What They Are Saying in Lathlain
Torn between seeing us absolutely flogging them or doing pretty much what we have with other sides- strangle, take control and then just maintain control. Same again against North the following week, because after that we have got four big games coming up. (Freo, Sydney, Pies, Brisbane) And… for the crowd to get bigger and bigger each game. If or should I say when we win all these games, I believe would be 21 consecutive wins- something that has never been done before (happy to be corrected on this - I’m too lazy to research) GO DEES

POSTGAME: Rd 08 vs St Kilda
What a beautiful problem that the selectors have to consider in coming weeks. We have so much depth. I was feeling very nervous about us having to face up to Freo, Sydney, Collingwood and Brisbane in the not too distant future. Now I am nervously excited! Bring it on.

Agree, the demon machine just keeps on rolling along for now. Come closer to the finals is when I expect us to well and truly put the pedal to the metal. Can’t wait 😜

Clarry contractual news
I hope all players that have contracts coming up take a leaf out of Goodwin’s book in how he went about his renewal

Premiership Coach Simon Goodwin extends until 2024
I’m with ya bro ….. but I reckon it’s pretty nigh impossible for us to beat anyone above us on the ladder at the moment!

Good question! The comeback victory against Geelong in the last round to become minor premiers could be considered lucky, rather than good coaching. We didn’t smash Brisbane in the first final, it could be argued that we just beat them. The Geelong win that followed, more luck or just an aberration, take your pick. And the GF win? If we kicked 7 goals in the last 8 or so minutes of the 3rd quarter, how come we could only snag snag 9 in the final quarter (one of which was kicked after the siren). And we let the Dogs kick one goal! Not to mention our performances this year thus far. We haven’t even beaten anyone in the top eight! Is this really Goody enough? Maybe he isn’t the right guy?😉

I reckon that there would have been some succession planning discussions taking part during this contract extension. No evidence whatsoever, it just seems the logical thing to do to ensure long term success. As to assuming in 2025 that we will still be contenders, bloody oath we will be. For very obvious reasons I have never enjoyed footy this much in my whole life. Just love now going to the footy with mates who barrack for other teams at the moment. Winners are grinners.

I am so happy. He not only talks the walk in terms of the new team culture he actually walks it. He also clearly knows that he is only as good as the team around him on and off the field. You can almost guess that he actually took a pay cut of sorts to ensure that there is funding available to try and keep on other key support staff in future years. I would like to think that some of this ‘culture’ rubs off onto the players when it comes up to contract negotiations. Time will tell. Just finally, I find it so refreshing how he speaks so respectfully about all of the playing group. I keep saying, we as the supporters of the team can be so proud but in so many ways we also have opportunity to improve on our attitudes and mindsets at times, me included . GO DEES

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
….. and all the more reason to rock up to the game and support our team (for those of us that can, so excusing the elderly , immune compromised, young kids - night games and other legitimate excuses etc). I know I’m most likely going to put my head on the chopping block but I feel the only let down for me in this incredible journey this year is our crowd (lack of) turning up to games. Maybe we are still scared by the past, maybe we do have a lot of ‘fair feather’ supporters that will only come out of their shell if we make the finals and in the meantime are good at coming up with all sorts of excuses as to why they can’t/ won’t attend eg it’s a Sunday arvo game or public transport concerns- (I bet that won’t be a issue for you come finals). Just maybe the general perception that other teams supporters have of us is pretty much spot on. We have room to improve! For years I dreamed of the mighty Dees coming good and dominating with huge crowds. First part, tick, second part - still waiting. Maybe I am a little bit jealous of all the supporters that ‘I love to hate’ that other Victorian clubs have that seem to be more on board with their team than what we appear to be. Finally, please don’t see this post as being antagonist, but rather, trying to encourage. I’m not here to say you should stop watching footy on Kayo if that is what you really prefer to do, perhaps just suggesting that if you go / encourage others to go watch the game live you may enjoy it even more. Word of warning- it could become contagious!

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Totally agree with everything you said. I just wonder what the other umpires are doing at times. Clary aside, it just creates a blight on the game as a whole.

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Totally agree. There is absolutely no need to put the pedal to the metal at this time of the year, that will happen later. Objective now is simple, try and win as many games as possible during the season proper. It pleases me greatly that we have the ability to change up gears when required.

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Agree, for those of us that can go games, it’s about time we step up and go support our players

Workmanlike performance again. Expect that we will need to step up a gear or two next week against the Saints….. and we will!

Is Yze under appreciated?
As Goodwin and the board have said consistently for a while now, the club is planning for sustained success going forward. I believe them! I’m just just taking a wild guess here, but I presume this would involve developing strategies to retain as many key players and coaching staff as is reasonably possible, going forward. What evidence is out there about how Yze has not been appreciated? Am I missing something here? I’m not wanting to take sides, I just want to know. If it is true, that would be both sad and concerning. When I watched Yze doing a press conference earlier, I actually felt very comfortable and indeed proud about how he and the club were handling the covid challenge. Is this just me? I believe that the team spirit, values and respect which is embodied in the club played an enormous part in all players signing back up at the end of last year. I also hope that it holds true for the coaching and indeed the board going forward.Time of course will tell. There is potentially some very exciting things that may happen over the next few years. I’m certainly want to be part of that. I am well and truly over feeling miserable as I did for fifty odd years prior to what is happening right now. I’m enjoying every minute!

Low Attendance
Going to the footy always seems to be so much more fun when your team wins and we outnumber and make more noise than the opposition. So for all those of you who can, please rock up to our games so I can have some more fun. And keep in mind, our purple patch will not last forever. May only go for another four or five years. 😉 Enjoy it while you can.

What They Are Saying at Glenferrie Oval
Unbelievable! I share your pain. In 1964 I was 5 years old and my brother was given a Melbourne footy jumper and I got a Hawthorn jumper. (We were kids from immigrant parents and my mum bought jumpers that had no white in it - easier to keep clean!). The Dees won the flag that year of course, my brother was happy as was the kid next door (he barracked for Melbourne). I refused to wear the Hawthorn jumper from that day on and hopped on the ‘gravy train’, so I thought. One could say it was a bad career move. We all know what happened to the Dees and I think Hawthorn snagged 12 flags since. As I got older I at times thought I may never see us win a flag. Didn’t help much as the league expanded from 12 to 18 teams. It seams the odds were always against us. All I can say now is, it was worth waiting for. GO DEES!!

I just hope the Dee’s are hungry enough to eat the crotch out of the low flying hawks. GO DEES. Eat ‘em alive!

22-0 or 21-1
Not to mention that we had eight 50 metres for dissent which resulted in four goals, but even worse, the way their supporters reacted at the final siren- it was like they thought they won the GF. Sure, we may drop a few in the season proper, but it must not be against Carlton!
