  1. I have, on more than one occasion, said that there are more measurements of progress than the 'legislatively important' W/L column. Bailey thought it was 'Quarters Won' - Roos sees percentage as important. They are not wrong. In fact, they are both right. My issue is with the Demon fans who hypocritically lambaste the former as weakness and laud the latter as insight.
  2. I get tired of this overtly defensive focus we have seemingly ingrained in our psyche. Neeld had this notion that all you have to do is teach them how to play defensively and stop the other team and that's that. But if all you are worried about is 'The Other Bloke' then who is playing footy here? One is intent on the footy, and the other is intent on their bloke not getting the footy - who has a chance to win the footy in that scenario. No, I want some footy hunters, I want Trengove to go out there and try to win the effing aggot. I don't think Watts can win contested footy but if he works hard enough to spread, he can reach heights in this game by being damaging with the footy in space. More damaging than anyone who would be playing on him.
  3. 3 years with a trigger that he thinks he will easily hit; he refers to it as a four year contract. I guess if he does easily hit that trigger then everyone is happy he is a Demon at 32...
  4. Oh, yeah, FFS...FFS? Really? You are talking about minimum not 'a possibility, not out of the question.' It isn't out of the question that Roos inspires a complete turnaround with these weak-willed airheads and we make the finals, but we are coming from a low base. 54%? God damn... I expect consistent effort and a dearth of blow outs. I don't expect a 400% increase in the amount of wins as a minimum.
  5. So unless Watts can be as good a midfielder as Swan, Selwood, or Mitchell we shouldn't bother playing him there? So I guess the only midfielder that earns a guernsey is Nat Jones - going to be lonely in there... Certainly Michie won't be at that level - should we bother with him? Oh, and BTW: Mitchell averages 18.3 Uncontested Possessions a game, 9.7 Contested Possessions, 4.4 Clearances, and 3.5 Inside 50s. Swan: 19 UPs, 11.5 CPs, 5 Cs, and 5 I50s. Selwood: 12 UPs, 12.8 CPs, 5.1 Cs and 4.1 I50s. Jones: 12.3 UPs, 10.9 CPs, 5.9 Cs and 2.7 I50s. Pendlebury: 17.3 UPs, 12.6 CPs, 5.6 Cs and 4.1 I50s. My point is that Uncontested Possessions fuel the modern game and some of the best midfielders of this generation get high numbers of them and that is what drives their effectiveness. It also helps if you are as skilled as Watts.
  6. Who are we beating for these '8 minimum wins'?
  7. Michie? At the moment he is a good WAFL player. And being a good midfielder involves much more that 'beating Sam Mitchell in a stoppage.' If Watts can spread and get 20 Uncontested Possessions a game and 6 Inside 50s we will be a much better team.
  8. For those who interpreted the article above as Bernie not wanting to be a Dee I suggest you listen to the audio of the MMM interview in its entirety: http://www.triplem.com.au/adelaide/sport/afl/news/2013/10/bernie-vince-off-to-melbourne/ Rucci is always selective with what information he passes on to readers. And this article is not for Demon consumption but Crow, to make crow... I think Vince wanted to be wanted. And he seems to have got that.
  9. He said you were over simplifying it, not that you were wrong. Sponsors care about everything related to their exposure to a club. We would be a toxic mix of failure and instability up until Jackson agreed to stay and lured Roos. So that means we are a blank canvas with (soon to be) 40k members but we will still have less exposure on TV, papers, and radio than other clubs. It will be tough to get high end sponsors as it always is.
  10. "Before you worry about how many games you are going to win, you have got to be competitive for longer." - Paul Roos Ahh, jeez... Alright, let him have it.
  11. Yes, Vince's words were: "A real Clubman's club."
  12. I don't exactly know what you are asking but here goes; 1. He can only go though the ND, then the PSD, then the RD. 2. He cannot pick which draft to go into.
  13. Maybe we would have won 1 game instead of 2 if we didn't go to the NT. Or maybe it's really irrelevant.
  14. I think confidence and resilience has to be rebuilt and I still believe that the majority of our list might be a little punch drunk from the last couple of years. Roos will help and so will a couple of the new boys who haven't dealt with it but I still think we are going to have some bad form and when it will come half the 22 will go to water, simply on muscle memory.
  15. lol Port did what we did. They did heat training in the NT. Heat training and altitude training both have their experts claiming superiority, frankly I think the effects of both are minuscule. Altitude requires 3 months of sustained training at altitude for it to last 6 months. That's from a few boys who work at the AIS at my footy club up here. Collingwoods 3 weeks in Arizona are laughed at by cyclists like Evans who will dedicate months up in the hills to get a small benefit. I think worrying about where we do our pre season camp is a waste of time tbh.
  16. Sounds like a very honest bloke, maybe too honest... But Roos and Viney calling his folks is a nice if hardly a standard touch. I wonder how we would react to that if we knew this and we didn't get him, or if we knew, didn't get him, and it was another coach not named Paul Roos... His description of what Adelaide thought of his future will worry some Dees supporters if they take that at face value; Vince said that Sanderson and co. explained he had zero chance of getting another contract after 2014. They really wanted to get some value for him... Frankly, the whole Sylvia-Vince-ND23 deal was a a good deal for all three clubs. They all got good value for what they lost.
  17. We don't have a second round pick, we have 3rd and 4th round picks - that is what TD is talking about. We also do not have a 5th round pick so if we were to delist another player and pick a replacement it would be with Pick 94 in the ND (this would end up being about the 75th live pick if used). I don't think we will take more than 3 in the ND. Maybe delist one either Nicholson of Jetta to use in the PSD or DFA. Maybe.
  18. Anonymity doesn't make what is written on the internet non-corporeal. It removes all context and sheds credibility but an insult is an insult whether you know that person's name or not. With that said - there are worse opinions then thinking someone is crap or a dud. To those criticising BH for that, there are far more vile and mean spirited things being said on BF, Facebook, and even on here about posters and a few players.
  19. Take the bloke with pick 9 then... If he is the difference between hypothetical flags and all.
  20. For the past few years I have decided to form my 21+1 around the midfield rotations and leave aside the traditional 'lines' as I see them as only relevant in helping people count to 18 on the field... Ruck: Jamar Fwds: Clark, Dawes, and Gawn (2nd ruck). Defs: Frawley, Garland, McDonald, Clisby, Terlich, and Toumpas. Mid Rotation: N Jones, Cross, Vince, Viney, Trengove, Tyson, M Jones, Michie and Grimes (rotate back), and Watts, Howe, and Hogan (rotate fwd). I want to get Watts and Hogan up the ground for different reasons, and I would love to see all of Cross, Vince, Michie, and Tyson fit and firing for this game. All are first choice mids in our midfield (save for Michie who has to prove himself above Evans, Kent et al).
  21. A 50% improvement on 2013 is 3 wins with a percentage of 75%...
