  1. I'd say melbourne are 95% likely to win the spoon. why you ask? Well.... We have lost our only 2 goal kickers. we are in a phase where all our players are either past their best or WELLL before their best (Morton,Jones,Wona etc). And in general we just have no many holes in our team that we are unlikely to be able to beat any teams for the rest of the year. just look at how we were dismantled by Stkilda last week- who are pathetic. Also.... Essendon- Will win a few games in the next few weeks. play all the bottom sides on the run home, and with Lucas and Llyd in the forward line, Fletcher, Michael in the backline and McVeigh in the middle, they simply have too many STAR players to not get some wins. WestCoast- should have beaten sydney. they have a few games in perth and they also play essendon next week, so could notch another win there. They aren't as bad as us. Freo- Purely and simply they aren't that bad. they are losing sure, but when ur so close to winning each game its safe to assume they pull it together with a couple of wins soon. they have alot of talent in their team. if they come last it will be tanking pure n simple. So..... the point is..... it's very reasonable to look forward to the number 1 pick. and i hope we use it on Naitanui, because if you guyz hadn't noticed, our number 1 ruckman is 32 years old in his second last afl season and we have no potential number 1 ruck to replace him. (Nb:PJ will always be a number2 ruck who can play forward, back and wing).
  2. McLoed is NOT overrated. One of the most creative smooth mover i have witnessed. Is a wonderfully unique player who stands out against the rest
  3. i doubt Prismall will releave much salary cap pressure... they are more likely to trade a guy like Rooke or something. Someone who will demand value on the trade table and is being paid well, yet who isn't a core player. If we get someone like Warnock or Prismall in the PSD then that would be great, because it fixes a whole in our side virtually for free. we can only hope
  4. Maybe try to lure Prismall through the PSD promising him 22 senior games and good game time?
  5. but what a win it was!
  6. Kane Tenace is just about the 35th best player at geelong. maybe pick him up pick 110 in the draft, but i wouldn't waste anything else on him
  7. It was only a matter of time before Carrol was pushed out by better and younger players... but i do like Garland--- Our future key defenders look quite promising: Frawley and Martin would potentially take the mammoth forwards Rivers and Warnock take the big forwards Garland can take the fast, agile forwards who rely on marks on the lead The good thing about having 5 young and flexible key defenders is that we have cover. I don't think all 5 of these players will turn out to be awesome key defenders for the next 8 years, but if 3 of them continue their improvement then we are set. If Rivers, Warnock and Frawley improve then garland could perhaps even be used up forward
  8. get over it. we beat the dogs by 12 goals. we demolished them. so obviously we couldn't have lost that game. If you're going to ask questions, why dont you ask you we beat Carlton twice in the last 9 rounds and why we played players like Travis Johnstone roaming free in on the flanks (who racked up over 40 possies) when we couldv pretended they were injured or played them out of position. And another reason to get over the bulldogs victory---- we lost about 4 unloseable games last year when we were ahead with about 3 minutes to go in the match.... we probably could'v easily won 8-9 games last year, and the fact we only won 5 was astounding in itself
  9. Disgraceful post- shame on you. Frawley is in his second afl season. Most young KPPs take atleast 3-4 years to start to make any impact. Sure, Frawley hasn't set the world on fire, but he's getting games under his belt and has been far from woeful. he has a frame to get bigger, has good height (194cm), has good speed and is willing to take the game on. His disposal is effective, though quite ungainly. He can also take a grab. So im sure he will improve markedly over the next 12-18 months and i predict he will be our number 1 full back in 2 years. There's a reason why drafters believed he was the next Darren Glass pre-draft. the kid has talent
  10. Honestly cannot believe people actually truely and honestly believe we won't be a premiership chance for another 7 years! do u realize how long 7 years is? and my point is still valid even though they finished 12th instead of 13th. things change very quickly in football and history proves that. It honestly baffles the mind.... in 7 yrs we'll have an entirely different list that probably will rely on drafting well for the next few years. What if we don't draft well...does that mean it's gonne take another 7 years. and if another top 5 draft pick fails during that time, does that mean it's gonna be 21 years before we can truely go for a flag... Football does NOT work like that. The successful clubs have been able to win a premiership every 10 or so years consistently. look at carlton and essendon. PortAdelaide completely rejigged their list and were back in contention only 2-3 yrs after having dropped out of the 8. Same as geelong. The key to success if having a good culture round the club, with all the players dedicated to success. It's about having all your players peaking at once, and having your best players play most weeks. The way you guyz speak it's gonna take another 44 years before we win a premiership and YES, I do think we could be a chance for top 4 in 3 years. our list will be completely different by then and with a bit of luck with drafting, and our guyz like Davey,Rivers,Mclean,Jones,Bate,Green and co will be our leaders. once you get top 4 anything is possible.
