  1. I'd rather keep jones than get Jesse white. don't really rate him, gets dropped a lot bc he just isn't a very good footballer
  2. Really really liked Whiteboard Wednesday week 24 with Bails. Going through all the most relevant statistics which show our improvement from 2009 to 2010 and our aims for 2011. Really exciting stuff. What did other people think? (to watch, it is up on youtube)
  3. Just on the Bruce rumour. On the hypothetical scenario that Bruce is picked up by the Suns and we receive a 2nd band compensation pick (1st round pick directly after your first rounder, in our case pick 13). Getting a compensation pick opens up some really interesting trade possibilities, since compensation picks CAN be traded to other clubs. Example: we could trade out compensation pick to WetToast. The value of that pick for them is pick 5. Whilst the value of the same pick for us in pick 13! They could even keep that pick and use it in 2 years time, and if they come last, that same pick is now worth pick 2! With the pick holding greater value for other clubs than it does us, it could open some really interesting trade options, WetToast would be willing to offer something potentially awesome for pick 5, whilst for us, we are only really trading pick 13!
  4. You really have to LOL at Voss. Takes on the senior role without even 1 year of coaching experience as an assistant. Thinks he's gods gift to coaching. He has officially [censored] up the lions for years to come. Brisbane: Receive- Fevola (cancer for any club) Cost - pick 12 - Henderson... very promising player - Bradshaw... left as a direct result of Voss' treatment of him during the Fev deal. Is at least the equal of Fevola and is a quality player - Rischitelli.. quality midfielders who also left bc of Voss shafting him during Fev deal - who'll be next... Drummand, Brennan rumoured to being leaving, could be interpreted as an indirect result of the Fev deal
  5. Apparently so. All your questions are answered very clearly by Tim Harrington. Just take a look at the Whiteboard wednesday. He's the guy in charge of list management
  6. Good signing. will lead their midfield with Swallow If GC has 'officially' signed any Melbourne players they would certainly have announced them by now, considering they've had 2 signings announcments. I'm definitely hoping no Melbourne players leave to GC.
  7. At the end of the day, in the 'actuals' of what is paid to players (TPP) each and every year must be under the salary cap. What we are doing is that according to the contracts we have with players for 2010, we would only be paying, say, 90% of the cap. So we 'forward' some of the cash promised to players under contracts for future years and pay them this year. For example of Davey is contracted to receive $500,000 in 2011, we can pay him $250K of that amount in 2010 as a forward payment and this is included in the 2010 TPP. This is good for the players, who get their money earlier and can invest it if they wish, and good for the club, who now is paying 100% of the cap, but now has extra room to move in future years. If you still don't understand the rules and how it works i recommend watching Tim Harrington's Whiteboard Wednesday in week 22 i think. He explains it all very clearly, it is all within the rules, and no salary cap rules are being breached. PS- making 'front loaded' contracts would create exactly the same result, as far as i understand. The only difference I can think of is that this method provides more flexibility for the club. No salary cap rules are being breached as long as each and every year the TPP are under the cap.
  8. Agree 100%. In 2 years go all out for a big fish. Regardless, if a trade opportunity does arise this year we must be willing to be flexible. If a Mundy type came into our laps, we probably couldn't refuse, simply because quality is quality, no matter what position they play.
  9. Pretty spot on. Although its always exciting getting a 'big fish', we are probably 1 or 2 seasons too early for this. We are probably better off making finals once of twice, then see a gap in our list that we need to take us to a premiership and go hard. This is what Collingwood did with Darren Jolly and Luke Ball, and it has been a huge success for them. At this point in time, we are still speculating a lot of what positions are set and who will make it and who won't. In 2 years time the picture will be much clearer
  10. Would prefer Warnock as key position depth than either of those 2. People must consider that Warncok is the next and ONLY other option behind Frawley, Garland, Rivers and MacDonald. We cannot have all 5 in the same team, and as this point Warnock is rated 5th. However things change very quickly, and we will inevitably get injuries to at least 1 of them throughout next season. Behind Warnock, we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel, with Cheney and McNamara the next best options. It would have to be a very good deal for us to give up Warnock, and Hampson (who i rate behind Jacobs) and Walker (who imo is very spuddish) are not enough imo
  11. robb warnock would have been a GREAT get by us. Was that just last summer? Would it have been a choice between Tapscott (pick 18) and Warnock. who would people prefer
  12. I don't understand why everyone wants to trade Jones. He's a required player and the type of player every club needs. In fact, if he played for another club, we'd probably all be suggesting we target him if he was put up for trade. Give him 2 years deal
  13. Would love to see what Bate is capable of with a full pre-season and coming into round 1 with 4 pre-season practice matches. This year he was injured all pre-season and had his first hit out at Casey Fields v WCE a week before round 1. Having no pre-season can make a huge difference
  14. Man if we could get Pav it would absolutely awesome. The guys in the peak of his career, has plenty of years left, is like a 5-time AA. He'd pretty much come in and become our best player. Plus he can play as a big bodied full forward and as a supreme clearence midfielder. I understand the sentiment that we want to keep the group together, and getting Pav would cost heaps. That makes sense. But disregarding what we would lose by getting him, wrt Pav as a player in general, he is a genuine star and if he said he wanted to come to the demons, i think that would be awesome.
