  1. Spot on. Playing on family name now. He is a seventies type, second rover who spent 90 per cent of his time in the pocket.
  2. Well described. Chiron had been in career best form and Dermie destoyed his career that game. I can remember the hit as well. Execution IRA style. gees we could not take a trick with the Hawks. I remember walking back to my car after 77 Preliminary. I dont get involved with opposition supporters much but I did say to a gloating Hawk women on my way back to the car. We will get revenge. She laughed at me, and is still laughing 44 years later. No wonder we get emotional on here some times.
  3. Dermie was the real deal. Courageous, tough and a predator. he hunted down a few of our players. I remember him taking out Dean Chiron one day, himself a pretty tough player. This reminds me of the ex player who did a story on a footy hitman operating in the VFL. That player was exposed quite rightly as the thug, Roger Merret. Dermie is doing his job and sinking the boots into the MCC mob he despises at the same time. Funny part is the modern Hawks are a leafy wealthy Eastern suburbs lot these days and dermie long sincee left the Pines.
  4. Taking down a peg or two. Your words, not mine. I think him seeing ball, get ball is so ingrained it is now difficult to change, I think the evidence is pretty clear it is difficult to change a sportsman base tactics in their late twenties. Some do it to their great credit. I have confidence in Mark Williams being able to review Jacks game and highlight things such as when he gave up the chase running behind Max Gawn in the second or third quarter. I will concede lack of fitness with Jack. As for the Age best players, then for some players and we do not know if Jack is one of them, a contradictory message is sent as I said at the outset.
  5. Get your thoughts in order before you call my post garbage. Vineys disposal over the years has been below average. Your attitude to me criticising his handling just goes to show how I am correct in that he has always been praised and has either not been told of the things he has to work on or else he does not listen.
  6. And there lies the cause of the problem for Jack. I suspect all his life from Junior days onwards, Jack has been patted on the back for hunting the ball and racking up possessions. Have any coaches had the desire to tell him to leave some balls for others and one good kick is better than three bad kicks. I doubt it. This whole tough guy mystique around him leaves me cold.
  7. Abbey Holmes is the best of the commentators except.... for this. Petty has just pulled himself off... pause ...panic.... the ground.
  8. Vineys size, height means he should be playing as a rover and breaking the game open and being creative.. However he plays like a battering mid which is more suiited to our bigger players. It is a quandry. Last night the balance went to far in favour of the bash crash and not enough skill in the middle.
  9. Out Viney Brayshaw Jackson Rivers. Lucky ANB, Hibberd, In Hungry players, would have Daw as our rucks are getting targeted with dirty tactics.
  10. Listening to the commentators you would have thought the Hawks were the team who had been down and out for sixty years. I havent checked but did we not both last play finals at the same year. Are we not both trying to build lists to have success. Do we not also have a bunch of players with less than 30 games. Frankly to me being top means very little other than a double chance in the finals.
  11. There was a passage in the second or third where both Viney and Gawn were chasing a hawk who ultimately goaled. Gawn nearly got him and busted his guts. Viney gave up. A tale of two captains. His is not match fit and has a loser TEAM mentality.
  12. Yes, I knew a knockabout bloke from Moorabin. Reckons Rex used to bash him regularly for not doing much.
  13. Spot on. Every other sport people practice their routines. I will probably be ridiculed but close in the old punt kick was ungainly but accurate.
  14. Makes sense to an extent but the fact is you go hell for leather when you get your chance. Linear improvement is never a given.
  15. Viney needs games but at what expense. I am glad we kept him. I am not glad we kept him. he is that sort of player.
  16. Semanitics. We lost to a good side. I will stick by what I said. Going into next week commentators will say GWS are in form. Some like you may not. If however you are right that it was two teams in bad form it just further establishes what I said further. its over to Goody now to get us a crack at a flag as the season hots up at the business end.
  17. We lost to a good in form side. However the season is heating up. Well done Goody so far. You have surprised some of us. Congrats. Time to regroup, harden up, get selection right and have a red hot go at our best chance for nearly sixty years.
  18. Jones played well yesterday but got mid field time he will not get at top level. I think he has gone one year too long as a permanent fixture but would like his guts and determination in the last quarter of a tight GF.
  19. Surely we have a new episode for any future seies of Utopia. The opening scene would be at Goschs paddock as the best brains at MFC ponder for years and at great expense where to find an AFL standard training oval. Second scene would be at Casey where the same people ponder the same question while gazing at the Casey Oval.
  20. Have the goal posts on what constitutes a home base changed. Is it now just a ground extension and a few bells and whistles? we will have to wait and see.
  21. Fair enough, although I did not say his heart is not in it, just said he has other priorities in life. Nothing wrong with that. yes unfit and not strong enough in upper body. My memory at Kangas was he was dominating in a straight line between CHF and the centre. His deadly long kicking made that a difficult match up. Maybe the game styles generally have changed and our style is not suiting him so far. I hope it works out for him. He is a nice guy and we need a target..
  22. So the contradiction is on your mate here. I called it with BB last year when we were not having success. So did not wait until we had one average game to say it. Also called the president was a flim flam man who would never get us a home ground. Called Goody needed help and he got it and it has made an enormous difference. Happy with new president, coaching panel and how the team are playing.
  23. My last word ever on this site. I urge anyone feeling a combination of sad, teary lethargic, unhappy, overwhelmed, a feeling of worthlessness, using excessive alcohol or drugs to go to your doctor or contact an agency like beyond blue. I very nearly ended up like Danny. I had talked to a mate about where I was mentally. He had no tools or experience to help me other than offering mateship. So i battled on for two years It took three months in a clinic, and an expert to diagnose severe clinical depression which was treated with therapy and finely tuned medication to balance my chemical inbalance. See ya.
  24. Friends. never heard a women refer to a friend as a mate. You talk about fox footy, the boys club as if i should be impressed.
