Surely Waverley could cater for at least some of the more intensive sessions they usually run at Casey on Mondays and Fridays?

For everyone freaking out about moving to Glen Waverley - it’s clear that it will make a big difference to the staff and players to be under one roof / not have to travel out to Casey (at least not as frequently) Of course everyone would rather be at a permanent home base, and yes there should be criticism if Caulfield falls through, but until that time the club should be doing whatever will best support staff and players alike If that means some time at Waverley, then so be it

The most important things are to embed a new gameplan that is in line with the trends of the modern game and to allow our younger players to develop in the roles that they will be playing long term As long as those two things are occurring I think most fans will accept losses If we can do it while winning games and being enjoyable to watch, then that’s a bonus If we can somehow do it while winning enough games to play finals, then anything is possible Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and just enjoy the ride for the first time in a few years - that’s where I’m at mentally and emotionally for this season

You can never have enough small forward depth - let’s hope he’s a gun and he can light it up with Trelly and Matthews for years to come

Cornes has some inconsistent metrics in his rankings here He refers to winning margins in finals as a reason why certain teams are ranked highly, but I think outside of the 2000 Bombers and 2007 Cats we had the best winning margins across a finals series We also had five All Australians which is several more than many teams ranked above us, as well as a very strong 17-4-1 home and away record, which, again, is better than many teams above us The COVID-19 argument is also disingenuous, as half the season was played as normal (as compared to almost a full season in 2020) Do I think we were the best Premiership side of the 2000s? No, but however you look at it we were one of the most dominant teams in a finals series since the AFL began, and I think that flag is often underrated the pundits (and even some supporters)

What is also lost in that trade is that we were always only going to draft two players given we only had that many list spots (excluding rookies) Obviously not delisting or trading more players was a conscious decision that put us in that position, but those extra picks we traded for Kolt weren’t going to be used that year anyway

I agree, but I also remember JT stating that they felt there was a cliff after pick 13, so they felt they were getting a considerably better player at 13 than 15 (or whatever it was) While Kolt hasn’t shown much to date, it’s hard to argue against that when you look at the players taken after him (save for a few standouts like Morris and Freijah) I guess they figured they would either trade up for Reid or pick a higher tier of player than we would get later in the first round

I think I remember JT saying he was someone who had the potential to thrive in an AFL system Has the right intent and good athleticism for a player his size - hopefully a full preseason sees him able to run out and impact games more consistently (as well as clean up some of his skills)

I’d be worried about us if I still expected us to be a finals team (like in 2024 and 2025) But it’s clear that there’s been a shift since King was appointed and Trac and Clarry were traded out Happy for this to be a development / settling year where King develops his gameplan and our young players start taking the next step And besides - we finished bottom 6 in back to back years with Trac and Clarry anyway, so what have we got to lose

I’ve had stocks on this kid since I saw his first highlights package in 2024 He’s as complete a midfielder I’ve seen come through the club since Clarry debuted in 2016, and I genuinely think he has the talent to be better He’s going to put this club on his back for years and I’m so excited to see his development this year
