  1. As I have said across a number of different threads since 2022 - it is less about ‘the big tall forward’ and more about how we have moved the ball in transition from the backline. We just have to continue to move in the bold and daring direction. There are variants but in today’s game of disciplined athletes executing team defence - moving it quickly and directly to players with decent forward craft is key. When they come back for pre-season training - Chaplin has to continue what McQualter reignited and push our best players out of their baser instincts; May demanding the ball and slowing down play, Gawn requesting dump footy and waiting for him to get into the forward 50, CP5 and CO13 running 5m and dumping it indiscriminately forward - run further and get it over the defensive setup or use forward handballs but our best players are so predictable it makes their dominance moot. So, yes, would love a dominant forward but they would be wasted until we fix these issues and get the ball moving.
  2. Getting out of the top 10 for a pick 29 or 30? We gave up ND28 and a whole lot more to get this effing pick. Just trust your judgement and get a quality kid in with 9 and be done with it.
  3. Was that 2018?
  4. That Josh Simile… hope is better than that Tim Metaphor, or worse yet - Sam Analogy. We will never be able to tell them apart…
  5. All I was keen to know was who was the ball movement coach and Chaplin having that role is the best option we could have. He is our best line coach and has the respect of the group. I just hope it is a game style that is a shift from our defence first nature.
  6. Dr, I am simply saying that denying Pert the self-ownership of the decision and the actuality of being someone not just out for himself is the cynicism. Your post just provides more evidence to that end - if SS (IF…) was suddenly more keen now that he would have a clean executive slate to work with then credit to Pert for ‘retiring’ and not making the club face a difficult financial decision to remove him. I am just saying that denying good people agency over their own decisions is just petty and cynical and says more about us than them.
  7. Why would the review demand he go? It’s his review… Thats one of the problems with the review… Look, I don’t think it is healthy to be cynical about EVERYTHING we see in life. And either way, he gets credit for the decision then doesn’t he…
  8. A number of people in this thread with the false bravado of someone who thinks and sees the world in black and white. I am glad for the decision that Gary seems to have made because it seems to have been made in the best interests of himself, the staff, and the best interests of the future of the club. We couldn’t afford to wring change without that best interest and willing self-sacrifice. Not every tenure is holistically bad or good and those of you harbouring misgivings over half a decade are just as ridiculous as those believing ‘reports’ of his executive malfeasance. Life is more humdrum than some think it is, it is less sensational than Tom or Sam accuses it of being, and it comes full of good people trying to do their best. And with that, I say thanks to Gary and look to the future, and the next executive on a hiding to nothing in some eyes.
  9. Even more straightforward a read is the club is investing time in mature age recruitment of key forwards. So I don’t know if the last bit about the draft is extrapolation.
  10. If this helps Goodwin solve our obvious ‘culture’ (standards and professionalism) issues within the group then that is great. And it will be great to see him back at the club and that he is keen to coach. My read was that McQualter was in charge of ball movement and game style so who is running that is my main concern - we have to continue to move the ball positively and quickly.
  11. You ought to know who is on first base, you’re the manager of the team
  12. I have wondered that too. Match payments are the same. My gut feel is the respect thing. But I haven’t read the new CBA as deeply as the last one.
  13. Age will not weary that night, nor the years condemn…
  14. Perfect opportunity for him to take over where ANB left off. Needs to know his limitations and keep moving the ball quickly, him stopping play to bomb it 30m is a momentum killer.
  15. I will not find the article but both Trac and Oliver earn a percentage of the cap, not a flat number, I am sure they can move money around but I am fairly certain it is tied to the cap.
  16. Imagine how picks we would get for Petracca and Oliver if that happens?! 😍😍😍
  17. The difference between ‘depth’ and ‘list clogger’ is a successful season…
  18. He was never going to do any different. This is salvageable if we allow it to be. This is also one of those incredibly rare instances where fan behaviour and feeling actually impacts a situation…
  19. Yes, it’s like referring to my ‘failed romance’ with Sabrina Carpenter… No I didn’t know who she was 6 months ago, yes I am aware it’s a creepy thing to post, no I am not going to change my behaviour.
  20. We were after Waterman weren’t we? I guess we came up empty again. I am somewhat comfortable with this as we are in a bit of a ‘regen on the run’ as Cal Twomey (or the other one) put it to Tim Lamb so they can finally get some reps into Petty and Turner and see if they are going to long term fits with JVR or whether they need to go and spend some capital next October as we look to win some finals in 2026.
  21. ‘Invites him onto the board?’ Well that isn’t Democracy is it now?
  22. ‘All comments are relevant’ - no they’re not. Also, dismissing people (posters) outright is not ‘free-flowing discussion’. While I agree with Ethan’s post and its sentiments - it is used by the mean spirited and malevolent to waive away pointlessly mean and cruel posts. Thats the very small percentage of posts that has made this place so abhorrent of late.
  23. I think thinking positionally is a bit of carry over from a bygone era. We should look to ensure he is in space to receive and go at stoppage and at contest - if that means he is ‘wing’ or ‘HBF’ then whatever.
  24. I hope not - his best attribute is his speed and that may build into midfielder-like ‘drive from stoppage’ that makes it palatable to lose CP5 or CO13. If he was ‘QB’ that puts him behind the stoppage and behind the ball with little room to run and move into. Bowey and Salem are perfectly able to do that and get the ball out of May’s ‘Hands of Molasses and Long Kicks to the Left’…
