Hope our coaches and list management are watching the giants and see the importance of an outside game. We are all inside no outside. Their ability to win contest and spread and ball movement into a forward line that has motion and space whether it be fast or slow ball movement is a thing to behold. They are also very disciplined in their roles talls doing what talls should do and smalls doing what smalls should do.

Maybe we could ask Carton if we could borrow their lawyer and appeal JVR suspension. Their lawyer is the unsung hero for them this year.

I get that we want to be a contest and defence based team. But why does it take the lights to go off at the Gabba or be down in a big final at the MCG at 3/4 time for us to flick the switch and start to play with more speed on the ball and more directly giving us “better” looks at goal and momentum in the game. We are more than capable of playing attacking football we just don’t have the balance right. I understand we are missing Petty, Melksham and Brayshaw off earlier denying us Trac spending more time in the forward line but this ball movement and midfield / forward connection, forward efficiency and smalls not playing their roles, or really our forwards playing defined roles period is not a new phenomenon. And we want to put all our eggs into Harley Reid. We have a lot of issues to address with our list, Harley Reid will not solve them we need to draft a number of quality youngsters that can play outside the contest and impact the scoreboard.

A Nick Watson would be handy

No mention of his injury history although 70 games in 8 seasons tells the story there. He is a bog ordinary defender that has seen a fair bit of football down his end of the ground over the last few years. He’s tall and that’s it.

We aren’t talking about a post game drug test here are we? Kossie will be fine. Would like to see him get to basics in his role as a small forward and not go for mark of the year every second week. I also think 5 minutes in the midfield here and there to get him in the game and gives us a different look is also a win -win.

Watson could cover Bowey for injury or loss of form but I think you are wasting him in the backline and would have him close to goals or at JVR ‘S feet. Duursma would start as a forward possibly taking Mekshams spot with the ability to roll through the midfield in time. McKerchin could fill a number of roles mid / wing rotating forward.

Unless we are training during a horse race meeting which I’m tipping we wouldn’t be there is plenty of parking at Caulfield. Serviced by a public transport network and major arterial roads. Ticks all the boxes. Can’t wait for it to happen.

Spends a bit of time in midfield rotating forward for Caulfield Grammar, against SA in nationals he was playing off half back flank at one stage. Absolutely has X factor, speed and makes good decisions with the ball and is lethal around goals. Gives us options enabling Kossie to spend more time in the midfield, Chandler if he builds his tank could also roll thru there, Chandler or Watson could play high half forward / wing with Kossie deep. Gives us a real different look with speed, skill and elite forward pressure. Plenty of options depending on opposition match ups and form of senior players. McKerchin and Duursma would also be great fits and fill an immediate need improving connection and our forward line.

Harmes most likely get’s Shai Bolton who quite frankly is the only player Richmond have that is worth worrying about.

You can only hope common sense prevails because that is massive overs and a huge leg up for Norf.

Agree with everything you’ve said. Would also be pretty Ballsy to take two Tasmanians. Sanders the safer bet for them as he is boarding at Melbourne Grammar and part of their Next Generation Academy so may be less of a flight risk. Having said that I do hope we target McKercher as he fills a need and hope we back in our culture and development to retain him if / when a Tasmanian team enters the AFL.

MELBOURNE Draft picks: 4, 15, 23, 34 List chasm: The Demons could do with a connector to help their forward-half efficiency issues. Simon Goodwin’s side this season is ranked 12th for scores per inside 50 and 13th for kicks inside 50 retention rate. There’s been some improvement in this area in recent weeks, but the footy world probably needs a greater sample size before declaring the Demons’ issue has been fixed. It’s clearly a team problem to an extent, but could also be helped by personnel via the draft. Ideal draft prospects: Melbourne has an absolutely stacked draft hand to work with. In an ideal world, either Launceston star Colby McKercher — a Zach Merrett-like midfielder with great inside-outside balance, composure, burst from stoppage, terrific workrate, agility and an excellent left-foot kick — slips to their pick, or fellow Tassie ball magnet Ryley Sanders — an ultra-consistent midfielder who’s clean by hand and foot and explosive out of stoppage that, ultimately, could be pre-listed by North Melbourne — ends up in the open draft. Another option could be Eastern Ranges’ Nick Watson, who’s a superstar goalsneak yet an astute and clean ball user up the field that could appeal to the Demons. Other options later in the draft could be Eastern Ranges’ Caleb Windsor, Tasmania’s Arie Schoenmaker, GWV Rebels’ Joel Freijah and Sandringham Dragons’ Archie Roberts. Taken from Fox Footy Article. No mention of Reid. As previously mentioned I hope we go down this path. We are in a premiership window now and connectors or quality outside players are currently the missing piece of the puzzle. Get 2 quality ball users for the now and the future. Looking ahead we need to think about losing May, BBB and TMac. We also need to figure out is a Petty a forward or defender so consider trading in a ready made Key position player. to fill a void there while Jefferson develops.Beyond that it’s Viney and Trac which we can draft for there are plenty of mids in every draft and I back this current recruiting team to find some quality.

Playing for Mordialloc in SFNL.

No doubt Harley Reid will be a very good AFL footballer. I just hope that we use our draft hand to balance our list better. We do not need another bull, yesterdays game just reinforced to me that we need some outside players to compliment our inside players. Two outside players with a bit of foot speed and elite foot skills will help sort out the connection issues we have with that last kick into the forward line. Yes Harley can play a bit outside as well but give me two picks over one.

Not bad, but I had a dream of McKerchin or Duursma delivering the ball lace out to JVR with Watson at his feet…….there was movement. Much rather use this draft to fill a few needs than go all chips in on Reid. We need to sort out delivery / connection from midfield to forward line and to have an absolute sniper that scores goals for fun and has some serious X factor.
