward pick 17 and pick 19---- 2 quality fast, skillful midfielders. Plus---- J.Grimes is basically a new recruit. slipped to pick 14 last year bc of injury. we have worked him thru his injuries and now fully fit. will prove to be a gem. A.Maric completed year 12 this year so effectively next year will be the first season he has proper go at it Morton needs a pre-season to work on his body so will be so exciting next year Moloney, Rivers, McLean, Robbo missing for huge chunks of this year and all are in our best 18 players. That is how we will turn things around... not silly suggestions like getting J.Brown and B.Cousins. Whelan, Warnock, Garland Wheatley, Rivers, C.Johnson Green, Moloney, Morton Davey, Bate, Robertson Sylvia, Miller, Wonaeamirri Warnock, Mclean, Jones Int: Bruce, Martin, P.Johnson, Pettard, Buckley, Bell, McDonald Emerg: Valenti, Frawley, Newton, Bartram Developing but could be in our best 18 by years end:::: Grimes (pick 14 2007), Maric (pick 21 2007), Cheney (pick 52 2007), J.Watts (pick 1 2008), pick 17 2008 and pick 19 2008. I would also look to trade either Bruce or Green (preferably Bruce) for a first round pick (but NO LESSS). they are the only players on our list who have currency and they are both 28.
  19. will anyone remember this game in 4 weeks... a small crowd 16th playing 14th in Adelaide... simple answer= no. What i will remember is this----- Pick 1, 17, 19 and 35 in the National draft Pick 1 in the PSD No doubt R.Warnock is worth around pick 10 in his true value. Proof---- Cam Wood= pick 14, Jolly= pick 14. Both were young promising back up rucks like Warnock. So essentially... We will have 4 top 20 picks next year. Pick 1- Watts--- an absolute certainly to become a super key forward pick 17 and 19- 2 quick and skilled midfielders... apparently pick 19 in this draft is like pick 12 in previous drafts... pick 35- best available pick 1 PSD- R.Warnock--- sets up our ruck for the next 8 years with Warnock and PJ, with Jamar and Spenser in reserve. I wouldn't be completely against trading for Warnock (under valued)--- perhaps pick 35 + White could get it over the line??? That's better than nothing for freo i reckon.... And then we could use our PSD for the best available uncontracted player... who knows we could get lucky and nab ourselves a prismall, mundy, thorp or Dowler....?
  20. No... 26 years old... not a particularly awesome player... a poor mans version on Davey. extremely bad egg.... has lots of trouble with the police including stalking his x... if he was 20 years old would be a different story perhaps, but no.
  21. And also, i just read this exact post on Bigfooty and it was posted by a Carlton poster. If you are going to plagarise posts please make it known, especially when you are plagarising from a Carlton supporter and ESPECIALLY if you are plagarising from Bigfooty--- bigfooty attracted possibly the biggest bunch of pimple-popping dipsticks you could ever imagine (maybe that's why i find it so funny and entertaining).... Poor effort by you P.s. i gave you the benefit of the doubt that you're not a Carlton supporter who's posting on demonland. The tanking talk is rubbish as explained in my post above
  22. While this is all true, when will people get over it. Whoever wants to know the truth......... we should have won 8-9 games last season (due to leading in the final minutes of a number of games) and we did not deserve the Priority pick... For us the get the priority pick last year would be equivalent to Fremantle getting it this year. This year fremantle will probably finish the year with 5 wins... just missing out on a PP. If any freo supporter lamented winning 5, instead of 4 wins, i'd tell them to get over it because they should have won 9 games. the only difference is that we won our 5th game in round 22 while they won their 5th game in round 19.
  23. Sylvia needs to party less... ive heard some disturbing stories about wat he gets up to wen he goes out, and he does it too often. that's fine if he wants to be an ok player, but champions don't do those stupid things.... Sylvia has talent to be a star... he has shown great signs this year... but if he doesn't put it together next year he's gawn. atm we should keep him. no way trade. because his trade value is low, while his real worth is potentially HUGE
  24. Its easy to get disillusioned after a thrashing... but... if you think about it this way---- - we had 8 of our best 18 our injured (Davey, Mclean, Rivers, Garland, Moloney, Robertson, Miller, Bell) - we are in a massive development stage and most of our team has less than 50 games and is under 23 yrs of age - Geelong are FAR AWAY the best team in the afl. their entire team in physically mature and in their prime!!! Did any expect anything but a thrashing? honestly? how could we compete? 3) as far as draft picks are concerned, beating carlton cost us pick 18 last season and pick 2 this season. People should get over this, because the truth is that we lost about 4 games after leading in the last 2 minutes and we actually should have won about 8-9 games last year.
  25. if we become an extinct club it will NOT be because of an occasional horrid onfield performance... it will be 1000% pure and simple because we become financially bankrupt or financially untenable. The blues survived 6 years of week-in week-out massive demolishens. they survived because they could withstand it financially. with the draft system, teams who are weak on-field will be helped anyways via the draft. so... yes you will see the melbourne demons next year
