  1. I found it strange that a retiring Eddie Betts was lauded as GOAT small forward. I saw wee Jeffery kick 9 goals (all after half time) against the Pies in 200?. That is the benchmark but just half of that would be luxury.
  2. Yes and salary cap space. But lukewarm on a fringe player unless they have disposal skills to fit into an MFC post-choko Premiership team. E.g. not Dunstan. A big heart is less hard to find.
  3. The VFA belting the living daylights out of each other. Grand days!
  4. If one doesn't like the indigenous jumper, one needs to suck it up and take one for the team. Need to show some solidarity with Bedford, Pickett etc. Don't open the window and let the s***storm in. Yep, I removed the incorrect name.
  5. MFC has not always had the player's interest as a priority when trading them on. It is fair that the player has a similar attitude. I don't really want a player in return for LJ unless from a basket-case like GC, GWS or North. After all, the other club is content to see the back of them. A pick 3 that worked out is easily worth a top 10 pick and a 10-20 pick. With LJ's stellar performances, he is likely to be paid over the odds and I would be content to duck that, However, Lethal reckons you can save 10% on a player that chooses to stay.
  6. No, I did see the last quarter which was a good effort.
  7. Must be the Hokey-Cokey Round. We had one foot in the grave. Wouldn't promote Dunstan. His disposal was poor. Possibly, Laurie or Chandler for Oliver. Generally in the third quarter all disposal was poor and no-one really pressed for the Seniors. Would promote JVR to give him a taste of the big time, Weed and MBrown have been tried as forwards and found wanting. The boys didn't really try in the third quarter. Often a Casey player was contesting for a bobbling ball against 3 or 4 Cats and his team-mates were all waiting 3 metres out, to see what happened. When a couple of Cats were running the ball through the wing to HFF, the Casey boys were just escorting them a few metres in-field. No-one was sprinting back to help the defence. Reminds me of MFC 2003. Didn't see the first half :(
  8. I am tempted to write a review this week so I can entitle it "The Last of the Summer Wine".
  9. If Jackson out, Tomlinson in as a utility tall. Brown to second ruck. Still recall BBrown beating two opponents in the middle after his mark was spoiled, multiple times. Another midfielder like Dogga.
  10. 33 next year 👎 He will have a testing job interview this weekend. I am tipping 2 behinds against the great man.
  11. Played a great role in Gawn's absence. His handpasses from congestion seemed to all start an attacking move. But needs to hold some marks in the 50 to keep his place when Gawn returns.
  12. Bell's lack of mobility would be a shock after Gawn and Jackson but perhaps he can work on it.
  13. Back in the early noughties, Caro would not hear a word against the Tiges and never missed the chance to get the boot into MFC. But these days, she is one of the better journos. She runs with rumours that she hears but is often right. Lloydy and Kane are the most measured and analytical. Ross Lyon is quite good but has a lot of baggage. IMO, Eddie will run many an argument to support the Maggies rather than to inform us. Still waiting for him to explicitly concede that Lamumba accusation of racial taunting did take place but it is just too goddam hard. Ditto, many other things. Not very courageous. Hutchie takes undue pleasure in trying catching the other team members in a supposedly failed prediction or supposed change of view. But Robbo appears to frequently change tack as if he sailing into an address by HRH Kennett.
  14. 30, 193, 86 a poor man's Fritsmagnet Petty 197, Lever 195, various De Konings 203, various McCartin's 203, Wietering 195/101, Fortunately Norman* is old and prone to injury, So he will be gone and chasing the sheep off Kardinia Park by the time, more big defenders come through. * official Hawk supporter terminology
  15. While a Tasmanian team might feel the "right thing to do", it would be a mistake. 19 teams is too many for a person to interested in. 18 is a bit as well. Back in the day when the was an odd number of teams, I found the byes and more complicated ladder tedious. As our apparent figurehead might say about Tassie, we already own their soul. NT has NRL challenging AFL but the number of people is very small. Newcastle would be a gain; about twice as many people as Tas. A few AFL-sponsored matches there, would be a worthwhile experiment.
  16. Out: MBrown (omitted), Turner, Gawn (injured), In: JVR, Rivers, Tomlinson Rivers -> HBF Brayshaw -> wing JVR -> Forward Tomlinson -> Utility Tall BBrown to have runs in the ruck. He often recovers the ball when spoiled in the middle of the ground Pickett to have spells on the wing. They won't catch him nor corral him and time to see how big his tank him. Looking at Casey v. Collingwood No one pressed for promotion with slick disposal even before the rain. JVR looked more lively than Weideman. Weideman has been given blocks of 4-ish games and has tailed off if anything. The main role is to run up and down the ground like MacDonald so that a goal keeper cannot positioned like May to snuff out quick forward thrusts. The second is to stand in front of BBrown so that he can nip past to mark at the highest point with his man accidentally blocked. It is a pity that Bell hasn't been rookied. Perhaps they are thinking of this.
  17. It irritates me when the commentators wax lyrical about Brayshaw playing on the outside rather than inside where he finished third in the Brownlow. A big sacrifice for team balance but they should also note that it is a necessity. He went off the ball when he regularly suffered concussion. Hence the the helmet. So I don't think going on the ball is an option.
