We were gifted Petracca at pick 2, I think time will tell Sparrow was an inspired pick and everyone thought we went too early on Oliver.
Bang, Bang, Bang.

I know that it's the off-season and the Herald Sun is scrounging around for AFL stories. I also appreciate that it's November, so the Herald Sun is desperately trying to find stories with a link to the up-coming draft. But re-ordering a draft held less than 2 years ago is fatuous.
At least, that's what I would have written in any other year to justify why no Melbourne players made the top 10 or moved upwards in their personal ranking.
(Let's be honest, it's a meaningless exercise given the brief opportunity these players have had to show their talents.)
Let's go back a few years there is no doubting who is the best player in the 2014 and 2015 drafts. We had early picks but Petracca and Oliver thank you very much.
We also selected Mitch Hannan and Bayley Fritch in subsequent drafts with with much later picks and they both lit up the finals.
Our recruiting is almost exact in an inexact science.

Nathan ablett was chosen to keep Abletts happy . The other 3 were top shelf successes and made a difference in winning flags
dustin fletcher , jobe watson , josh kennedy but he was better after he left to Sydney, Tom liber , john brown , steve silvagni
some players yet proven
Not true. Nathan Ablett was a much better footballer pre AFL than Ablett jnr.
He got there on merit and played well in Geelong's premiership.

I’d be very surprised if he’s not a permanent fixture in 2022.
He played an important role in our first premiership in 57 years and was selected in that team when we had basically no injuries.
The only way he is not a permanent fixture in 2022 is if he gets injured or JT lands a superstar at pick 17.

Hopefully it is easier in a wet area.

for the mcg day i expect only double vaxxed will be allowed in
but what about kids under 12?
i've got 2 grandkids, both members who can't be vaxxed yet who are dying to go
They would have to let them in. I have a daughter under 12 as well in the same position.
Got me thinking how would they prove it anyway? My daughter doesn't have a phone to show a vaccine passport even if she could get the jab.

Whoever we pick will be a competive beast regardless if they are inside, outside or in the middle.

In a podcast I listened to with Jason Taylor he alluded to thinking Daicos is the best player in the draft. He has proven to be a pretty good judge. I hope North bids on him.
Melbourne have been very easy to deal with in the lead up to our first premiership in 57 years. I think there is argument to say getting deals done for needs is more important to a club than scrambling to get what looks like a win on paper.
Essendon and Freo seem to have the opposite strategy thinking they need to win deals at all costs.

Slightly off topic but Casey is the pathway to play for Melbourne.
You might even kick 6 in a GF.
Culture - Casey is a destination club for aspiring AFL players.

Why can't people keep politics out of football threads?

The scary thing is our forward line is still a work in progress. Everyone has their role but that changes from week to week depending on match ups and structures.
BBB will be much more consistent next year.

I hope he comes to our premiership celebrations on December 5.
Much loved Melbourne Football Club royalty.

Not really sure where I sit on Sparrow.
I think his kicking and decision making still needs plenty of work. Even choices that paid off in the grand final weren't always the best ones IMO. The low percentage long goal off a step could've been a quick kick to an open Ben Brown 35 out.
Are you disappointed Petracca had a low percentage shot from the boundary instead of centering it as well?
Sparrow kicked a vital goal in our first premiership in 57 years and you are questioning if he took the right option.

If we have capacity issues due to Covid, social distancing issues or every single Melbourne supporter knowing the result we might need to consider large screens in the carpark.

I remember when we drafted him Jason Taylor got asked why we would take him when had plenty of tall backmen. JT said when "a jet" is available at your pick you take them regardless.

This year will definitely rank in the top 20 of Max’s life.
When you take out all his knee reconstructions, smoking on the way to training and turning up half cut on his first day we can easily eliminate a few years.
Safely in his top 20.

I would love Yze to mentor her and see Daisy be a force on the men's coaching team panel in the future.

If I got told at the beginning of the season or even beginning of the the finals a Melbourne player would kick 6 and not win the Norm Smith I would have never have believed it. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.

I can't believe the middle name is Oliver. Big Max is living and breeding a culture. Congratulations to he and his wife.
