  1. Fair amount of chatter around that Aish is Hawthorn bound. Paul Connors confirmed Collingwood are no longer in the running. HIs silence on his future may have a lot to do with his prospective employer's involvement in finals footy. For all the debate on Aish's trade worth, the Hawk's first rounder is probably around the mark. If they were feeling extra generous, they could throw Suckling into the deal so any Leuenberger compensation isn't diluted. EDIT: Insert Grimley for Suckling and we may have the formulation of the deal.
  2. Don't think so. Was always a reach at pick 25, more athlete than footballer and didn't really handle the step up to senior footy. Mason Shaw a better option of the delisted talls.
  3. Yep. Although Stringer's coming along pretty nicely too.
  4. That's pretty much where I sit with it, especially if we're offering ball park 400 p/a for him (unsubstantiated). Who knows, maybe we are playing a long game with Brad and starting by luring Matt?
  5. Apparently Matt Crouch is the latest player that we've been linked with. Saints and Tigers in as well. One club is supposedly offering big dollars (and it's not St Kilda).
  6. Thanks for sharing GD, enjoy Bali (sounds like you've made a good start!).
  7. Think fans were a little uncertain at the very least. Pick 23 was a pretty decent pick in that draft and Bernie's numbers at Adelaide had been in decline since his B&F year. Change in role played a part, but I don't think anyone thought his form would be as good as it has been. Bernie only had one better year in his Adelaide career than what he's produced for us this year and last. FWIW Hartung, Lewy Taylor and Zach Merrett were all still on the board at pick 23.

Might have just come down to who could crack it for some AFL games this year. Butcher was fit and available and played a few games, Shaw was injured.

Squeezed out due to Ryder and Dixon additions. Injuries have hurt too. Didn't quite have the Championships that he was expected to have in '12, but his ability was still rated highly. http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/117082/Mason-SHAW
  10. For the security of a 4 year contract, he may well be. Wonder if any of the clubs selecting before us in the PSD would have any interest. Doubt the interstaters would and Carlton may try and force Carlisle into the PSD.
  11. Wonder if Andrew Moore has ever appealed to our recruiting team. Like his size and right now he holds more appeal to me than Jake Melksham. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/tough-journey-and-swan-josh-kennedy-inspiring-power-onballer-andrew-moores-search-for-greatness/story-fnia6ojc-1227017126885

  13. Maybe an internal communication breakdown at the Giants. In reply to GWS tweet: Damian Barrett ‏@barrettdamian 1h1 hour ago Just so everyone is clear. When asked today, McCarthy's manager said: "He (McCarthy) has requested to be traded back to WA." On the record
  14. Didn't Barrett report that there was interest in Walker which may form part of Henderson deal? Walker would be a handy fwd/ruck foil for Hogan
  15. Any inkling as to who the target(s) at Sydney might be? JPK again?
  16. Would be a decent pick up. Good size and can play a role off a flank or in midfield. Was a Melbourne supporter.
  17. AFL.com's trade whispers. Has us interested in Redden and Bennell and GWS as retaining an interest in Howe. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-04/trade-whispers-leuenberger-smith-in-giants-sights?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News
  18. Brett Anderson on the Giants trade assets: http://www.sen.com.au/news/08-15/giants-hold-all-the-aces
  19. I'm not sure that Stevie J is the direction we're going toward, and tbh I'm not sure we're the direction he's moving toward. I'd imagine he'd take less to play for a contender, and there are a couple where he'd fit in pretty well. We're better off backing in Petracca, JKH and Kent for our forward line next year.
  20. Other aspect of that same article was that not only is Jack Redden considering departing, but Brisbane are shopping him. I suspect they believe he'll walk in free agency and will try to get something for him now rather than bank on getting reasonable FA compo.
  21. Plowman's had a few injury issues including spending the first 11 rounds out with an elbow injury (dislocation?), so hasn't had a real clean run at it. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-05-28/raiding-the-lost-and-injured-giants We rated him extremely highly in 2012, and despite him missing most of his draft year with injury, was still in consideration deep into our process. Can play tall as well as play that rebounding half back role, but a lot of recruiter's saw his future as a big bodied midfielder. Rumours were that Richmond were heavily courting Plowman, but they've also been chasing high calibre midfield targets, which may have dropped Plowman down on their priority list. I believe Plowman's under contract, but GWS will be expecting to lose some fringe players (regardless of where they were drafted) to balance out their draft point totals when their academy players are bid upon with high selections. Trading out a couple will allow them to stay in the draft next year (when they have arguably even better talent coming through their academy). FWIW, here's Callum Twomey's write up from AFL.com's phantom draft in '12: 3. Greater Western Sydney - Lachie Plowman
Height: 192cm Weight: 84kg DOB: 11/09/94 Club: Calder Cannons Draft range: 3-12 If not for a serious elbow injury in May, most would have Plowman ranked this highly without any questions. The rebounding, tough and creative defender was in flying form for the Calder Cannons at the start of the year before jumping for a mark and landing on his arm, dislocating his elbow and tearing a ligament. He had surgery, and missed almost four months, including the championships. But the 18-year-old is an excellent pick for the Giants, who need to shore up their list with a few more defenders. As well as being courageous in the air and competitive when the ball hits the ground, his foot skills are terrific and he can control a game from half-back. In the mix: Western Bulldogs. The Giants could pass, and although he's a chance for the Demons, they might prefer a midfielder. He could even get through to GWS at pick 12, although that's unlikely.
  22. Not eligible for F/A yet, out of contract. So either trade or walk into the draft. The general belief is that Howe wants to go elsewhere.
  23. Yep. Also think that the only move he'll make will be to Qld. Lions might have hoped to get him in as part of a deal for Aish, but sounds like Aish will get to Collingwood.
  24. Almost on cue, Menzel mentioned as being a possibility to move: http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/tom-bell-could-join-lachie-henderson-in-leaving-carlton-this-trade-window/story-e6frf3e3-1227491606714
  25. Haha, don't recall reading the Sylvia comparisons, but if they were referring to his off field exploits then fair enough.
