OK then. Open your eyes. He's doing it.

Read carefully before you post. That is one formulated assumption I believe in firmly...
-
And we do that as a group. Facts floating around brought up from time to time (some now defunct) that are never backed up with evidence because they are just accepted as fact. And I put my hand up on a few myself. CAC is an awful recruiter. BB is an awful fitness pro. Garland is a dud. Hand up. Frawley is a dud. Hand up. Bailey has no gameplan. The previous board didn't care about the club.
-
It is healthy to challenge your own assumptions, only idiots stick to an argument they have clearly lost on the facts. Defend your point of view, but realise when you are wrong. Bailey did with Garland (so did I) and we have got a 200 game player on our hands. And again with Frawley this year. Some need to with Bate who has been easily the best forward and the one the opposition has put the most work into. That will change with Watts and Jurrah and that will make Bate even more dangerous. Great thread CB. Anything that makes people think inwardly can only be a good thing.

The Great Ego over at D'Ology wants the Dees to look into trading this kid. Apparently, because he wouldn't be top 20 in the hypothetical draft of the 140 taken in the last two years. I wish Scott Clayton was as misguided as this bloke. If have never, repeat never, seen a 193cm player at the Dees come on as quickly as Cale Morton has. He has played, and succeeded, as a HBF, HFF, FF, Wing, and Tagger at various stages this year. No-one has the crystal ball to see how careers will pan out but this guy has the body and footy smarts (that kick to Davey on Sunday tells you all you need to know) to be one of the greatest wingers in our history. An actual wingman, not just another link in midfield - but a player who affects games by taking marks at both ends of the ground and stopping, and kicking, goals. If Richmond called me and said "rpfc - Cotchin for Morton" I would politley decline. Granted, I say that with the full knowledge that two elite mids will come to the club in a few months time but the fact is that Morton has the chance to be a dominant player in the AFL. I forget that he isn't 20 until next January.

What the hell are you talking about?! Read the thread, not just the title. And I hope you are not infering that we should go out of our way to lose, we are last and they are first... We will LOSE.
-
It doesn't help when some posters, and moderators, shove these 'facts' down your throats. I've spent half my positive player posts defending this year the bloke who will have the most goals and most assists, and been one of the hardest workers all year. But I have felt compelled to do so because of posters taking the sh!te dished up by other posters as gospel and repeating their nonsense. Too many bullies on this site feel compelled to offer a derogatory remark about the intelligence of the posters that dare to disagree with them.

With Wheats, Whelan, Robbo, and Junior moving on that's... Picks 1, 2, 18, 34, 50, 66, 82 and PSD1. If you elevate Spencer then take off 82. I think it would unwise to take anyone at 50. I think it would malfeasence to take anyone at 66. This is a weak draft and our list management should reflect that fact. It is a fact and you need to change your opinion or look a little foolish in around 2 months time.
-
You know, sometimes you make a lot of sense... Well said.

A strong club honours those that fought hard for it. Paul, Wheels, and Robbo deserve to be chaired off for what they have brought to the club. We are in a position to give them that 'soft' game and we should give it to them. We have utilised more youth than Hitler this year and every one on the list bar Strauss and Blease having been seen in a Demons jumper over the last two years is a good effort, and even 3 rookies have played games.
-
BS5 and RR, I think you're both wrong. It's not poor list management just because a bloke on the RL is a decent in and under player and you have three other similar players in a list of forty. And, RR, it is not an indictment on a player that they remain on the RL if a club uses every rule to its advantage (in this case it is the rule that two years are allowed for those on the RL). The example with regard to Valenti is that we kept him on the RL, if he eventually makes it onto the list, in 2008 because we wanted to keep open a spot on the list that eventually went to Liam Jurrah. The amount of time spent on the RL is inconsequential to me, if the FD rate Valenti they will elevate or re-draft onto the list at the end of this year. If they do not rate him, they will not.

