Defensively as a squad fantastic last night. Great forward half pressure and the May / Lever combo back to its best. Great to win the contested ball numbers as well. However, I genuinely do not know how we are the highest scoring team in the league. Our ball movement, overuse of handball and at times inexplicable width that we play with especially with deep entries forward. We have some serious talent in that forward line but I struggle to see how we are playing to the strengths of that talent. The leading patterns are terrible and again Bailey leading to the wrong side of the ground for a left footer. Stafford or someone at the club needs to sort it out because this narrative of we don’t know what our best forward line looks like and it is still a work in progress whilst trotting out the highest scoring team in the league stat is not good enough. There has been ample time to sort it out, it should be better because there are no apparent roles down there ( Kossi still trying to take mark of the year) and our leading patterns are poor with no work for each other. This forward line should be better functioning than it is and it is not.

Collingwoods speed of ball movement is a massive concern and they are great by foot and hand. Hope our defensive mechanisms hold up. Must win contested footy

It’s an interesting discussion. I have been thinking for a while that we allow way too much uncontested possession with the zone we play. I would love us to dial up bit more heat at the source. The ball comes out of our forward line far too easily. Our game used to be based on contest and defence currently we are poor at both.

Understand he was a NGA product. Not so sure about the clearly told that he would get more game time though. If so as a Victorian boy would you rather play on the MCG every 2nd week or in front of 5000 people at Blacktown. I am disappointed he left as I am sure the club is…. We should change our name from the Demons to the Guinea pigs as we seem to be the AFL Guinea pigs for obscurity. A 50 metre penalty against Richmond for a bloke in the “protected zone” behind the man on the mark. Happens most weeks never paid. Roo charged for striking when clearly going for a spoil. Free kick against TMac which later has lead to a match review panel charge on Jonas.Now Hunter stopping and picking up a groundball yet other similar incidents go unpunished. A jumper punch to the guts which was meant to be stamped out get stamped out and is not a football act just a fine but contesting a ball one week. Our problem is we have too much of the same, one paced contested ball winning bulls who aren’t winning the contested ball and when they do there is no connection with the forward line they just blindly bomb it in. There is no balance in our midfield or depth of midfield just more one paced contested ball winning players.Where is the speed and silk. We have 2 All Australian ruckman that should be providing silver service and we are not getting bang for our buck in the midfield, this group should be better but at the moment they are not.

I really want to be optimistic about this but people saying this could be a blessing in disguise. An opportunity to try something different, I really hope so. I hope we try Rivers, Chandler, Bowie, Kossie something different someone with pace or a remote bit of x Factor as I believe our midfield is same same. But until our kick ins from full back go anywhere other than the left I hold very little hope of us trying anything different.

Really disappointed in the South Australian trio of Kozzie, Nibbler and Chin last night. In conditions they should have revelled in. They should have had blue balls but didn’t fire a shot.

For this reason I want Nick Watson next year. Height aside he has speed, X factor and class. Our midfield is not balanced enough and our smalls are not getting to the drop of the ball.

We allow far too much uncontested possession. Any team with a bit of foot speed and decent use by foot will carve us up. Too many one paced plodders in the team.