  11. Most of you guyz have no idea. never read such rubbish before in my life. Trading Davey who's 24 because in 7 yrs he might not be contributing? are you all mad? Rivers and Davey are 2 of the most marketable and skillful players at our club. And for all you knobjockeys who say we won't be vying for a flag for another 7 years.... Look at Geelong in 2004 they were bottom 4. They were considered a plodder midfield. Ling, Bartel, Corey--- all one paced midfielders and too slow apparently. Kelly was considered a complete an utter waste and Mooney and Gablett were extremely inconsistent player. S.Johnson was a hothead and Ottens was the worst waste of a trade in history with all his groin problems. Fast track to 2007--- Geelong the unbeatable side. 9 AllAustralians. wins the premiership by 120 points. The point... things change very quickly in football. We already have made a good start in drafting the last 3 years. add another 3-4 highly rated youngsters next year and we'v got something on a rounded lineup. Honestly ppl who think it takes 7 years to build a team have no clue about how footy works. You just need a successful culture, a good coach, and for all the players to click at the same time. you also need ur best players out on the park each week.
  12. Exciting players bring people to games. I honestly went to the Melbourne Hawthorn game partly to see what Wonaeamirri could do even tho i thought we'd get killed. Cult figures are important. besides the fact that we are desperate for a number 1 ruckman to replace White in 1 season...
  13. if Melbourne don't win a premiership in the next 15 years i honestly don't think it will survive. purely based on support. I'm 21 and my parents generation were demon supporters bc they were such a successful club. for that reason i was indoctrinated into becoming a demons supporter. In AusKick there are very few melbourne supporters because people with young kidz grew up in an era where MFC was very unsuccessful. If MFC continues to be horribly unsuccessful, then their will be no new generation of supporters to bring up their kidz loving MFC
  14. This has been the case for a long time, and luckily we have the number 1 conversion rate for supporter to member. But seriously... MFC has been the least successful club over the last 44 years. Not one premiership and for about 20 years we hardly made the finals. Only a couple of grandfinals since 1964 and both of them we were thrashed... So it's hardly surprising that we have the least number of members. Young kidz growing up want to support the best club. I saw a guy with his 2 kidz after the StKilda match and they were in MFC gear from top to bottom- I was chatting to the father for a bit and his sons were speaking about how much Melbourne sucked... I mean honestly what kind of a young kid wants to support a team that has no success. Remedy- win premierships. If melbourne had been as successful as Essendon or Carlton over the past 20 yrs we'd have a lot more supporters
  15. Sure, there is definitely a chance we'd pick up a dud with pick 15... However Bruce is 29 next yr...he has 2 seasons left. plus he isn't even a damaging player anymore. A team looking to bolster their list for a premiership would defininetly be interested....however we are not even looking finals in the next yr or two? So if we got a player like Bate at pick 15 i'd be stoked. Even a player that turns out solid would be better. And who knows... we could pick up an absolute gem
