New Major Sponsor: Automotive Holdings Group (AHG)
rpfc replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow. I cannot believe they kept this quiet for so long, they got a jumper printed off... Jackson and the Board have got the ship pretty tight, I know there was a mention last week on here but I believe that poster got it from a regional AHG head from memory. -

I think it is a digitally altered picture of last years jumper at last years photo shoot. Don't think it is the jumper, it would not be close to being finished yet. -
New Major Sponsor: Automotive Holdings Group (AHG)
rpfc replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
We always like to think we have a comparative advantage in terms of networking. Other teams have more members to bulk mail, more exposure on TV, etc. But getting a companies bigwigs to talk to other bigwigs about projects, investment, etc is something we like to think we are very good at. There is an elite arrogance there for sure, but probably quite a bit of truth to it. There are some connected Melbourne supporters... -
Yeah, but I have come to appreciate McLean as he has morphed into Gysberts, then Pedersen. All being said - and I think that Pedersen will get over the low bar of having a better second season - I would prefer to still have McLean...

AFL warns clubs about independent testing of Draftees
rpfc replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Calm down. They are just saying that any test will be done once by AFL approved medicos and will be released to all clubs. Kids should not have to go through 18 different scans and nor should clubs waste money. The alternative would be Collingwood testing 25 players that we wouldn't afford and hoarding the information. There is little to complain about here.- 18 replies

Can we please get a leak of the dollars involved? Anyone? -

So only the one major sponsor? The money must be north of $2m... -
Some of you, er, will not get that...

Yes, it will be Taylor and Viney. Roos will have input but those two will do what they did last year hopefully - it looks to be a very good draft class.

'As you recall'? Go and get that posts that prove all that nefariousness. I wouldn't have given Schwab an extension. I would have asked Don to move on after Schwab was paid out. I had an issue with having a caretaker coach for the majority of the season. But I am not in a position to make those decisions. All I can do is impotently opine, just like you. And I criticize those stuck in the past because there is no deconstruction in vitriol, it's just pointed hate. I have acknowledged their failure, and we can analyse what went wrong but it devolves into harsh machismo towards the individuals involved. And I don't know where I have called someone a traitor to this regime, nor any regime. I have had trouble with you not because I am right and you are wrong or the other way around - I don't like lazy debaters. Your arguments have not been convincing and I have said so. That is the whole and extent of our relationship. You're not evil, I am not, and neither are former employees and board members of the MFC.

5 posts up.And he did say astute. If we get it right, we will have what we want, but some are acting like we can't go wrong. I assure you that one or two or three of these sure things just won't back up what their teenage selves did. Let's hope someone else picks that kid for a change.

I don't care. I'm sorry. I don't. Every clash strip is going to offend someone - the perfect clash strip is an oxymoron.

I defend anyone against unfair attacks, they became less unfair as time went on, failures amassed and crises ensued. I posted that I could see Schwab being removed before his last fateful 3 year extension, but we all know what happened after that. If all you have got to do on here is gnash your teeth at McLardy, Schwab, and those that may have been mean to you - why bother? Do you really have time to waste on this hate? We have got half a midfield now, another kid coming in 5 days, Paul effing Roos as coach, and what do you want to do? Fight with all those posters that made you feel inferior. Build a bridge and come join us in the present at some point.

Ok, I have posted this before but there is a dearth of people on my side of the argument chiming in so... Dunn has played about 3 good 'half-seasons' and has been tried in all positions with serious limitations in all areas. His work as a HBF (in the easiest position to play in the world) is not terrible, it's not great as he is not a great defender, but he can hide with The Big Three down there. But the thing that I can't stand is the faux toughness. The jumper punching, the short steps before a contest, the tough talk without the walk - I want him to stay and play well and help us get better, but I don't like the way he has gone about his footy, and I do not see a future for him past 2014/2015, especially if Grimes is pushed out of the midfield. We have this thread every year (although this is a mutated training thread) and I think it is because we still see him as an up-and-coming fringe player ready for bigger things: he is 27 next year and yet to cement a position in the 22. We have Matt Jones being dismissed as an AFL player by some on here as is too old and reached his peak. He is 6 months younger than Dunn, has played one season, and has already had a better AFL season than Dunn. Why the disconnect?
-
You shouldn't have bothered jnrmac, this thread simply provided a vehicle for vitriol. The failure of the McLardy presidency and of Schwab as CEO is there for all to see, document, lament, and move on from. They're all Demons and they will be there when the tide turns and you can do what you like but I will be there singing the song with them - they are not evil.

While we are hitting all the touchstones while in the sandpit - what design would you like for the away jumper?
-
If it's astute. 37% of Top 10 draftees between 1999 and 2005 did not, and will not, play 100 games. Clark and Ellis are not included in that number - Clark will soon play 100, Ellis is a season away. 47% of Top 10 draftees between 1999 and 2005 have played, or will play, 150 games. The player taken at Pick 9 in that time has averaged just 70 games with only Clark and Jordan Russell in a position to positively affect that number. I hope it's astute, and not a statistic...

You don't spend first round picks on 'Injury Insurance' ever. You certainly don't do it when you don't have a midfield.
-
You'd think that wouldn't you...

Ok, we have a couple resident experts when it comes to foot issues... How bad is stress fractures on the foot? Garland had a hot spot didn't he? Steer clear if he gets that far?

Usually. Although I swear I have heard "we'll have the cheese car please" come out of the mouth of Melbourne recruiters once or twice...
-
That's not how it is, BB. There are 5 cars on the lot and one maybe two of them is the porsche, another two are solid toyotas and there is one made out of cheese and doesn't have an engine.

I don't understand this at all. Limit on development? How do you do that? List management is playing kids, sending players off for surgery early, and retiring players before they need be retired. That is what people commonly refer to as 'tanking.'
