  1. It has indeed been a long road for those of us who stated supporting just as we went into decline in the mid sixties. Those years were really odd, we still had Premiership stars like Tassie, Barry Bourke and others but were in fact going backwards. The 70s saw other Clubs like Richmond hit the jackpot with a young Tommy Hafey, a hard nosed administration and some recruiting gems. Barass was working his magic at a reguvitated Carlton, who again had a hard nosed administration and a rich recruiting zone. meanwhile planning was underway at North with a great admisitration and recruiting department. Essendon and Collingwood remained strong while Hawthorn were still under John Keneddy with a strong admisitration and a following division of Scott, Tuck and Matthews. The 80s rolled on and it took our best coach in my time, John Northey to get things rolling. And thats what he did, he rolled the dice and created an attacking style of play which took one of the best sides ever in the Hawks to kill the dream. We would go on to make one more GF under Danahier but we never were a chance. I now hold my breath, as I am not close to the powers that be and am constantly bewildered why everyday supporters have had a better feel for the playing list than those running the show. Still, maybe this year we are as good a chance as anyone else.

  3. One of the most stupid plans of all time. Why would Tassie people want want to be putting up their hands to have six teams and officials the minute they are free of this virus. Please show the modelling that says Tassie and WA will be out of lockdown before other States.
  4. Footy is a simple game AFL players train to play AFL Commandos train to be Commandos.
  5. Brian Wilson starred with us. Must have been a good environment at the time.
  6. Journeyman a worker or sports player who is reliable but not outstanding,. "a solid journeyman professional"
  7. The zone just means forwards have to work and run harder. Ours are mostly stationary, especially the smalls, and when they do lead it is usually just in a straight line for about 10 metres.
  8. Peter Weekes, I reckon he was a mid week/season signing, maybe from VFA Club, Prahran. We were being killed in the ruck by newer, taller ruckman like Len Thompson, the new ruck prototype, and I reckon Weeksey was 6.5 in the old. Not a giant but taller than blokes like Tassie Johnson who we played in the ruck for a while at about 6.2. Weeksey battled hard but was just that, another Demon battler.
  9. For as long as I can recall I have used an index relating to how many players short we are to being a good side. Typically it has been around six, much more in the lost years years and hovering around four in our finals years. I think we are now back to four to six based on our Eagles game. So, Spargo delist Hibberd, thanks for your contribution. ANB, gotta get past journeymen. Jetta, find a full time role at the Club Brown, a likely error. Tomlinson, a handyish pick up but not a wingman Keep one of the Macs, by having Oscar we fool ourselves into thinking we have the luxury of playing Tom as a permanent forward. Brayshaw, does not suit the modern game style-look to trade. SOME HOPE Look to Jackson, Sparrow, Rivers and others who the track watchers see. Must find away to get 2-3 more ready made players.
