If your tongue is not in your cheek, I would like to know what you think tanking is? Matty Warnock and Frawley forward was tanking, just because it may have some tangible benefits is a moot point - we were trying to minimise our chances of winning. Take comfort in the fact that the tactics of tanking have been used by Bailey since Rd 1 2008 - Garland and Weetra playing when they shouldn't have. There is a litany of other tactics that Bailey has tried with players over the 40 weeks and I listed them in another thread (can't be stuffed regurgitating now).

Nah. My comfort in what DB is doing comes from the fact that the tactics of tanking have been used since DB's first game in charge - playing Garland and Weetra. Nevermind the fact Garland gives YM wet dreams, at that time both boys were, in the eyes of 75% of supporters, delist material. DB is just stepping it up a notch in a vital three week period which culminates this weekend in the last tanking game. Then we can all get a little less tense and enjoy the final 3 weeks of the season.

Perhaps this 'tweet' from Jones could be used by Bailey as subterfuge to protect his plans; Matty Warnock has been preparing during training for stints in the forward line...
-
Sylvia, Morton, Moloney, and McLean would be the only ones pushing. It will be very hard to keep the first three out. Again, if NM turn up we can have all 3 in and still not be up to it. Richmond nearly screwed us like PA did. Why can't any of these teams we must lose to turn up on the day?

I never realised how hard it is to type when you are laughing hysterically... Whether or not Dunn continues his decent form of late, you have been wrong about so much, for so long that a thread like this is so undeserved it's bordering on narcissistic perversion. Newton can become a good AFL player... Jack Grimes has a fundamental flaw in his kicking... Anyone else have anymore gems from Freak?
-
I see what you're trying to say. And I agree totally. This is the most nuanced argument I have seen for a while. But, let me interject for one moment with this... Petterd!!! Maybe we are both right?
-
He certainly is making CC's claim that we would have taken him at 4 if Morton wasn't available INFINITELY more believable. He is exactly what we need - an inside/outside mid with a great kick (Oh, Freak - Haha) and great speed (against WCE he was clocked at a top speed of 33km/h, Priddis got up to 25km/h). The bonus is his leadership (and his love of the Dees). The bad is that he loves the Dees so much he decided to get Garry Lyon's back...

Who cares about Freo? 1 and 2 or 1 and 3? It's meaningless. The amount of times number 3 is better than 2 is well documented. It's a lottery with the best 18 year olds because you don't know which will be the best when they are 24. I just want two of them...

It will be touch and go for Valenti to get a spot on the list. Getting the PP would not help him though.
-
Unlike a few others who think as you do, you never stick around and back up your argument. You're just a sniper. And, if Mr Morton wanted to, he could reverse it and say the shame is yours for not taking into consideration the long term future of the footy club...

WE HAVE LOST 51 GAMES SINCE 2007. And, no-one deserves a PP. They need it, and the competition needs them to have it. We are just trying to abide by the system...

Cheating These are the tactics of tanking, yes. Anyone who says otherwise is an ostrich. But they have been used by Bailey for the past 40 rounds. Examples Garland, Weetra, Meesen, Spencer, Frawley, Morton, Jetta, Bennell, Martin, Watts, and Maric at different stages getting getting games they didn't deserve and/or ahead of more seasoned professionals. Players playing in alternative positions to aide their development (someone excelling is beside the point - it's still risk (losing on the day)and reward (developing said player)) - Petterd trialled at HFF, Morton at HFF, HBF, and as tagger, Sylvia across HB, Davey across HB, Martin at FF, FB, Ruck, and wing, Jones as tagger, Garland at CHB (Cheers for that one Bails!), and there are probably some that have slipped my mind. And why should we risk injured, even slightly injured players at the end of another losing year? These are the tactics of tanking. Please refute my assertion that we have been using these tactics for the entirety of Bailey's reign. And if you don't want to refute that assertion, then in your mind - we have been cheating since Rd 1, 2008. We are tanking, but all Bailey has done is step-up what he has been doing already.

We lost to a goal after the siren...

