Unfortunately AFL is a corporate beast and with that comes the behaviours of that beast. Ethics and morals barely exist, if at all. It’s money and power and you either play the game or end up like Essendon. We have to play the game as it’s only going to get worse.

That’s exactly his role on this Forum. He’s actually quite chirpy atm. Is it Grumpy or just a dry humour? I see it as dry humour and enjoy the posts. You can’t deny that neither Flanders nor Derksen change the dial.

That’s the problem I see with the process. The Board will lean Buckley because he’s the safest bet and he can likely stabilise and build the Brand…..corporate bullsith for covering our inability to grow the club successfully since winning a Flag. I’d love Buckley doing Richardson’s job or the new overseer role but give me the next best coach amongst the next wave. Do I sound like a broken record? 🙃

Just select anyone but the mediocre ex Collingwood coach who hasn’t coached a team since he was sacked in 21. I just don’t get the love, I think most of you just hear he’s the favourite and rally behind him in hope it’ll all work out.

If in fact we do get swiped at more than others maybe it’s because we continually look incompetent. We had a chance to reset the narrative about our club in 21 but here we are, having lurched from one drama to another whilst sliding down the ladder and we still don’t even have a comms team capable of spelling. Let’s just hope with the new people arriving, a home base getting locked away and a reasonably strong list that we can stick some positive clicks into the media spin. I remain doggedly upbeat……most of the time!

I was coming back from the country on a bus. I had to crouch on my seat as the speaker was in the roof and reception was poor. When we jumped in the cab at the bus depot in Melbourne all over the cabbies radio they were barracking for Melbourne. We arrived home at my mates house and listened to the last 15 or so minutes on the radio. The rest is history. I must have watched the vhs 25 times at least. What a month of footy that was.

There’s no way we’re as fit as we need to be. I presume there’s more than just Griffith’s in charge of this but the buck surely stops with him. I’d be hoping the new coach demands a higher return.

The main argument on here for recruiting Buckley seems to be he’ll help across the entire organisation. I’m hoping Guerra, Smith and co will take care of their roles and the coach we employ takes care of what he’s employed to do. Surely we’re beyond needing to be saved again. If we’re not then it really is a matter of “here we go again” no matter who we employ. For mine you get the hungry assistant with the ideas on the future of the game, you then surround them with good people and back them in, holding them to account along the way. You don’t get the big name guy from the media who hasn’t been coaching at any level for 5 years and likely doesn’t want to be coaching in 10. I will of course deny all doubts I had and hail him as the next great coach should he land the role.

If we’re now sacking and appointing coaches because of “commercial realities” then that’s exactly why we remain in the bottom tier of clubs. Serious organisation’s set their own “commercial realities” Our club hasn’t done that. Board squabbles through to 2 of our marquee players going off piste have left us here, having sacked a coach and now seemingly on the verge of appointing an ex coach who’s been out of the game for the best part of 5 years. In my eyes largely because he’s seen as having the respect to pull our whole club together. If he really is the standout applicant then fine but I don’t think he is or at least I really hope there’s someone on that list who’s better than him.
