He may have had "problems", Pickett, but I'm sure that Jimmy fixed it.

How did you become a Demon?
Was originally a Geelong supporter, as I was conned by my mother (whose whole family had been catters). However, my father played 2's footy for the Dees back in the late 40's - early 50's. He then went on to be a recruiter and became heavily involved with both the club proper (finished up on board as Treasurer) and the former players & officials association. He never hassled me to follow Melbourne, but if I was going to the footy with him - then I was going to Melbourne games. He was so heavily involved during my formative years of the 70's & 80's that he would be there for the Under 19's at 9am (then the reserves before the main attraction at 2pm) and would still be in some club function at 10pm. Subsequently I basically grew up at The G, exploring every inch of the place. I also had the (under-appreciated at the time) joy of having full access to the rooms pre & post game - and at half time. I still remember the day that I changed from Geelong to Melbourne. The 2 teams were playing each other (in all 3 games, as you did in those days) in 1976 and I'd wandered down to the end of the race from inside the rooms during the 2nds game to watch. I distinctly recall thinking " I claim to be a Geelong supporter, but I can name only 1 player out there. Every single player for Melbourne has been around to our place for a BBQ at some stage. Who am I kidding - I am Melbourne". Then the hard part came: telling mum that I had jumped off Geelong. It took about 3 weeks to pluck up the courage before I cornered her while she was busy making dinner. I summoned up the courage & explained that I had something very important to tell her; she looked concerned and stopped to listen. When I finally blurted out that I had defected, her response was quite calm. "Well that took considerably longer than I had anticipated". God love her - and here I am almost 50 years later still welded on to the club.

Furphy Melbourne Premiers Cases of Beer
And yet 3 months later, he still has the same 8 bottles for $50 each. I guess that you weren't the only one who didn't lash out after all 🤣

Max Promises Tough Love this Preseason
Am I missing something here ? Max is the ONLY one that I have seen so far that has admitted that there are some issues that need addressing. Yes, he said that the culture is pretty good BUT there are some things that need to be looked at. That is a helluva lot more than Goodwin & Pert said. They just kept the line going about great culture & nothing to see here. As for May: FFS, he was at a CLUB function, having had a few beers (by his own admission when he was interviewed at the time) and made a comment from the heart to HIS people (not the general football public), If not then, when the hell CAN he say something ? He has now said "okay, probably could have chosen my words better" which should appease all the butt hurt [censored] out there. If not, WGAF ? At the end of the day, the proof will be in the pudding, but slagging off players for actually answering questions ain't helping anyone.

Who do they barrack for?
It's a 2-way street. Harmes is/was a dyed-in-the-wool Demon, but he's now gone.

Conversion rate of supporters into members
I maintain that membership is what differentiates between a "supporter" and a "barracker". There are a helluva lot of morons out there at the moment who claim to be filth supporters, but who have never contributed a cent to "their" club.

What they are saying at Waverley Park Drive
I know that I will be MIGHTILY amused if they tank their way to the bottom and then lose their draft pick due to the racism investigation. That would be true Karma to lose Harley Reid after tanking all year to get him

Kane Cornes' Top 5 Players
WOW - that guy is SO on the mark. I wonder why no one else has picked up on it and written about it with such accuracy before (or maybe they have, and I just haven't seen it).

Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
Not sure the Alice game will go ahead, now that the Alice Springs Town Council have pulled all games from Traeger Park. The talk all along has been that if they go ahead with that, then the AFL may pull our game from the Alice, and they doubled down on that threat last week 😢

Junior Membership
As a full MCC/MFC member I receive a complimentary junior membership each year which, as the club has just reminded me, I have not utilised this year. The junior member must be under 15 at 01/01/2023 - and this year I no longer have someone to give this membership to. If anyone knows someone in that category who would like a free junior membership, please pm me, as it is pointless to have it go begging. First in - best dressed.

What they are saying at Lathlain Park
One of my "prouder" moments came off the back of that dog Lewis biting Todd Viney. On the return outing at Waverley I was sitting with the cheer squad and was just giving it to Lewis ALL day. I was loud & obnoxious (& I think I was even getting on the nerves of my fellow cheer squad members) UNTIL Lewis finally 'bit' back (pun intended) and shouted at me to "shut the f&*$ up". It's still the only time I have gotten a verbal reaction from a player, but the crowd erupted, I was elevated from annoying to legend, and the whole cheer squad gave it to him for the rest of the day. Ah, good times 🤣

AFL Greatest Gifts
Probably not what you meant, but the AFL giving us Peter Jackson was the gift that we are still enjoying.
-
Adam Cerra
Yep, it reminds me of Chris Johnson (although I will accept that Cerra is better than that). The one half decent game that he played was against Carltank, which suckered them into thinking that he could play. Don't worry that we delisted him, they clearly knew better 😁

Music after goals
Surely what the common riff-raff choose to use on the street is beneath us ? 😀

MFC Annual General Meeting tonight 20/2/2023 at 6:30pm
In answer to Supreme_Demon's question: There were about half a dozen "questions" put to the board. Jo McCoy was very genuine & understanding of her defeat, wished the board well, but suggested that perhaps the club could hold an information session for parties interested in running for a board position. She said that it was a bit overwhelming & intimidating for anyone who hadn't been through the process previously and that it would be helpful for interested parties to decide if a) they had the required qualifications & b) were prepared for exactly what was required/expected. Kat Roffey was very pleasant to her and, whilst I thought she distinctly didn't answer the suggestion, she did say that she'd like to catch up for a coffee and chat to Jo. Peter Lawrence got up and basically reiterated what his platform has been all along, sniped at the process & couched a question right at the end of his speech (dare I say diatribe) along the lines of "are you going to make the process more transparent". Kate basically said that she wasn't going to reply because she didn't believe that there was actually a question in amongst the previous 5 minutes of grandstanding (my word - not hers). She did, however, reiterate that the constitution had undergone a revamp to bring it up-to-date, that the board believes that all questions have been answered & voted on under due process and that she hoped we could all now move on. A couple of people basically wanted more details re: the progress of the search for a home base. Clearly Gary Pert's message hadn't sunk in to everyone as to why he couldn't be too specific. He did, though, answer those questions by going over previously discussed points re: the Olympic Park precinct, Caulfield Racecourse and that any & all options were being investigated. One person did get up and specifically ask if purchasing land at Fisherman's Bend had been considered. Pert responded that all possible site in inner Melbourne had/are being looked at & discussed at all level. It wasn't hard to read between the lines that yes - Fisherman's Bend has been considered. Kate jumped in to advise that, whilst we could comfortably resolve the issue if we went considerably out of town, it is important to note that we really require about 10 hectares of space to do what we need to do. That sort of land is as rare as hen's teeth in the areas in question - and equally as expensive BUT everything is being considred.