  16. Is Newton even fit?
  17. J.Frawley is a BIG part of our future. not many 19 yr olds key defenders set the house on fire. Warnock wasn't even on an afl list at that age and only now has started to play some good footy. when he bulks and gets some games under his belt he'll be a ripper
  18. our forward line is farrrrkkkkeeedddd. How did we ever get in this position after spending about 6 draft picks on key forwards... it's really pathetic drafting and it makes me wonder why everyone lauded CAC for being a good recruiter. We have only 1 true key forward in Miller and he is strong trier but is average. Bate and Sylvia aren't true KPP (most mobile flankers) and PJ is a ruckman. We don't even have any developing key forwards other than NEwton who looks a spud atm. very depressed
  19. i would accept a first or second round draft pick for him. that would give us 4 top 20 picks...add that to 3 top 20 picks last yr + Bate,Mclean,Sylvia,Bartram,Garland,Wonaeamirii,Jones and Frawley and we might actually start getting some talent into our team
  20. Unfortunately the cleaning up of our dead-wood will take 2 more years (and started last year). The reason for this is that we have lots of players retiring in the next year of 2 and thus must keep a few young duds on our list. Retired: already 4-5 players. White - He may play one more season, which i think he should. However his end will either come this year or next McDonald- see White. Yze- is clearly playing his last season. Our list is at the stage where all old players are gawwnnn unless they are core important player. Yze is not. Holland- see Yze Neitz- obviuosly retired Whelan- Has been consistently injured for the past 4 years. his body has failed him and he is now close to 30 yrs old. love him so v unfortunate. Delisted: 4 players Isaac Weetra- GAWN! is hopeless and was a speculative pick to start with. Carrol- Has been a loyal servant but has now been surpassed by more talented and younger KPP (Garland,Rivers,Frawley,Warnock,Martin...) Bode- GAWN- is hopeless and was only a rookie elevation so watevs. C.Johnson- The guy might have something but clearly no MFC coach has ever rated him as he continues to rot at sandy No list can really handle more than 9 changes in 1 season...so players like Jamar (who somehow got a 2yr deal at the start of the yr), Wheatley and Meesan get a reprieve for 1 more season. I wholeheartedly agree to any trade for a first or second round pick for ANY of our players over the age of 24. This includes, Bruce, Green or whoever. lets hope this years draft is the best ever!
  21. plenty of non-classy players have won premierships... but agreed that he would make up the 16th-22nd best player in a premiership team, rather than an important top 10 player for the club. i would like to see him played as a permanent tagger. every club needs one and they play an important role. McDonald and Bruce have played these roles for too long...
  22. we seriously have sooo many holes in our team. We need a number 1 ruck to replace white. We need a key defender We need a key forward we need a tight checking defender we need a running defender we need 2 jet midfielders.... basically if we are going to get back to the top 8, we need all our draft picks to be good ones. Hopefully Grimes, Maric, Cheney, Morton, Martin and the 4 draft picks next yr can start filling those holes
  23. our forward line is farrrkkkeedd. Miller presents well at CHF and Wonaeamirri and Davey are good small forwards... However we have noone to kick the goals... PJ is probably our best option...Ben Holland is 31 and on his last legs, Yze the same. We don't have anyone even at sandy who can fill the void??? Newton? Maybe try to develop Dunn into a full forward?
  24. we're getting killed. do we need special inspiration to actually try
  25. I keep hearing we are set to lose $1m this year... Does that mean that we are set to break even due to the $1m assistance from the afl, or does that mean we are going to lose $2m this yr? Either way, it's really troubling because next year we only receive 250k. Our membership is adequate-28,000 We are building a new home ready for 2010. We now have a new permanent training base in Casey fields. We are bringing in some impressive people into the club- stynes, connoley etc... Our list is struggling atm but we have some impressive youngsters which will be complemented by top draft picks this yr... Basically my point is that our financial position should be the number 1 issue. if we were making profits each year i guerentee noone would be on our backs. Why is it that we have the only pokies venue in the entire world that doesn't make money? Why do we seem to be worse off financially to last yr when this yr we have bigger crowds and less injury player payments? this whole situation really boths me... why are we so bad at making money?
