  1. umps are being kind to the Lions tonight
  2. Never a freekick to Wardlaw but regardless the Lions look the better team. They have much more outside run than the Crows
  3. I dislike the Crows AFLW team but I sure hope they win tonight And in terms of venue, if a suitable venue was not available in Victoria, and I don't consider Casey is appropriate for AFLW grand final, I would acquiesce to play inter-state. Inter-state mens teams play the granny at G so no reason why it should be any different for AFLW. The Lions should understand that as well
  4. Fritta is unlucky not to have picked up an AA jacket the past 2 years. I agree with @layzie that the criticism of him during the year was not totally unwarranted but for some reason the media latched onto it and turned into something much bigger than it actually was Reckon he'll kick 60 this year and get that AA jacket he deserves. and hopefully another premiership medallion to go along with it
  5. Brad Johnson is a great bloke but he offers very little in the way of insightful analysis. Of the many problems we had to deal with last year Fritta was well down the list
  6. I can't believe the Lions are seriously considering Cairns or Townsville. And I can't believe the AFL will go along with it The final needs to be played at a proper venue befitting the occasion. Playing the final at a second-rate regional venue totally devalues the game. The Lions should hang their head in shame if they follow through with this. No sense of occasion or respect for the competition at all.
  7. Anywhere is better than Cairns Outside of Brisbane, the Lions have most supporters in Melbourne. There mens team beat us down here, and the women have previously won a granny on the road in Adelaide. They can win away from QLD. I don't think playing the granny here disadvantages them that much. And like you said earlier, why didn't the Lions foresee this and have arrangements in place For the prestige and credibility of the comp the granny has to played in Melbourne. Cairns would be a farcical choice
  8. I reckon it suits him. Has a marauding barbarian look to it
  9. Great time. Take in the game, enjoy some beers afterwards and still be home in time for dinner Feels like a long time since I attended a Saturday afternoon game. I'm looking forward to it
  10. 4 best teams made it through the prelims I didn't see the North game today, but the winning margin and heavy scoring suggests we'll need to bring our A game next week. they will be no push over
  11. Water pollo in Adelaide. I doubt we'll see another goal for the rest of the game. Atrocious conditions
  12. Take best available unless you’re dealing with a Horne-Francis type. If they decide to leave get the best deal you can And they all can’t stay in their home state. 10 clubs are based in vic so you’re going to have plenty of interstaters here regardless
  13. It's an extra round of meaningful footy so not all bad. I know this is money motivated, but I'll give it a chance If prices are reasonable, unlikely I know, I might head over for that weekend
  14. From what i can tell she's good at photo opportunities and not much else
  15. All round fantastic player Except for his goal kicking. Hard to fathom why it's so bad.
  16. I wouldn't mind heading to Adeliade for the weekend except the prices for everything will be through the roof And in terms of location wouldn't it be better to select a host city in a state you're trying to grow the game. Or Sydney or Brisbane to stick it to the NRL. I suppose the main reason Adelaide was chosen is because they offered the most money to host
  17. I reckon its great having footy to watch this time of year and good footy at that (Geelong North game aside. That was terrible) The crowds will go, the interest is there. In year one the attendances were high but have tapered off since. The new teams are getting higher crowds than the average as well I think the expansion has happened too quickly and diluted the overall quality. There are some very poor teams in the comp and the difference between top and bottom is a chasm. Maybe the trade off / thinking was getting as many teams up and running which would influence the overall population of girls / women playing the game. Not sure, but I reckon a smaller 10 team comp would draw bigger crowds as the standard would be higher. And yes, the AFL doesn't have a coherent plan. How can you not know where the final is going to be in a few weeks' time.
  18. What about the rest of the coaching team? Yze is the next AFL senior coach in waiting. Wasn’t he effectively game day coach. Surely he bears some responsibility as well.
  19. Can you imagine the uproar on DL if the men lose a game after the players were seen laughing and joking!
  20. I think he went rogue. Should have stayed stum. If the pitch got damaged and wasn’t fit for purpose come test match time cricket Australia would be roasted. No way they were taking the chance
  21. this seems like a plausible scenario. I know these things can be a slow burn but it’s been so long since we embarked on this mcg precinct plan I can’t think but assume something had gone awry. I would rather we admit failure and move on to another option than hope for a miracle
  22. I wouldn’t swap Purcell or hanks for any other player on that list other than Conti. She’s a gun together with bannan and gilliard (I reckon she’ll be a great player) we have some real elite young talent. Even though we’ll lose paxy and daisy soon enough I think the side is well future proofed
  23. The game was never a chance of getting the go ahead at the Gabba. You can’t have a football game on a pitch that will be hosting first class and test cricket. Brisbane can use the Richmond decision as a basis to play the game at a small qld ground. Afl can’t say no. amateur hour at afl HQ