My hope is that Davey and Grimes are in our top 6 players and starring in the effing midfield. If they aren't playing in the guts next year I will be very dissappointed. And Bate is a better HFF than McKinley (and taller), Jamar is better than Seaby, and Reilly would make our slow midfield on a par with continental drift...
-
They may have won the flag but that win over them gave us a winning culture... I'm just playing with the 'winning culture' people... You guys are adorable, you'll love Scully running around for the Dees next year. Oh, and 'You're Welcome'. (A message from an early member of the 'No more than 4' brigade)

His arms and shoulders are smaller than Matty Bate and Bate spent the first three seasons of his career as a mid. His hips are wider than his shoulders, another sign that he doesn't put the effort in during the summer to give him the body to perform at this level. Jurrah is taking his spot and his quicker, cleaner, smarter, and far more skilled in the art of taking a mark and beating an opponent in a one-on-one contest. If that is vitriol then I'm sorry, but just because some on here are vitriolic does not mean that the criticism he gets is unfounded. He has another year and if he comes back in February shredded I will change my mind on his application. Until then...

This argument was over the day we lost to NM. The PP is ours. Stop worrying, we play two teams that are much better than us in games they will be eager to win. It's done. So start thinking of numbers you would like to see Scully play in - 9, 31 or 13?
-
My ideal would be to see the club do some 'pointless' pick upgrades (Exaample: player + pick 50 for pick 43 or player + pick 34 for pick 29), possibly for one or two of the following - Newton, PJ, Batram, Bell, Miller, and Dunn. I'm not saying all of them should go, I am just saying that pick upgrades allow a club to move on a contracted player with little fuss if a replacement player is within its grasp (ie. on its RL). If St Kilda want Batram (which was a rumour going around a couple of weeks ago) I would say that Batram and pick 33 for Pick 34 would be good because it would mean Valenti on the list in his place, and we don't suffer with a loss of a pick. Basically, it would be Valenti and 33 for Batram and 34

I think it has to be Aaron or Brent. Aaron is the best player we have, our only star, and he works harder than anyone. Brent is the best leader of men at the club and would give his left nut if it meant he could win us a flag. They both have 5 years of good footy left in the heart of the midfield and can, and do, impact games and those around them.
-
Nice work, 45HG16. We haven't gone for the jugular in the past. Hopefully our future leaders engender that desire when we are decent. Brock, Aaron, and Beamer look like they love to keep piling on the pressure. The other two were Carlton 2004 (Bruce kicked 7) and... Wouldn't have a clue...
-
Prescient. And conceited...
-
My god, the fans of this club go up and down with what they think of this team?! A few days ago people were saying we were a chance to lose to Freo (?!) and now we are a chance to beat Carlton at Etihad (?!). Be more consistent and try and tie down what you think we are capable of.

Congratulations MFC - we're truly on the way back

For me, the most encouraging aspect of the FD (aside from what they have recently done to secure two very good players) is the fact that we now have 2 development coaches in Williams and O'Donnell. More people to help teach kids how to use their body properly, lead better, defend better, and run more effectively. Makes a big difference. -

You look foolish doing this. We don't know what CC thinks of each coach, and West is great and Mahoney is bad?! How would you possibly know? We are the worst team in the league with awful and scarce delivery from midfield. But the part-time midfield coach has made a real impact?! -
We have had this argument before and I agree that more than 4 picks in the two drafts would be best. However, with the compromised draft, and the difficulty of finding OOC talent in the PSD, I can certainly see a scenario where we take only 1, 2, 18, and 34 in the ND. Pick 50 is equivalent to approxiamately 70-75 (with the changing of the age levels) so holds little appeal to me. Going to the PSD without an opening is unheard of when a team has the first pick so I say that 5 deletions would be what I would be looking at if those that should be gone are still contracted for 2010.

Have a good look. Bate is making it. 2009 is not 2008. Facts change. People hopefully know that opinions can change when the facts change. The facts are these - Matthew Bate is a good player for the MFC, will kick the most goals, have the most assists, and finish in the top 10 in the Bluey. And he did that with the worst delivery in the league and with the least opportunities.
-
But you don't rate Bate, so Newton must be an effing good tackler. People should realise that when your only argument for a KPF is their tackling, that you should stop with the thought right there and then. Newton doesn't meet the footy in the air, watch Jurrah on Sunday and he will show you a number of things that Newton doesn't or can't do. And BTW, Newton is a lightweight, figuratively and literally. Unless he had OP in his shoulders, he should be bigger and stronger than he is. He has one year left, and unless he comes back from PS training shredded he will spend 2010 at Casey and move on at the end of the year.
