How good are the write ups on these kids? Chris Mayne - ?? ???? 1989, 182cm 84kg. Perth "BoyFromTheWest: Another 1988 birth player who was injured last year but has smashed them in colts, reserves and league this year playing at half back, half forward or midfield. Genuine pace, markes well, excellent disposal skills and genuine at the ball. Will play seniors in 08. " "Sico17: One club has very keen eyes on Mayne especially and will not be happy if he has an increased profile. I was surprised he didn't get into the U18's, plays mainly at FF when I have seen him but pinch hits in the centre when Perth are under pressure. A strong body for his age and seems to be the true leader of the Perth colts. His field kicking is a problem but his goal accuracy has been fine when I have seen him, he kicked the first 4 goals straight against Subiaco earlier this year the week after Subiaco had beaten Swan Districts. " "dan.wg: I got to agree he's a really good player and was best on ground or close to it everytime I umpired him. Mainly played forward and is pretty good on the lead. Goal kicking didn't seem to be a problem. Rarely played in the center and I figure hes more suited as a leading target. Maybe questions about his temperament, but not too much a problem. Has a fairly good head about him. " "Sico: One club has very keen eyes on Mayne especially and will not be happy if he has an increased profile. He's an AIS boy and it was probably the best game I've seen him play. It was not ideal conditions for him because he's a running half-back who likes to get handball receives and carry the footy. He's an athlete and he won plenty of the ball in conditions that didn't suit him. Vic Metro/Western/Spotswood "Mjp: Bottom age player who made the Vic Metro side, before injuring his knee in game one. Before that, he showed an ability in the second half of that match to 'adapt' to the increased pace of the game (after looking at sea early) and was trusted by the coaches with kick-in duties. A fantastic reader of the play, he has played forward, midfield and back at TAC level and is regularly amongst the best players (regardless of role). And to the love and joy of all Dogs supporters, he comes from Spotswood, just a short march from the Whitten Oval! Please feel free to ignore this one if I have been replaced as a selector! If not, this is how it all looks: " "Yarraville's Callan Ward was the Jets' stand-out in his comeback game from injury, starting on half-back before pushing forward in the second half. The bottom-aged Vic Metro representative's ball usage was so good that on occasions it even surprised his coaches. ``I remember one time where he ran with the ball and ignored a couple of teammates who were on short, so I was wondering where he was going with that,'' Sexton said. ``He then kicked it long to a player who was running into space towards goal, showing how good his vision is.'' " "Callan Ward continued his tremendous run of form with 19 possessions and two goals, while Melton's Mitchell Banner had 33 touches and provided great run, for the Jets with his 12 handball receives. " "Weever: Ward started the year in the backline as a Bowden-like possesion gathering backman. Was fringe-Vic Metro, was one that was obviously going to be one to watch, but perhaps one for next year (being bottom aged). Kicked well, moved well, showed promise, but not quite there yet. Was going to be in pick 60-70 consideration as a club pinched him out of next year's draft. As the season went on he got bigger (maybe 2-4cms), he got heavier (maybe 6-7kg). He shaved his head and went to the HFF line. He had the occasional run on the ball. We went from a player who let the game come to him, to being a guy who would get frustrated when his team struggled and would Hird-like put himself on the ball, snatch a clearance, kick a goal (not comparing him to Hird as a player ... just that tendancy to take the game into his own hands). By end of season he is a 185cm ruck-rover in the making. Effectively playing CHF for Western and being a one-man band at times. Shining out over the others with his marking, his attack on the ball and long kicking. Often times what jumps a guy up the order is not 'talent' which is about as far as many people break it down. What Ward was showing was a willingness to take the game on, a willingness to take on the challenge of lifting his team. Plenty of blokes (like Joel Bowden) take whatever the game offers them. They go to the loose man, they run where there is open space etc. Not too many make the game and try to shape the game to their will. Ward may be a flop but his rate of improvement this season was gigantic. The draft is about where a bloke will get to in 4 years and although Ward is half a lap behind some of the 'guns' he is going at 5 secs a lap quicker than 'em. The AFL clubs won't miss that. Northern Knights/Eltham "KEAF: Luke Stanton really a good player, also knows how to position himself around goals very nicely, has great foot skills, a natural born talent, even thought people have doubted him, i think Stanton is definitely up there in getting drafted. Not many players have such talent, with the left foot so damaging. Player to watch! " "Mav: I'm surprised that Luke Stanton wasn't invited. He's a 191 cm Northern Knight who played Wing and maybe flanks. Looks like a younger and smaller Luke Darcy - athletic and imposing build. He was last-named of the best in the Northern Knights' win in the first final, and was 3rd on the best players list in the PF they lost. Seems to be quite well skilled, and has that self-assuredness bordering on arrogance of a youngster who has been among the best players throughout his junior footy. Others have noted he hasn't really physically imposed himself on contests, which appears to be true, but he's bottom-aged (DOB 08/01/90) so should develop well. Maybe he'll be invited to the State Screening. " "Blakey_34: Luke Stanton goes to my school and plays 1st, can play but not all the times, cousin of Nick Dal Santo, and plays like him a bit with poise, good mark, somtimes contested not often, and perfect build for a footy player. " "Mav: Thanks SEC. I reckon Stanton must be on someone's radar, and I'd be amazed if he didn't at least make it onto a rookie list - 17 yo 191 cm mids are worth a close look. If a recruiter thinks that he might be a smokie that no one else wants, the last thing he'd do is to nominate him for Draft Camp and show him off to other recruiters. Hopefully WH is interested, and you'd have to say Stanton has the build to attract WH's interest. "

