I tend to agree that Gawn has run his race. We fell back into a team of individuals since the flag and that is Gawn and Goodwin’s biggest failing. If I were King I’d be stamping TEAM on the forehead of the next Captain.

That’s not our best starting midfield. Viney or Steele make way for Langford. We need to get Humphrey or Butters in there.

He likely won’t wash his Endone down with a nice glass of red wine.

Guerra needs to explain how we allowed these clowns on our sponsorship roster. He likely then needs to remove them. Not a great look. It still remains to be seen to be seen if all the talk can translate. I really hope it can because his role is so important to how we progress from here.

Interesting to note that Freo were the worst for marks inside 50 yet apparently they have some of the best marking key forwards in the game. With Oliver and Petracca gone I’ve no doubt we’ll be looking to vastly improve our kicking patterns inside 50. It’s been our Achilles heal as has been discussed here for 3 years.

Buckley was never the right choice. IMO he had“come save us Nathan” vibes all over him, which is the last thing this club needed. My remaining concerns lie around Guerra. Is he going to be the strong guiding hand we desperately need in that position? King certainly appears to have attracted some great coaching talent to the club and as you say he’s done it in a way to allow us to do it on a beer budget. Along with the addition of guys like Mihochek and Steele we’ve got great on field leaders to support a pretty talented group of youngsters. On top of that although Goodwin wasn’t perfect he didn’t insist on trading out our picks over the last few years and you have to respect him for that.

Over a billion dollars for a 23,000 seat stadium is a nonsense imo. I do lean heavily away from big d**k projects as almost always there’s a smarter, cheaper and better way to do these things. From toll roads, to tunnels to stadiums rarely are the public not getting rolled for corporate profits.

Interesting to hear our upbeat CEO talk about this in coming days.

A government bereft of good ideas and foresight. It used to be Gunns fleecing the State of money and resources, now it’s the Salmon Farms and the AFL.

I’m really hoping King has his own ideas on how to evolve the game to get the best out of our list. If he’s cut and pasting a current model we’re already playing catchup. Remember he’s likely/hopefully planning for us to be seriously competitive and playing with a competitive advantage at a point in the future. I’d imagine he’s looking at Brisbane and Hawthorn and thinking how do we beat them as well as getting ahead of the chasing pack. At the end of the day a Prelim final is a high pressure contest and defence game.

As is the way, pessimism certainly starts to lift when you think of the possibilities that exist next season. I’m not expecting much but won’t be surprised if we give 6- 10th place a shake. I feel a strong start and finish but a fairly ordinary deep winter patch.

Solid first few training reports peeps. I’m in the middle of moving so the distraction of training reports is excellent for my procrastination.
