Luke flats with my mate's son. Said the other two clubs that interviewed him basically said the same thing - "what can you bring to us".

Luke said Dees said to him "this is what we can offer you".

My friend said Luke is a ripping young man and was hoping he'd land at the Bombres (her team).

Goodwin always seems to say similar with players we want.

Have a look at his highlight video on afl.com.au. It will make you both really sad that we don’t get him and jealous that pick 17 isn’t going to be anywhere near the range he is being picked at. GWS aren’t wrong contemplating pick 2 on him.

I liked the highlight clips of just about every demon who we have ever drafted since all the footage has been recorded and made available.

When we drafted a fat red head kid I could see he had skills but was a bit unsure we took him so early.

When we drafted Luke Jackson all his clips showed a bloke who couldn't kick and we were taking an interstate ruckmen way to early.

I love watching the draft highlights but I prefer the grand final ones where the fat red head kid and a young ruckmen who couldn't kick win us a premiership.

I'm backing Jason Taylor on this.

  3. He is just another player available in the draft. If we get a competitive advantage by drafting him through the academy rules I am all for it but as it stands that looks unlikely.

Best of luck to the kid.

I don't know where he will play but I don't think it will be at Casey.

It's extrordinary that he got the 2nd most coaches votes for St Kilda and the coach wanted to get rid of him,

Hate to quote myself but had a rethink about it. Maybe it was the opposition coaches giving him votes?

  5. I've written before on Demonland one of Toby's mates got in a fight at a nightclub and Toby was on crutches, hobbled his way into it and started smashing the other bloke with his crutches.

He couldn't even walk but he wasn't going to miss out on a fight.

  6. Jason Taylor will dominate with pick 17. With covid cancelling alot of footy and making it impossible at times to travel interstate lots of teams will struggle with the picks before us.

JT only ever goes for 1 type of player, highly competitive. Other teams will make the mistakes we used to make and look for "leadership qualities" The person with just about the least leadership qualities we have drafted in the last 20 years just captained us to a premiership.

Or they will go for a skinny, skillful kid with "upside"

JT will have alot sitting there for him that he won't believe and will get a competitive jet.

I appreciate the effort that he went to in creating the video and he clearly wants to know more about how these happen. Enough to make a 50 minute video on the centre bounces for a game only twice that length. However I think he generally misses the most important parts of the centre clearance.

He places an undue importance on getting front position. The important part is that front position is only situationally important and often it can be quite a detriment, which the Dogs succumbed to. The inside space is only important to own if there is actually space there (ie, between the player and the ball) and if there isn't space there then you are just getting lost in the mess. The reason why Melbourne were so successful is because they owned the outside space more often, so the clearance wins resulted in damaging entries rather than shallow scraps out of congestion.

I'll do a bit more at some point on some important clearances from the game but it's important to note that these weren't won from owning the inside, they were actually won from owning the outside. This resulted in the Dogs struggling to get value from their wins and, conversely, allowed the Melbourne wins to be genuine scoring threats.

Agree. In previous years Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Petracca were see ball get ball but alot of the time they were all going for it at once. This year thanks to the players maturing, an emphasis on selflessness and some strategic help from Yze we were alot better on the outside.

The youtube vision of Clarry before he was drafted showed him handballing over his head from within packs. It was the feature I liked most about him

Did you ever dream he would do that  type of havoc in a grand final? Ensure the Dees win, and not even contest for the norm smith medal??

This the year that Garry Lyon in his book says the Dees should have won.

No clear stand out team, Melb had a good team and good record but had to travel to Perth which cruelled their chances.

I don't mind Perth so much anymore

    ok here's another one.

Can anyone be bothered digging up stats on say over the last decade - what % of premiership winning teams each year are made up of (sorry for international jargon)  - home grown talent vs imports?

I thought Jim Stynes and Sean Wight were imports.

    Loved them both.

Apparently being voted the best player in a GF and producing on the biggest stage of all isn't very watchable these days 😥.

Neither is winning the coaches votes for the season, getting 33 possessions, 10 tackles , shutting down Bont and a nail in the coffin goal in a GF. Voted the most selfless player by your teammates in a trend other clubs are trying to follow.

Or a giant who is All Australian captain, kicked a goal after the siren to see his team win minor premiers and kick 5 goals in a preliminary final from anywhere he got it within 60m.

No not really, and it doesn't work that way.

Nick Daicos got an invite when he's pretty much already with Collingwood already.

It's just mean Taj hasn't got that much interest really.

His old man, Shane, didn't have much interest in him either at the same age but went on and won a brownlow.

Looking forward to the "Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Taj Woewodin" thread on Demonland.

I just had a look at the Norf's big footy page to see what they had to say about BBB.

While there was some to and fro about him, what infuriated and disgusted me were some vile and disgusting posts about Daisy Pearce by a couple of absolute pigswill and moronic posters.

It stems (they claim) from a comment Daisy made about BBB leaving Norf for Melbourne.

I have now moved Norf  to the top of my most hated oppo supporters list and fervently hope that their ****ty club remains cellar dwellers until they are disbanded.

Anyone against Daisy is my enemy. She is as much Melbourne as Demonland.

    * Bowey  :D

I can't spell Smyth or Lion correctly, so give me some lenience on Bowey.

Thank goodness Leocelli doesn't play for us anymore, I would have no hope.

I still can't get Trengrove right either.

All of the loses were due to the teams inaccurate kicking at goal,

The Adelaide loss was due to the umpires not paying deliberate at the end of the game.

The irony is that they did pay deliberate against Brayshaw (when it wasn't) in the last game of the home and away season and it won us the much more important game.

I’ve been thinking about this. Not just coached, but each coached the next to a premiership. You could add Checker Hughes coached Norm Smith, who coached…

Also suggests there’s a future premiership coach currently in our playing group. Any suggestions?

Jake Bowie. The kid never loses.
