2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Getting a cluster of talent in one draft (especially if all can be integrated relatively quickly) is critical to contending. Our list was built around the cluster we brought in 2014 and that demographic and boosted by 2019. 2014's cluster is now depleted, but if we can get (at least) 3 very good players in together this year (to add to Windsor & Kolt last year), we could have another spike. That came through a little with Gawnie's speech last night about the journey and how even 2019, which was [censored] at the time, was an important step in setting us up for the premiership. We've had a horrible year, but the old adage of never wasting a crisis will be very much at play for our list management team.

Slightly surprised that Kako’ linked at 6, but maybe there’s a bit of NGA angst being released there. He is a talent and has kicked some freakish goals this season. Happy to make Essendon pay up, and I suspect they will, small forward position is a glaring hole in their list. Let’s see if we hear about any potential pick swap deals the Bombers are linked to. I know Bombers fans started panicking when Saints got band 1 compo. If we are indeed interested in adding a quality small, maybe Joe Berry comes into the mix if we grab a second 1st round pick as well. Also, good to see we have interest in Cooper Hynes, his range looks like being roughly where the ANB pick would be. If our selections move in those general directions, we would certainly go some way to addressing our forward half connection issues.

Journos were talking about Geelong’s belief that Clarry could be levered out during the season, so they may been some degree of contact well before now. Sammy Edmund suggested Clarry’s behaviour on Brownlow night wasn’t viewed positively. Not a long bow to surmise that the club gave him prompt feedback (or attempted to), Clarry didn’t appreciate this and subsequently met with Cats, which in turn led to Pert calling clubs later that week.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Don’t think we did shop him to Cats. Cats have been lurking for some time, when Clarry had an initial meeting with Cats (which is what apparently surprised the Dees) Pert spoke to other clubs to see if there was a market. Clearly Geelong is not our trade partner of choice.- Oliver Trade Rumours
They’re in their playing primes and they want to keep winning. Letting this play out the way it has for 12 months has put us in the laughable position of having a player locked into a long term contract and cornering ourselves into making the choice to let them go for unders.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Suspect Clarry is only wanting a trade to Geelong. The other clubs will likely know that.- Oliver Trade Rumours
We’ve mismanaged Clarry to the point where we will be virtually giving him away. Getting rid of him may fix some of the issues/distractions, but we don’t move forward as a club without moving on the folks who mismanaged this so badly. Farcical.- Oliver Trade Rumours
I think that's right. There were rumours of the Cats believing they were a chance during the season. What I think has happened is Geelong were lurking since last year and once the club became aware Clarry was talking to them (post Brownlow meeting I guess), Pert's reached out to clubs to see if there was a market and potentially get a better return. The club would, like us, know that Geelong being the sole bidder would guarantee a poor return. No surprise then that it's reported that if Clarry goes, he would only want the Cats.- 2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
That’s about his range, which probably explains why WC are one of the clubs going after GC’s pick 12. Probably crazy enough to give up their future 1st to land p12, which could blow other bidders out of the water.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Of course they do. They’ll say we’re doing you a favour and the only way you’ll get a single first rounder is if you agree to pay some of that contract you gave him.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Multiple outlets reporting that Pert broached the topic with officials from other clubs in GF week. Guessing those other clubs passed that on to media.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Could be from the Board as well. Really looks like there’s a widening divide between FD and upper management & the Board. If that relationship isn’t strong and unified and if mistrust has taken hold at those levels, there has to be change at the top. Correction won’t happen organically without it.- Oliver Trade Rumours
It’s starting to grate how much negative information about players (be it Oliver, Petracca, etc.) gets leaked once the club starts to look bad in a PR sense. Questioning our culture due to ‘recreational behaviours’ is something, but so easily backgrounding against your own players when the narrative runs against you screams terrible culture and weak leadership. We’ve seen this in political parties of all persuasions and usually ends badly. It’s corrosive and toxic.- Oliver Trade Rumours
To quote Lincoln ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand’. Seems Pertinent.- Oliver Trade Rumours
Country lifestyle…and general stability. Our administration is looking like a mess right now.- Oliver Trade Rumours

Did Eastern Ranges just clone Josh Smillie and name the clone Oliver Greeves? Separate note, GC have a beauty in Zeke Uwland.- 2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
What does his camp think about Melbourne? This feels like a very strange move. Is he trying to torpedo his own chances of going top 5 by putting off Eagles & Crows?- Dan Houston
Pretty much.- Dan Houston
North are prepared to offer their future 1st, which could be quite high next year. - Oliver Trade Rumours
