We clearly aren't amongst the top tier of clubs in the comp this year, but I also don't think we should be a bottom 5 team either. I don't think it's completely unrealistic to think that a competent key forward might have helped deliver 2-3 more wins this season, which would have us knocking on the door of the 8. If we're going to the market and trying to get players into our club (and many criticisms of our list have focused on the quality of players brought in from elsewhere) what are we selling if it's not some form of contention? What are we selling Kozzy as he heads into his peak years? Geelong & Collingwood clearly don't believe in bottoming out, and I suspect that's the model our FD will be looking to emulate (notwithstanding the number of youngsters we've already integrated into the first team).

I wondered the same thing after watching the clip...she also mentioned that some clubs believe Richmond and Melbourne are having a big crack, so suggests that Caro may have misspoken and meant North initially (or that we're having a crack regardless of what his camp thinks, which seems REALLY unlikely). On Darcy Wilson, I remember there were some views that he wasn't strong in the contest and too outside. I was a fan and didn't quite share that view and was hopeful we'd take him with our second choice. On talent he seemed the best available at our 2nd pick. By draft time Saints & Crows seemed the ones most linked with him, so not sure if we preferred Kolts competitiveness and what our current views might be.

Depth not great this year. Not many clubs fighting to get into the first round , GC's pick from Port (currently p8) is up for grabs (due to the number of Academy prospects they have), but we won't see the same frenzy as in previous years. Too much of the talent up top is already tied to clubs. Not saying there isn't an opportunity to get a good player, but this crop is in the race for 'most compromised draft' status. For reference, if Harvey Langford was eligible this year, he'd be well out in front as favourite for pick 1.

I thought we’d do well to crack 20 000 given we were playing GWS & weather conditions. We pulled 16k against them last year & just under 18k against the Power a couple of weeks later without the same headwinds (so to speak). 23k isn’t terrible in that context.

I thought GWS got us on ground ball and some of our defensive stoppage work was poor. Some of this might have been down to Mayzie not being there to organise and settle on stop plays. We panicked and turned the ball over in defensive half after repeat stoppages in GWS’ forward half, but the good news is that these issues are fixable. It hurt to lose that game, but it’s the first of a long season. We showed a lot.

Ugh, last minute of the game no less. Shattered for AMW, was showing some great signs.
