PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
OMG, Essendon and Collingwood aren’t on FTA!1!1!1!1 What a disgrace because I am a Big Team nuffie who gets what I want all the time. Some of the nonsense in this thread is making me like the Gather Round more! Can we talk about the actual bloody game? Bombers are better. Stringer is still fat. Lever is sore apparently. Petty down back surely.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs West Coast
I really hate the ethos of this post. You say he is distracted - he seems pretty effing tracted to me and his direct opponents. You intimate he has made his mind up already and that is tantamount to saying he has decide to leave - that mindset is self fulfilling for the club. And lastly, this hand wringing is less to do with Kozzie and more to do with the fans of a club that is wholly unused to having a great young players. Thank JEBUS Petracca and Oliver signed up until the QLD Olympics with more than a year to go on their contracts. But that does not mean that all have to follow the same trajectory - we need to calm down and not burn our young on the altar of what they ‘might’ do - the club is bigger than that. Isn’t it?

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
I was talking about the cut that US sports people get of the revenue, so really no need for the country drive by there. The Saints we’re decimated before the practice games, and WCE or a shambles, so you can hardly argue the week earlier start did that. These guys are athletes - you tell them the parameters and they will adjust, some better with the help of High Performance staff. Frankly, I don’t know what the optimum number of games are but the 90s has years of 20 games as we jumped to the 22 that is now apparently so sacrosanct. Geelong want to take 16 mins off the game so their geriatrics can compete. I just don’t think it is such a disgrace.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Ummm, ok, what local suburban leagues do you attend? The AFL wanting to be a profit generating exercise is not new. Players get what 28% or revenue? The NBA has it as 51%. Are we playing less praccy games or pointless pre-season games? I don’t care that much tbh, but this extra game is fine. The teams are better with the talent pool recovering from the expansion teams and with the coaching and FD of teams in the best place than in years.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs West Coast
Well I haven’t said this much in my time but I agree with WYL... Only a Demons fan would argue that, with a team like this, after a flag, with a player like Viney, who sets fear into the hearts of opposition players, who our own Clayton Oliver is thankful he doesn’t have to play against… only a Demons fan would troll him (or her) self with spurious thoughts about the talent and capability of Jack “I lectured my teammates after my debut game” Viney. It’s laughable and lamentable.

PODCAST: Rd 04 vs West Coast
We are in a good spot and it’s only a month of footy; cool your jets on Angus. He is our best Ute and we are playing him in the backline which is fine. His kicking is ‘all duck or no dinner’ when he gets us going through the middle. Not everyone is going to be firing on all cylinders and he is a proven player. He may bite off a bit, but our new gameplan demands someone bite off something down back to get us going corridor. May rarely does, Lever never does, Petty Nup, Rivers is increasingly ahead of footy, Salem injured, Hibberd prefers down the line, and Bowey needs someone else to try and get us going.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
They seem comfortable to have JVR as the back up ruck to Grundy so not necessarily. I would go in trying to overwhelm Essendons backs with height and then abandon in the third if not working. Out: Hibberd (managed/inj) In: Brown Petty back. Unless there is something I am missing - I would go with this. Harmes doesn’t slot back in anymore, JJ/Sparrow interchangeable almost, Petty experiment can continue soon. But if they want to keep it going it might be time for Howes for Hibberd?

2023 List and Contract Details
Re-signings in priority order: 1. Pickett 2. Rivers 3. Chandler 4. ANB 5. Jordon Easy: Woey Retire: Hibberd, Melksham Delist: Dunstan If JJ isn’t signed up then I don’t lose much sleep tbh. Chandler is emerging and ANB is a crucial role player. Pickett and Rivers are the next generation mids that complement our bulls and we need to keep them if we want to stay at the top.

Trent Rivers Re-Signs until 2027
Rivers and Pickett are the two players that are refreshing our midfield. They are must keep in my eyes and that may mean Sparrow, JJ and/or Harmes leaves. That’s AFL footy.

This will sound trite (when has that stopped me) but Gawn being injured for 6 weeks is the best thing for Brodie to get comfortable being our main ruck. Gawn will settle into the best back up ruck the game has ever seen and FF and our forward line will suddenly cause a bunch of headaches for the FD. We need to manage that group (Gawn, Grundy, JVR, Brown, TMac, Petty) to ensure we have headaches come September. *JVR managed due to age and Petty ‘managed’ due to him looking lost by sending him back to get confidence.
