AFL Under 18 Championships 2023

Watson 4 goals one behind. Just draft him and give the “Wizard” jumper #33. You know it makes sense. I’m sure Turner will be fine with it: -
If DeGoey is free to play on the Kings Birthday after that bump then that will just about do me

Now matter how many games they get on Friday night or marquee games they play in Carlton have absolutely no right to as they have been ****house for years. The only explanation for this is the club lawyer who clearly is a genius

Defensively as a squad fantastic last night. Great forward half pressure and the May / Lever combo back to its best. Great to win the contested ball numbers as well. However, I genuinely do not know how we are the highest scoring team in the league. Our ball movement, overuse of handball and at times inexplicable width that we play with especially with deep entries forward. We have some serious talent in that forward line but I struggle to see how we are playing to the strengths of that talent. The leading patterns are terrible and again Bailey leading to the wrong side of the ground for a left footer. Stafford or someone at the club needs to sort it out because this narrative of we don’t know what our best forward line looks like and it is still a work in progress whilst trotting out the highest scoring team in the league stat is not good enough. There has been ample time to sort it out, it should be better because there are no apparent roles down there ( Kossi still trying to take mark of the year) and our leading patterns are poor with no work for each other. This forward line should be better functioning than it is and it is not.

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Dee Viney Intervention replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Collingwoods speed of ball movement is a massive concern and they are great by foot and hand. Hope our defensive mechanisms hold up. Must win contested footy -

With all the negative publicity around Carlton this week Friday night has banana skin written all over it

APS football is a pretty high standard stacked with kids that are TAC Cup or Coates League Players that play for their school first. A high number of high draft picks also have come through APS football. You should go watch a game. FWIW Watson played mid / forward.

Another 6 goals on the weekend for Nick Watson at Caulfield Grammar away against Xavier. No Noah Yze.

TRAINING: Monday 29th May, 2023
Dee Viney Intervention replied to kev martin's topic in Melbourne Demons
Maybe Staffy could do a drill with the forwards where he throws a sausage to the left, one up the middle and one to the right to get our forwards to seperate. Then another drill where he throws a sausage up in the air to a tall and one at the talls feet for a small to be there. -
Gee the sponsors on Stewart Dews polo are getting some bang for their buck.

It’s an interesting discussion. I have been thinking for a while that we allow way too much uncontested possession with the zone we play. I would love us to dial up bit more heat at the source. The ball comes out of our forward line far too easily. Our game used to be based on contest and defence currently we are poor at both.
-
Understand he was a NGA product. Not so sure about the clearly told that he would get more game time though. If so as a Victorian boy would you rather play on the MCG every 2nd week or in front of 5000 people at Blacktown. I am disappointed he left as I am sure the club is…. Still can’t blame him for wanting more game time.
-
Bit harsh on Bedford, how many times was he the sub player. Left for game time and I can’t blame him.Would love to have him on the list still, a bloke with genuine leg speed as opposed to the one paced players we are stacked with

Lachie Hunter Loses Bid To Overturn 1 Week Suspension
Dee Viney Intervention replied to Monbon's topic in Melbourne Demons
We should change our name from the Demons to the Guinea pigs as we seem to be the AFL Guinea pigs for obscurity. A 50 metre penalty against Richmond for a bloke in the “protected zone” behind the man on the mark. Happens most weeks never paid. Roo charged for striking when clearly going for a spoil. Free kick against TMac which later has lead to a match review panel charge on Jonas. Now Hunter stopping and picking up a groundball yet other similar incidents go unpunished. A jumper punch to the guts which was meant to be stamped out get stamped out and is not a football act just a fine but contesting a ball one week. The MRP and tribunal are like the AFL fixture….. they are Fixed!!! -

Noah played for Caulfield Grammar and kicked a goal. -
You had me at Collingwood and lines

Our problem is we have too much of the same, one paced contested ball winning bulls who aren’t winning the contested ball and when they do there is no connection with the forward line they just blindly bomb it in. There is no balance in our midfield or depth of midfield just more one paced contested ball winning players.Where is the speed and silk. We have 2 All Australian ruckman that should be providing silver service and we are not getting bang for our buck in the midfield, this group should be better but at the moment they are not.
-
I really want to be optimistic about this but people saying this could be a blessing in disguise. An opportunity to try something different, I really hope so. I hope we try Rivers, Chandler, Bowie, Kossie something different someone with pace or a remote bit of x Factor as I believe our midfield is same same. But until our kick ins from full back go anywhere other than the left I hold very little hope of us trying anything different.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
Dee Viney Intervention replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Really disappointed in the South Australian trio of Kozzie, Nibbler and Chin last night. In conditions they should have revelled in. They should have had blue balls but didn’t fire a shot. -
For this reason I want Nick Watson next year. Height aside he has speed, X factor and class. Our midfield is not balanced enough and our smalls are not getting to the drop of the ball.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti

We allow far too much uncontested possession. Any team with a bit of foot speed and decent use by foot will carve us up. Too many one paced plodders in the team.
