I think post Lions season, Dev Robertson will be available and he is a much better option.

Interesting a number of lions posters have been wishing Fullerton was still there so he could play now that Big O is down.

Andrew McQualter - Appointed coach of the West Coast Eagles
Although I dont think McQualter will get the WCE gig, who should we get to replace him as mid coach if he does knowing we also need a fwd coach and ruck coach.

2024 List and Contract Details
So assuming Tomlinson and ANB are gone, TMAC and Melk confirm they are staying, and Hore does not get a new contract, then our position going into Trade and Draft period period is : - 5-7 spots left on Primary List - 1-3 spots on Rookie A - 1 spot on Rookie B Interesting then to see how/if we can accommodate Yze, Mentha and Andrews, 2 or 3 draft picks plus any incoming trades.

the list squeeze at suns may provide a few interesting options if we can get them for little to provide some depth. Discussions include Lukosius, Rosas, Day (DFA maybe), and Davies. of interest: Mids - Robertson (BL), Peatling (GWS), Brodie (Freo), Parfitt (Geel) Fwd - Kreuger, Not sure on value of Wright. Ruck - Kruger, Wright, Day could play this role as genuine ruck/fwd allowing JVR and Jeffo to be pure fwd. Still not ruling out Fullerton either to come on. Interesting idea to get Raik Andrew (Mak's brother who is our NGA), as some bargaining power for Mac later

2025 Trade / list changes - Hypothetical only - TMac or Tomlinson - If Tmac retites, Tommo stays. If TMac plays on Tommo is gone - Loved Luke Hodge suggestion for MFC to chase Ben King and offer big money. While I like it, I think that would be very hard to do, however, Id be more inclined to chase Mac Andrew - will have a soft spot for Dees given NGA connection and could get deal done - with 1 yr to go on contract - Gone - Schache, Joel Smith, BBB, KFW, Gus - Bring in Houston and Edwards - Bring in a Mid (like Robertson) - DRAFT - new NGA to replace KFW and Yze onto Rookie

PREGAME: Rd 23 vs Gold Coast
Really interesting to see what happens this week at selection, given Goody's "full bore" comment yet unable to make finals and opportunity to start pre-season early for some carrying injuries, and others needing an opportunity. Does he try something new for last 2 weeks or stay with current plan. I would think this is an opportunity to try something.... Jefferson? Ruck support? Clarry to go in for op and start preseason? Ben Brown farewell?

going to throw a left field idea here.... all the talk is Waterman as a big body KFP. If we look at it, we would seek such a move for a big fwd target for a few more years as JVR, Jeffo etc further develop. as an alternative, and not dissimilar (but probably more reliable), what about Sam Day from GC who is off contract and we offer him 3 years. we will probably only get 2 out of him but big body, can mark, can kick and not getting run on GC over King, and youth. maximise our window

Trade Targets
Out of frustration and a reminder of hope and opportunity, I watched the 21 GF replay, and a couple of things really stood out to me: - The unexpected loss of both Jackson and Gus significantly hurt us structurally, and was/is a huge dent in our planning for long term success and list management. Its not like you can just flick a switch to replace those two. - Add to that the injury this year to Tracs and to a lesser extent delivery from Spargo, and our structure and balance has seriously been thrown out. - Give Clarry a full preseason to get back to where he was prior to this season. - The importance of #1 FWD in BBB was critical to balance, however his early deterioration of his knees also offset our balance and plans a couple of years early. - I remain excited about the work put into the kids on the squad, and the opportunity for a sustainable rebound however with the two major losses it probably shortened our window unless we can be creative with new experienced additions, given we wont have the same draft capital available as we need to replace, especially given the age profile of our stars - we no longer have the same time period. - So as I see it our priorities remain: 1. Ruck support for Max - not back up ruck playing at Casey, actual capable ruck/fwd playing regularly in best 22 "in LJ style". requires a tweak to Goody current plan and gets back to what worked for us. Im not saying we have to go out and get it, but perhaps its Verral/Fullo now and look to draft our next Ruck. 2. Rebound defender/class mid user - Gus role was so important as it supported defence but gave us a qulaity mid and fwd delivery option which we have lost. So the need to further support Lever/May and while Riv has/can play that role, someone like a Houston is probably a really good fit to complement. Given I presume Tomlinson will see the light and leave seeing its clear Goody has no role for him (other than break glass in case of emergency), + see 4 below. 3. Strong Key Fwd to take #1 defender, to allow growth of JVR and Jeffo next year and remove pressure of Fritch and Melk who are not contested fwd's and can be freed up. Someone like a Waterman would be good for the time we need him. BBB filled that role beautifully until his knees gave out. 4. Petty to go back to defence where he was so strong and in his element. I thought it ironic in the commentary of GF21 where they said, "Petty has been amazing since coming for the injured Tomlinson and has not missed a beat". He is a defender - play him primarily as a defender with the ability to swing on a case by case basis. I presume also TMac wont have another year as strong as he did this year. Petty can take his place and TMac can play the Jonesey role on a game by game basis and educate the defenders coming through. 5. Midfield depth required. Targets on horizon - Mac Andrew (Trade target), Kalani White (draft target), Dev Robertson (trade)

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs GWS
Embarrassing by the club, selection committee, but most importantly the coach. The way Goody hung Fullerton out to dry in the press conference was really poor form and nothing but trying to divert attention away from himself.. I think they used him as a scape goat as they admitted we would lose the hit outs before the game started. That's weak. Rather than trying to be competitive (and even is he did think we would lose, what a learning experience for TF). Instead, we hung the kid out to dry in the press, went in with 2 makeshift rucks, against arguably the best 1 -2 ruck combo in the comp and a highly effective and efficient midfield who are in form. Petty and JVR were both playing out of position, one whom we are trying to make our key forward and wonder why we got smashed in clearances. All of this because of poor selection decisions. Goody just admit you got it wrong.
