  1. They're Australians. They are entitled to come home. I don't understand why the hotels selected to use for quarantine are in the middle of our largest cities. Go regional. We also have Christmas island which can do the job. And as for having a quarantine hotel at an international airport. the mind boggles.
  2. I thought it was a poor game last night and i'm definitely not on the Sydney bandwagon after that performance. Heeney a huge out. I rate him highly so not sorry he'll miss our game (hopefully he's back for the game after they play us). Hopefully Buddy needs to be managed and won't play us either. He man handled Francis a few times last night. He'll be a handful and a big threat. Stevie May will earn his pay packet that week for sure.
  3. As a supporter there is no better feeling that switching on the game and knowing your team will give their all. We can’t really ask for any more than that. The coaching team and senior players, Paxy, Daisy et al deserve an enormous amount of praise for creating this culture. It is a rare and wonderful thing. I’m a big fan of AFLW. No ego’s. Honest effort. No bad attitudes. And skills are improving every year. I’ve no problem paying the women more if it allows the comp to expand, extend the season and attracts more talent to the ranks. As for the game this weekend I reckon Adelaide will shade it but I know it won’t be for wont of effort if we lose.
  4. The standard of goal kicking is poor across the league no matter what the conditions. I saw a clip of Ross Lyon recently discussing this. Said the players need to take more responsibility for their technique. They need to practice more in their own time as there in not enough time during alotted training sessions to properly hone this skill. I’ve seen players out and about training at various spots around my locality over the years. Never once have they been practicing goal kicking. I’m no expert and will defer to more knowledgeable posters but I would have thought that there are fundamentals of technique that apply no matter what the circumstances which you adjust to account for whatever the conditions are on gameday.
  5. A lot of rubbish hand balling in this game
  6. First game i've seen sydney play this season. What was all the hype about?
  7. Didn’t realise Hibbo was a lock down defender. Jetta stays in. I also don’t recall Melks ever being much of a pressure player either. His strength has always been clean, penetrating delivery into our forward line which he didn’t do last year. Maybe the game has evolved and we can’t carry a player who doesn’t apply enough pressure anymore but I would have though his skillset is want is required to unpick a congested Geelong defence. My concern is his sharpness. If he’s off the pace he’s pretty much useless. I’ll leave it to the brains trust to make the call but it’s a toss of the coin between Melks and Sparrow for mine.
  8. The Bombers have won a game against the hapless saints and i'm already hearing about the great young talent they have. Hoping Sydney throttle them tonight.
  9. Most soccer leagues around the world permit as well as the EPL. Definitely all the European leagues In the UK - Rugby league, rugby union and County Cricket. It’s not done in the US other than in Ice Hockey. The IPL have recently introduced a loan system.
  10. Correct. UEFA prohibits them but most national associations permit e.g. EPL. So a parent club could face a player they have loaned to a European club in a UEFA competition but not in domestic competition. The AFL are free to set their own rules anyways
  11. A lot of posters are over thinking this? Parent club has a recall option and host club a return option. If at any point the loan is not working for either party for any reason the loan is terminated. In your example, if Jackson is injured we recall the Weid straight away. Loans happen all the time in other sports. Absolutely no reason why they can't work in AFL. As long as the arrangement is mutually beneficial to both parties.
  12. You'd have the option to recall the player. No team would be expected to strenghten a direct rival at their own expense.
  13. It'll be a term of the loan that the player won't play against their parent club. That's how it works in soccer. The loan player is too conflicted so their is a chance he won't play to potential although their was a famous case in the champions league about 20 years or so ago when Fernando Morientes was on loan to Monaco but ended up knocking his parent club, Real Madrid, out of the comp. Real were widely mocked for not inserting the clause. https://thesefootballtimes.co/2020/02/17/fernando-morientes-and-the-haunting-of-real-madrid/
  14. Great to hear BB is moving well. What of the Weid? Any sighting?
  15. We're missing the winning premierships bit (we live in hope), but yeah, things are running smoothly at the moment.
  16. They do so the key is to bring the ball to ground and let Kossie, Spargo and Nibbler do the rest. We did it pretty well against the Giants so hopefully we can replicate against the cats.
  17. So how do we get beyond that? The notion that accusers should always be believed won't cut it. People lie all the time. Whats to stop someone emerging from your past to make a false accusation. What defence would you use in such a scenario. There has to be corroborating evidence. I have no idea what the the answer is by the way
  18. It would be fantastic. Now I’m feeling very conflicted. I’ll have to cheer for the pies to beat the Lions. Very discombobulating.
  19. Why can't these people come forward and get him convicted then? I can understand the reticence back in the day. the Catholic church was a powerful institution so i can completely understand the fear of not being believed and the ostracisation that would follow. But not now. The church is very diminished. Plenty of priests have gone to prison. There has been a royal commission and the redress scheme is in place. They should come forward and provide the sworn evidence otherwise its just more tittle tattle.
  20. So it begins. I was hoping to keep a lid on it for a while longer yet.
  21. I reckon Deebrief and Demonland have me covered for the Dees but for quality insights for non-Dees related footy what would you recommend. I pretty much live on you tube consuming independent media and watching podcasts. The print media and traditional TV have had their day. The same faces, saying the same things. On the couch is the only show i watch on Kayo. AFL360 only when Dees are featured (e.g. Petracca last night). I don't know how normal, sentient begins can listen to Robbo. I rarely listen to the commentary. Over the top hyperbole. I listened to the GWS commentary and didn't mind it too much. AFLW commentary is usually very good although I see they've started to include [censored] heads like Will Schofield.
  22. Only seen Moore v Carlton and he let McKay off the chain. Very difficult to play intercept role and take the No.1 forward for the opposition. It's a tall order if that's what the coaching brains trust at collingwood expect from him. Lever has been pretty good so far. What the chances both May and Lever make the team? It would be some effort if they both managed it.
  23. Hoping that free kick differential continues to head south for Geelong for at least 1 more week.