We must hear different press conferences. When he was a guest on On The Couch, he was asked whether the PP changed how he coached, and he replied that it didn't change anything and that he was only concerned with 'developing players.' He has been very careful about this, and I suggest you look through a few articles to see how his language has been very careful. And he shouldn't be ashamed, I'd be doing the same thing. And there is nothing I love more than the Demons.

We tanked, we engineered a loss (however close) through selection (Sylvia - OUT, Newton - IN), injury sensitivity (Morton, Moloney, and McLean), and obtuse positional changes (Warnock and Frawley as FF and CHF). What the hell do you think tanking is? Not me. I have always said that I hoped DB did what he did today but that if the players still got up and won, and they nearly did - that fate was being unkind, and that no fault should be at the feet of Bailey. ??????? I don't know where to start here... Richmond have a good midfield... Warnock and Frawley as future forwards... I guess sense was made with the reference to the development of the younger players but... One final thing - Haven't we had disagreements over the past few weeks about tanking? And, considering you are OK with what was done and this is exactly what I had in mind, why have we been arguing? I guess that is two final things, but I am interested...
-
You're right, it doesn't matter. But you have to realise why DB is doing what he is doing or you'll go insane. The easiest thing for DB to do would be to not make the changes and get some unconstructive wins, but he sees what is on offer and is acting accordingly.
-
As 'a disgrace', I'm OK with my attitude on this issue. We have lost 51 games since 2007, I don't want to lose our 'deserved' PP because of a technicality - a meaningless win against a pathetic side. You'd be better served by watching what you post as I want what is best for my club, and right now 4 points pales in comparison to a PP.
-
It must be very freeing to think like you do. We tanked. That's not to say there isn't any benefits from the tactics. Jetta learnt from playing on Cousins, Warnock and Frawley got a bit of freedom, Miller and Bate got to Ablett and Bartel for a half, PJ got punished and played on Brown, and Newton had the chance to be the loose man accross the backline and get some easy touches. Jetta learnt, Miller, Bate, Frawley, and Warnock got new perspectives and we all found out that the careers of Newton and Johnson will be over in 4 or 26 weeks time.
-
We have lost 51 games since 2007. A couple of scrappy wins against pathetic opposition does not a winning culture make.
-
That's a very 'results driven' attitude. Commendable. Unless you are trying to build a team to win a flag... Then it becomes naive...
-
We tanked, but come on 45H16 (?).... They were 4 and 7 FCS... 4 and 7! Equal, I think not.
-
DB just did what he had to do with the circumstances he has been dealt. I guess this is harder for some, but I haven't been 'results driven' since the 'footy sucks' game in 07.
-
Unequivocably correct, YM. If anyone from our FD told a forward to miss deliberately I would demand they be removed from the club. You're an idiot, Freak.
-
Yeah, I did. I wanted fate to do us a favour for once.
-
I think you have a case of premature expectation when referring to Jurrah and Scully. One will be a 21 year old forward and the other will be a kid in his first year. If they are in our top 6 next year we will be bottom two again. Out of the youngsters coming through you missed the one that looks likely to step up considerably next year - Jack Grimes. It's all about capabilities and responsibilities. These are my justifications for my top 6 players in 2010. Morton - Wing/HFF, high on Inside 50s, assists, averaging 20 touches, and around 20 goals, with at least 1 contested mark a game Davey - Wing, most Inside 50s, most assists, averaging 25 touches across the middle delivering into 50 Sylvia - FP/RR, moderate to high number of tackles, clearances, and Inside 50s, and around 30-40 goals Garland - HBF, most rebound 50s, averaging 20 clean touches off HB into the guts, QB role (Hodge 08) McLean - C, most clearances and tackles, 25 to 30 touches giving to Davey or Grimes or Sylvia to deliver Grimes - RR, high on clearances, Inside 50s, assists and tackles All in important roles with impressive output. I can't see Bruce or Green outdoing any of them for output or to be put into important roles. Moloney is a tough one and it was a close one with McLean in terms of output in the stoppages. Frawley is an interesting one because he could play a Scarlett type role with his ability to beat an opponent and run with the ball. And here is an odd one - If Jamar plays every game like he has this year he will be in their aswell. However, HO to advantage would have to be high.