  15. Would Mitch Brown be much of an upgrade from Martin or Miller? If we're going to out and get our big strong tall forward, we may as well make it count and go for quality. Getting fringe talls from other clubs won't gain us much, unless we're looking for depth
  16. we should feel happy that adealide's plans are already stuffed up since they only received a pick after the first round. That is clearly not going to be enough to secure Jack, who appears like he will be a top 10 draft pick. That means that to secure Viney, Adelaide will have to trade with GWS this late first round pick + another pick/antoher player. That is a hell of a lot to trade for an unknown 17 y/o. And i'm 100% sure Jack would prefer to come to Melbourne than live in greater west sydney (who in their right mind would want that?)
  17. Based on todays annoucement of the compensation picks, the story becomes a little more clear, should Bruce unfortunately decide to leave. Since compensation is based on salary, and Bruce will be highly paid by demons and offered a high pay packet by GC, he will give good compensation. He will 100% get more than a 4th band selection that was given for Nathan Krakeur. He will, at the very least, get us a 3rd band selection, which this year would be pick 27ish... like Bock from Adelaide. However, if the afl decides to give us a 2nd bank selection, which is a pick directly after our first round pick, that would leave us with pick 12 and 13... a pretty good position
  18. If GC don't nab Ablett or Pav or someone big, there are going to be some pretty crappy senior players running around. better hope they draft well
  19. no way. Ruckman are absolutely golden to any team, its taken us 8 years to develop one, there's only probably 6 decent ruckman in the league and we have one of them, he's onyl 27 years old and at least 4 really good years ahead of him. he's in our 1-5 most important players on our list and if i could rank all the players i'd be willing to trade from 1-40, he's probably be the 35th-40th player
  20. He tired badly in the last few games, as expected from a teenager first year player, but a fine first season and will only get better. Hannebury had a bad patch, so did Martin, as did Rich and Hill. To expect anything different is just being unrealistic.
  21. As he gets better and plays more games, the players will look for him more and more. And as he gets more supply, he'll play better due to more opportunities. This will lead to more confidence to take difficult shots for goal instead of passing them off, making him every better. Its simply the case that he's essentially in his first year and the players don't trust that he'll win a 50-50 contest yet, so why wouldn't you kick it to Green instead. But this will change. We can't forget this is his first real season. Definitely not something to be concerned about in the slightest. Its natural considering his age and inexperience and it will naturally change as he gets bigger, stronger and better
  22. nice analysis, but surely Lynden Dunn is now absolutely core starting 18. He plays a very important role at half forward, often limiting the influence of the best rebounding defenders in the game, and also kicking plenty of goals, Is the only guy on the list who can do this well.
  23. I'd personally keep going the 'best available' philosophy with the standard disclaimer that if there were 2 equally talented players, but one was either a tall defender or a medium forward, then i'd take the other guy. My thinking being that these are the only positions which i think are 'set' atm. There are still plenty of positions on our field which need bolstering, none more important than our midfield, which continues to be beaten almost every week. I think that we would be adding significantly to our list if we picked up any of either a tall forward, gun midfielder, half back flanker, ruckman or gun Cyril-esk small forward. We are not at the point yet where we are topping up. We're still at the point where we just need as many talented guys on the list as possible.
  24. very very harsh interpretation. Sure he didn't have his best game, but very harsh to pick him up on 3 specific errors, none of which were nearly the worst mistakes made today. - Re: the one where Wright marked it in the goal square. When our player turned it over in the middle of the ground and the North player (Swallow) got it with space running straight through the middle of the 50, it is almost impossible for a defender to stop that. The ball coming in like that is pretty much the hardest thing for a defender to stop. - The missed spoil was bad bc he over committed, however the kick from Harvey to Warren was absolutely outstanding and kicked it beautifully to Warren's advantage. Bruce should have just accepted that he couldn't get to it and instead just stood the mark to prevent Warren from running on. Was a mistake, but not a totally unreasonable one and there would be 15 similar mistakes made by players on both sides today alone. - The 'hand ball to the opposition' was more an intercepted handball. Sure it wasn't a good handball and no it didn't hit the target, but probably 50 other examples of much more blatant and worse skill errors than that. He didn't have his best game and got some goals kicked on him, but i think his experience is invaluable to the team and he has had a terrific season. I love the way he sometimes uses his body to ease the opposition player out of position. I think Bruce is often unfairly judged too harshly compared to other players
  25. I have faith Morton will make it. He has elite running ability, ability to find space, terrific overhead marking and rare ability to find the ball. 2 things holding him back - some poor decision making which i think is being exacerbated by his low confidence. - he needs to develop his body so that he can exert more physical pressure on every contest If it clicks with Cale, he could be one of our best players. I hope its next year. People forget very quickly that last year he was a shining light in an otherwise depressing season. He has the ability, he just needs to work on his game and put it all together
