  1. You now have we worried for the welfare of Nick Watson in the event we draft him
  2. I’d wanna go home too if someone near-doubled my salary
  3. Amazing the AFL let them trade them out if they were conditional
  4. Not sure how appealing our future 1st is with two end-of-1st round picks coming their way next year courtesy of AFL handout
  5. Have the MFC faithful not suffered enough this off-season?!
  6. Hope he likes to party. Too soon?
  7. Yep, that’s the play. Hopefully a flag in that period with him too. Sad it has unfolded like this. Tarnishes his premiership-hero status a touch for mine now.
  8. “The decision has kind of been made now by Melbourne, which I’m totally fine with, I’m happy I’m on an AFL list still,” Petty told Nine Adelaide. “I suppose at some stage I’d be open to a move back (home)… it is tough at times but my family are lucky enough, they can come over and see me a bit there. It is tough at times though.” Probably would’ve been easier just not saying anything Harry.
  9. Very simplistic to say all of those blokes play the same role, because they do not. Add to that Watson has more midfield upside than all of them (and goal smarts only equaled by Kossie in that group), which I would have thought is more of a need than replacing May in 2 - 3 years when you’re deep inside a premiership window.
  10. Watson and O’Sullivan flipped for mine based on needs (surely Dogs can’t risk having another bloke St Kilda players could potentially set alight).
  11. Will be claiming he forecasted the ‘Petty playing golf with Adelaide players’ shortly
  12. Nobody knows if this is right or wrong. If Taylor has a player he wants that won’t make it to 6 but would likely be there at 4 then he might decide to trade up but Melbourne have been pretty tight lipped on who we want (aside from obvious attempts to get closer to Reid at #1). We’re not trading up and shedding a future 1st without a specific player in mind.
  13. throw Petty an 8 year contract to really bait him
  14. Recruiting quality interstaters poses a risk… we’ve lost Hogan, Jackson, Thompson, the Wiz, maybe Petty and others in my lifetime. Not saying you don’t recruit kids from interstate (there are plenty that stay) but people on here fascinated with the idea of the two Tassie boys at the top end of this year’s draft - I can’t see anything but a lose/lose outcome from a Dees’ perspective… the lure of representing their state’s first ever side (+ the $$$) will be far more powerful than Harry Petty wanting to return to the city where he went to boarding school and where his sister plays netball.
  15. Is the growing consensus that we’re no longer realistically after pick 1 but rather packaging #6 & #11 for North’s #3 + something late to get Brown?
  16. I’m hearing the AFL are considering giving North another 1st round pick just to spice things up today. Unconfirmed though.
  17. North are inept but they’re not that inept that they trade away pick 3 for an upgrade in the teens
  18. Makes sense in that the dogs want backs/Dees want forwards but there is a material difference in their market value, surely…
  19. Slowly getting the hang of trade-time-list-manager-code: “I don’t want to go into the specifics” = we know less than the public know “We haven’t spoken to any other clubs about him” = lots of cryptic texts though, often with an overuse of the word ‘mate’ to cleverly disguise the fact I hate all other list managers “He’s a required player” = problem child trying to escape, asked the fitness guys to give him a torturing off-season plan to teach him a lesson “Contracted/not going anywhere” = we’re going to make you pay through the nose for him “We’ll sit down with his manager” = player has cracked the sads and isn’t responding to our calls/text messages and has left the team WhatsApp chat “We think he has a strong future ahead of him” - bloke is a jet and we can’t believe those muppets gave him to us for peanuts “Happy for him to explore his options” = happily take a future 9th round pick for him “We’ve got a strong draft hand” = I’ve done my job, don’t f*#% it up recruitment team “We’ll sit down with Essendon over the next week and have some sensible conversations” - Dodoro is the worst bloke I’ve ever met and this deal will not get done
  20. Perceived value of pick 1 is significantly higher this year with Reid. Not saying it should be, but it is.
  21. Melbourne would do that in a heartbeat. West Coast would hang the phone up. We’d need to throw in a future 1st on top of that at a minimum
  22. Truth is he butchers the ball in front of goal and has only kicked more than 20 goals in a season once in a 10 year career. A bit like Harley Bennell for me - everyone is seduced by the ‘potential’ but the reality is this bloke has been around for a long time and done bugger all…
  23. We’re not getting anything near 11 for Grundy, that was obvious even before Sydney offered pick 40-something.
  24. I had said in another thread that there is just no way this guy plays anywhere else but the fact he happily told Josh Jenkins - who he knew would share it on radio - there was issues/deadlock in negotiations suggests to me he is either trying to force Geelong’s hand or soften the impact for Cats supporters if he were to leave. I hope the latter - we would be a better side with him in it next year.