It's a bit harsh on the big lug who set Carlton on their way to snaring Judd with five straight behinds. Tanks for nothing, eh?
-
Good point raised on 'ology. Brisbane getting pick 14 + a player (Rhys Shaw, I know, but still) for an untried ruckman. Us getting just pick 14 for a 200 gamer and recent B & F winner? Doesn't seem quite right... Mind you TJ comes out of contract next year, doesn't he? I'd prefer to get something decent now , than nothing next year...

Isn't Jared Brennan up for grabs?
-
Agreed. As far as opposition teams go, I'm generally pretty apathetic when it comes to Richmond. Don't hate them as much as the McPies or Carlton, don't have a softish spot for them like maybe Hawthorn. If they screw Carlton and nab Judd, they'll be my no 2 team!

I'l luv it if this happened. Can PSD draft picks be traded?

From Wikipedia: Whilst not the quickest player, he is noted for his quick hands and strong marking ability for a player of his size. since the beginning of the 2002 season, Hasleby has not missed a game, despite suffering at times from a hernia-like injury during the 2005 season [2]. In seasons 2003 and 2004 he was ranked in the top 10 in the league in total disposals (kicks plus handballs).
-
Didn't represent them very well. He is a ball magnet though.

How are Carlton going to hang on the Gibbs, Murphy's (Kreuzers?) with Judd's salary eating into the cap the way it will. What happens at contract renewal time when their kids have established themselves and start asking for the money they will likely deserve. Either they'll get poached, underpaid or breach salary cap (again!). Here's hoping Carlton cripple themselves by paying iver the top money for the mercenary.

Yeah, I'm intrigued to know what Harris has to say, and what his tone is. I understand why he said the things he said in yesterdays release, and if anything Judd is the one who is coming out looking like the tool. I would have prefered that Harris not downplay the club to the extent that he did, but perhaps he was having a back handed go at Judd and it should be read in a mocking tone. I certainly found Bailey's comments re: our facilities to be amusing backhander at Juddas!

A poster on Demonology reckons the real reason Judd didn't nominate Melbourne was salary cap issues (his requested salary wouldn't fit). How on earth do Melbourne have salary cap issues with its current list? I understand why Carlton are still in the running if this IS the reason, but how are Collingwood still alive? Anyway, I found this article to be an interesting summary of yesterdays events: http://realfooty.com.au/news/news/two-left...ge#contentSwap1

Jarrod Waite + something might be worth something. He plays tall, and has terrific potential. I agree that trading pick 4 is unlikely now. If anything, it might be worth trading to get another pick in the top 10. Rance + Palmer/Ebert would more than offset any disappointment I feel about the Chris Judd situation.

