  1. I think he'd be well worthy looking at, and may not be costly. Talented & pacy.
  2. A good year for it with such a shallow draft pool this year.
  3. Along with Bennell, apparently one of the GCS players for whom football gets in the way of having a good time.
  4. Plenty of chatter that Aish prefers the move to Victoria.
  5. It's a very narrow sample, and Aish clearly has been under performing this year. Even if you extrapolate it across their careers to date you're comparing 24 games against 27, and over that sample Aish's stats surpass Jimmy's (17 possessions per game for Aish vs 13 pg for JT, 3.3 tackles pg v 2.3). I agree that their game styles have similarities, one thing Aish does much better than Jimmy is show composure under pressure. He is much better in traffic and has very good awareness. I'd say there is room for two outside midfielders of their type in the same side. Would give us another quality distributer in midfield, which is an absolute need for us. Also admire that he stuck it out to play out a significant portion of his last game (to date) with a broken jaw.
  6. Same, though I think you have to explore all available options. Prestia's under contract, so theoretically is unavailable. Aish is OOC and seemingly has one foot out of Brisbane.
  7. Same, but what would you pay for him? I'd like Curtly Hampton as a possible cheaper option from GWS.
  8. Don't think we'll be in the final mix for Treloar, but think we're a great shot at Aish. Plenty of suitors abound, but with so many names flying around, we should be a chance at landing someone: http://www.news.com.au/national/geelong-targets-patrick-dangerfield-and-lachie-henderson-with-bombshell-13m-lure/story-e6frfkp9-1227390329237
  9. I thought he was probably the best available mid in 2013.This was my long winded report on him at the time. After a good first year at AFL, I still think most of this holds true. Worth noting that he did show that he was able to win his own ball last year: James Aish โ€“ With a combination of ability and exposed form (and perhaps bloodlines), Aish is the best all round midfielder in the 2013 draft pool. His composure and decision making is in the rare category. Aishโ€™s ability to sum up the situation and take the longest amount of time available to pick the right option often creates space for players around him, as well as bringing teammates into the game. He appears to be very unselfish on field, often choosing to set teammates up rather than shoot on goal, and when tagged at the championships, often worked hard to contribute in other areas (1%โ€™s, defensive efforts), which is an extremely positive response and indicates a high level of maturity. He reads the play very well, which allows him to make good position to take intercept marks The game often looks like it is moving in slow motion when Aish has the ball in hand and his vision and the way he appears to see the field and movement in front of him is reminiscent of an NFL quarterback. Whilst his kick may not be absolutely elite, itโ€™s at a high enough level to capitalise on his decision making capability, and he distributes at an extremely high rate of efficiency. Aish is highly competent on both sides of his body. He likes to run and carry and will take the game on and initially may be better suited to starting as a creative half back at AFL level. He can win his own ball, but will need to add substantial size to his frame before moving into an ongoing midfield role, and in my opinion is the one major question mark against him. Does he have the body to put on sufficient size to be an AFL midfielder? He certainly wonโ€™t ever be a bash and crash inside player, but his composure in traffic and ability to read the ball off hands leads me to believe that he will be able to play that role in the future as his body develops. Two years of experience and strong performances at SANFL level on the wing for a very successful Norwood side will help his transition, and I can see him playing 10+ games in his first AFL season.
  10. Pretty good descriptions of the players on Rahul Satish's phantom draft on the Mad Monday Show site: http://madmondayshow.com/2014/11/25/rahuls-phantom-draft/
  11. I agree that Petracca has Lever covered, though not necessarily by a great margin. Lever likely settles in as a rebounding half back, and I believe we absolutely need a young half back to supersede Terlich and possibly Grimes. Our depth there isnโ€™t great, and the ones we do have arenโ€™t known for setting up attacking play from half back. That said, Petracca/McCartin and Brayshaw have my votes for 2 & 3.
  12. Posted this in the other draft thread, relevant here too: 3AW Football โ€@3AWisfootball 7m 7 minutes ago .@sam_mcclure says McCartin to be #1 on Thurs ahead of Petracca as 'some of Petracca's testing hasn't been at the expectation of a #1 pick'
  13. Just up on Twitter: 3AW Football โ€@3AWisfootball 7m 7 minutes ago .@sam_mcclure says McCartin to be #1 on Thurs ahead of Petracca as 'some of Petracca's testing hasn't been at the expectation of a #1 pick'
  14. Had a go at ranking 50 or so of the eligible (and available) kids in the pool. Could only fit the first 38 or at the first attempt, might put the remaining up tonight. The rankings aren't necessarily an indicator of where I would take them, more of what each player brings to the table: http://chaserj.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/2014-draftee-rankings.html#!/2014/11/2014-draftee-rankings.html
  15. SEN have published Brett Andersons mock draft from the Inside Footy draft special (which hit the newsstands today): Mock Draft.
  16. Don't know about more informed, but from what I've seen at TAC Cup level and the champs, I'd say you're spot on. Less absolutely outstanding talent at the top of the draft, but runs deeper (for AFL calibre players) than previous years. It's as even as I can remember and I absolutely think there will be pretty good talent available at pick 53.
  17. I donโ€™t like making judgements based just on a highlights package, but I liked what I saw of Jermaine Miller-Lewisโ€™ highlight reel on the AFL draft hub. Was in the academy squad and another who would have been rated quite high, but has spent the year injured. Donโ€™t know if he gets picked up this year, but could be a worth a rookie pick. Have seen a bit of Nathan Drummond, would be very happy to take him at 53 if we take it to the draft.
  18. Paige has `done some recruiting work for Port, would imagine she'd have some insight on Bampton either first or at least second hand.I think you've hit the nail on the head in terms of the SA kids relatively mediocre draft status.
  19. Add Jake Lever to the mix. Apparently we're big fans and more likely to take him over McCartin if we take both picks to the draft.
  20. Anyone watching the Northern AllStars v Aus Academy game? The curtain raiser for the GF being streamed on AFL.com. Good kids on show for this years and next years draft.
  21. Cheers mate, appreciate that. Interesting that his acceleration isnโ€™t great. Probably a must for a player of his type. Is his pace reasonable in the open? Sounds like he could be a Roosy project type.
  22. A penny for your thoughts on Josh Deluca, PSD. Looks like heโ€™s had a good finish to the season, sounds like he should be in the mix with McLean and Lonie as draftable small forwards this year.
  23. I'd be more than happy with that outcome. Both are fine players and would slot in nicely both in terms of ability and mentality.
  24. Essendon have an end of first rd compo for being drug cheats (part of penalty negotiated with AFL) and GWS got a compo pick traded back to them which they have activated for this years draft. It is likely a comp that was originally given to a club for having a player poached by GWS in the first place.
  25. I think the current philosophy at the club is overall improvement of the list without fixating on one player being the saviour of the club. It's why the top pick as well as virtually everyone on the list is on the table.
