  1. Here is a clue. 5 out of 50 is 10% Yet 5 out of 100 is 0.05%
  2. If May pulled another hammy , big Oscar would be a fixture.
  3. I was going with half of the 46% quoted here - https://aifs.gov.au/research/research-snapshots/gambling-participation-and-experience-harm-australia#:~:text=Survey findings show that around, some risk of gambling harm. And my recollection of a report (possibly even from Crown itself) that twenty-something percent of their clientele had a problem. What figure you got? However, what is the acceptable wastage level for human lives, 10%, 5%? Including of course the suffering relatives and friends.
  4. Whatever the shortfall of the replacing advertising revenue, it is a lesser evil than 20% of users having their lives trashed. Just say no.
  5. Alternately I believe that ex-players have conflicts of interests that outweigh the "street-cred". They feel a need to let players injure each other in a manly fashion as in the olden days. The ability to use their judgement or discretion makes them feel empowered and needed but randomises the results The AFL approach is unprofessional (I was worried the swear-filter would pick that up LOL). If you want a consistent outcome, you first have very very detailed rules. We already vision from multiple angles. Then it is very easy to tick the boxes and spit out a result. Engineers and tradesmen have been doing this for years.
  6. That's inflation for you.
  7. Nah, the AFL wimped out and ran that line to hide our and the games disgrace. The newspapers reported (and did not get sued) that senior officials explicitly berated the players for being ahead.
  8. Winners are grinners, mate. Fed my family in Aussie for 170 years.
  9. I believe that the extra player, Brockman, falling on Sicily and McCluggage, is a furphy. Sicily was going the full crocodile roll on McCluggage from the start and intended to hurt.
  10. Back in the 80's out at Waverley, a lubricated Melbourne supporter explained to me that an MFC player died as a result as in injury in the 1958 GF and he placed a deathbed curse on them. Whereas at my daughter's Primary School, the wisdom was that Collingwood had to dig up a Magpie that had been buried between the goals in order to win the 1990 GF after 32 years. Just making small talk.
  11. Correct. Rule of the game - 18.1.3 When a Free Kick May be Awarded A Free Kick may be awarded when the football is or is not in play, between when a field Umpire starts and ends a quarter
  12. 1964, else it would be more memorable.
  13. Maynard's spoil on Brayshaw's head was worth a week or two under the Van Rooyen rules.
  14. I reckon the Maggies will try to rough up JVR as they did Jack Watts. I hope and expect the current all-for-one team will this time sort them out.
  15. I too have been telling people for 50 years that Shane Fitsimmons debuted the same day: incorrectly. On Channel 7's League Teams the previous Thursday, Jack Dyer could not believe that a VFL club would field a side with a Flower on the wing and a Swan at FF. He opined that it must actually be Fowler, that's right Fowler. When RDB moved Robbie from the wing, a thing of beauty was snatched away from us. Have we forgiven him?
  16. I expect Grundy to run amok as did Jackson against his former team. As did Farmer, Power and Travis Johnstone. When TJ had 46 disposals agin us, it seemed stupifying.
  17. Petenders unless we have Petty and Schache playing. Tomlinson couldn't keep up with McKay. Smith as a defensive key forward didn't work as did Melksham didn't once TMac went down last year. BBrown, Tmac, no longer can do enough. Adams not doing much. Turner is too light to release Lever from second key back. So the normal run of injuries means Pretenders. Looking forward to being severely embarassed after the GF.
  18. https://www.afl.com.au/video/941705/vfl-match-replay-r11-southport-v-casey?videoId=941705&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1685757900001&references=AFL_MATCH:5186
  19. As others have already pointed out, Lever is a competent second tall but an intercepting marvel as a third tall working his way onto a small or mid. Tomlinson is starring at Casey. It defies logic to leave him out. McVee gets squeezed out. Hunter comes back in. Chandler goes back to Casey and Spargo to emergency but a toss-up really. Two forward spots for TMac, Van Rooyen, BBrown and The Love Shack. I wouldn't overthink this. Just who ever has run the most kms in their last game. None of them are setting the world on fire. With a qualifying 12 disposals at Casey or 8 in the Seniors. That lets TMAC out.
  20. My bolded words are just putting fuel on the fire and are surprisingly ill-judged IMHO.
  21. I imagine that the Ancient Greeks did not give a stuff, with Constantinople having fallen on April 29, 1453. (Yes, desperate but certainly not dateless). However, the educated class in the 19th Century, was mad for Ancient Greek (as well as Latin). They coined new words based on the Ancient Greek language, e.g. phonogram, telephone, phoneme, saxophone. The alternative explanation that those were just the letters that came out of the scrabble bag, seems rather far-fetched.