Send your abuse to Melbourne Victory soccer club
ChaserJ replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is not the Victory's fault. Using the facilities were a poor rationalisation for a player who ultimately is chasing the money. The forum on Mark Bailey has Bailey quoting Judd saying 'this is a real footy club' when he first was shown the Junction Oval facilities. Doesn't that make the statement on the MFC website a tortology? The Victory were making decisions based on success, and I applaud them for thinking bigger. That has been a fundamental problem with MFC, that is why MFC are where they are now, and potentially why we can't attract the likes of Chris Judd. That said, I think our current coaching set up (and administrative to an extent) is starting to head in the right direction. Judd is being found out for the mercenary he is, and at least we wont have to sell the farm to get him. Bring on the draft! -
Sigh. I'm completely deflated. Very disappointing.

Fox News reports Demons are red hot favorites for Judd
ChaserJ replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Judd rollercoasters going to be the end of me! I swear, each skerrick of information is giving me palpitations, and by the look of the posts, a fair few other Dees fans as well. The question I have with the Fox Sports report (as I have had with all info coming out) is, 'what is the basis for the assumption that we are now favourite'? Is it based on two day old conjecture (footy classified?) or new information? I'm still strapped in and holding the railing... -
Not that I want to see him go there, but if Judd is to go to the McPies, the Rusling, Brown and pick 14 to the Weagles is the deal I'd like to see. This would SERIOUSLY deplete the McPie's tall stocks. Not only would they lose two young talls with great potential, they couldn't even use their draft pick to try and get a replacement. i know I posted the rumour, but in the light of Clements departure, and Wakelin, Rocca to follow suit sooner rather than later, it doesn't seem likely. If it happens, the McPies will take steps backward (which I could deal with).

This post doing the rounds at big footy and Demonology: Juddy and his manager have chosen Collingw&%$. W.C will deal. Eagles want brown to be part of the deal. Thats the deal breaker, no deal if brown is off the table. Want a KP forward. Also our 1st round pick. The deal is Brown + Rusling + 14 + downgrade of picks to rd3 Pies have spent 1.2 million this year on our recruiting department and would be [censored]ed off having to sit the year out. But they have agreed. There is also something dodgy going on with a young WA player on our list who wants to go home. Collingw&%$ have also opened up its draft process and prospects to west coast for 07, 1.2 million dollar favor. Does not inc SA prospects. Woosha doesnt care what picks he receives 1-20, thinks they can develop anything, rates brown and rusling high compared to available KP talent this year. Doesnt want midfeilders, only talls. hunter, mitch, nath, rus, glass is something of a nightmare and fixes WC talls in one trade without even entering the draft. So they are rebuilding in a premiership window. This will ensure sustained success for the next decade.

Is it just media supposition that Collingwood is his preference? I've had the impression that Connors has released bits and pieces to various members of the press (bytes to drive up the price? creating speculation?), did the Collingwood preference leak from Connors?

This is a little off topic, but this gag made me laugh when I read it: A primary teacher starts a new job at a school in Collingwood and trying to make a good impression on her first day, explains to her class that she is a Collingwood fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Collingwood fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says: "Mary, why didn't you raise your hand?" "Because I'm not a Collingwood fan," she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked: "Well, if you're not a Collingwood fan, then who are you a fan of?" "I'm a Melbourne fan and proud of it," Mary replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. "Mary, why are you a Melbourne fan?" "My mum is a Melbourne fan and my dad is a Melbourne fan, and so I'm a Melbourne fan too!" "Well," said the teacher, in an obviously annoyed tone, "that's no reason for you to be a Melbourne fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mum was a prostitute, your dad was a drug addict, and your brother was a car thief, what would you be then?" "Then," Mary said, "I'd be a Collingwood fan."

Hardwick seems to be firming. Seemed to interview ok with Melb as well. I'm guessing the position wont be finalised until after Bomber Thompson meets with Essendon folk. I'd read somewhere that Sumich and Judd didn't get on that well.

Heard a rumour that Twigley has signed a contract with Channel 7. Can anyone verify this?
-
Nice. How about a Simpsons/Monty Burns scenario. Eddie, Pratt, Lloyd and Bailey are standing in front of Juddy's desk. With, the press of a hidden button, Eddie, Pratt and Lloyd have the trap door treatment into the eel infested pool, while Bails hands Chris the number 3.

Thanks for confirming. Another conspiracy debunked! Yeah, she did quite well, very polished. Also read that she's completing her qualification in speech pathology, and she will spend a couple of months longer in WA completing this before she joins Chris in Melbourne.
