The Tom McDonald dilemma
Bringing BBB and Weed in together is too big a change imv. Our attack is ranked sixth in the league on points scored, and if we had kicked straighter we would be a lot higher than that. Suddenly bringing in two marking forwards would completely change the dynamic, and against the top team…? One or the other, to replace Mitch Brown, is the way to go. When Frisch is ready and Jones had his 300, the change is obvious.

Chunky
I agree with both of you. He should put his hand up and ask for a couple of weeks off “managed”, then play his 300th in a home game at the G against Sydney, and then retire. It was interesting in the Best 22 thread how few people had him in it - and apparently Goody agrees.

Fritsch Out for 2 Weeks with Fractured Hand
That is a big out! Very hard player to replace, and in terrific form...

Clayton Oliver Re-Signs Until 2023
Outstanding news! And how incredible, watching him play and remembering is much he has done already - and he’s only 23!!

Loan System for Players to Swap Clubs
What a crock. How do you barrack against your own player?

CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Totally agree. After Greene’s second goal, they showed the overhead vision. The GWS player that ran past for a handball and delivered long to Greene was being “chased” by Jones at a half-hearted jog. He does it all the time. Can anyone imagine him sprinting to intercept? - as Kossi did on that kick-in?

CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Geelong
I truly hope they don’t sit on their laurels with no change. Sparrow didn’t do much, Nev Jetta is really struggling, and I guess they’ll keep Jones until his 300 but then he should retire. I can’t stand watching him just jogging when the other team has the ball.

TRAINING: Thursday 1st April 2021
Some people dread taking an important kick for goal – e.g. Eishold, last quarter, 1987 prelim. Others absolutely love it and turn from being pretty accurate to being certainties when the moment calls for it -Jakovich was like that. So I say: Kossie.

NON MFC: Rd 03 2021
How on earth did Harris Andrew’s beat Steven May for AA last year??!!

Your Top 5 Demons Players of All Time
Flower, Schwarz, Warren Dean (briefly, until his knee played up), Barassi, Oliver and I have to add a sixth: Wight.

NON MFC: Rd 02 2021
Bingers, you’ve got it half right -you are right about the 720 degrees but THEN he handed - not hand balled- the ball to Selwood: goal.

2021 Injury List
I don’t understand the theory about keeping them guessing. if the opposition finds out at the last minute that a player is out and being replaced by a lesser player, how does that help us? It would surely lift their morale. And if the injured player is being replaced by a better player: wouldn’t that happen anyway, regardless of the injury.

2021 Injury List
How crap is the MFC website!? Burgo gives the injury report, quite obviously wasn’t going to talk about Harmes until word got out and then they inserted a section which talks about him. Typical of the website – keep the supporters completely in the dark if they possibly can.

Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
Some people in this thread think he’s not in our top five players. He’s actually come in the top 10 in the coaches award twice. By my reckoning, that puts him in at least the top 20 players in the league. IMH0 he is the best inside mid we’ve had since Barassi. We have to keep him.

POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs Fremantle
Well, I was at the game, and there are certainly were a lot of mistakes. But it seemed to me that they are trying out a new game plan around the midfield: trying to hold the ball a bit longer and work really hard to get it outside. It’s not completely working yet and I think that’s why we got beaten up the clearances, but it might be a good plan in the long term. Absolutely great to see Jetta back in formed and as everyone has commented, May and Lever were unbelievable. But so many whingers: do you actually barrack for this team or not?

GAMEDAY: Practice Match vs Bulldogs
Well, Lever is certainly playing like the player we hoped he would be!

Bruce McAvaney Retires
If they were smart they would use Daisy Pearce more. IMHO One of the most perceptive commentators I’ve heard.

Clayton Oliver 100 Games Round 1 2021 vs FREO
IIRC, 2 Brownlow votes in his first game. My Demonland name says what I think.

Manning the Mark Rule Change
The really bad thing about this rule change and all rule changes is the AFL never never never never NEVER admits they got it wrong - eg nominating a ruckman.

2021 Champion Data Elite Players
Neither does Ben Brown but he isn’t on the list.

AFLW: Rd 01 vs Gold Coast
In the media reports, Daisy Pearce is not amongst our best players. Ridiculous! Looks like, like Robbie flower, she will be the victim of expectations that she will play like a champion each week so when she does, it is not even noticed.

James Frawley Retires... And Starts Playing Again
As supporters we are all loyal. But how can we expect our players to feel like we do, when clubs give no loyalty to their players: look at OMac and the attempts to get rid of his brother. It starts with the draft, when a young man is recruited regardless of who he barracks for wants to play for. And on this site I have seen it seriously suggested that we get rid of Gawn, FFS! So where is loyalty supposed to come from? As I remember it, in an attempt to tank we once played Chip on the forward line, making him look, and no doubt feel, foolish. I don’t blame him leaving for greener pastures. The club’s job is to make OUR pastures green enough. And we should try to convince our players that one-club players get something in tangible in terms of the love of their supporters. That is an attractive asset, it seems to me,

Drop Kicks
I love that grand final footage. I am definitely an old timer and while the skill in the modern game is fantastic, the haphazard kicking back then meant there was a real contest in each position between players, and that was a delight to watch. As for long goals, I can remember Bryan Kenneally taking the ball from a centre bounce ruck contest at the G, running four or five steps and kicking a goal with a torpedo.

Robert Flower - 20 Great Goals (can never get enough of our Robbie)
Love reading all of this. People describe Barassi and Flower so well. I saw a lot of Flower, a little bit of Barassi and everything I’ve read, I agree with.

Robert Flower - 20 Great Goals (can never get enough of our Robbie)
Ps I was there when he kicked that goal against Collingwood, blind turning to avoid getting nailed as he got the ball. Totally freakish.
