Green, although he's not as reliable as he once was. Brock's pretty good inside 50. Ditto Davey.
-
Frawley was a winger deep into his junior playing days, and does have a bit of pace. Then had a growth spurt and started playing key defence. At least until he gets a bit of bulk, he might go ok playing on smaller forwards and being a rebound defender.

Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!

We haven't exactly got the best midfielders going around. We need blokes that can get the ball down and with pace and skillful execution. Brock is the only bloke that can do this, but he's not the fastest bloke over 10m. -

Profiles from the following article: http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/dick...851.html?page=3 NICK NAITANUI (WA): Be warned, Naitanui is still honing his kicking and game sense, and at this stage isn't the complete prospect either Matthew Kreuzer or Matthew Leuenberger was in the past two years. However, he is excitement plus, an athletic, high-leaping ruckman it's hard to keep your eyes off. DAN RICH (WA): Rich looks like an angel with his blond curly hair, but don't be fooled: he's a hard-running, hard-at-it midfielder who can use the ball in and outside packs. If Essendon should end up with the No. 1 pick, he'd be a very big chance to be chosen there. CHRIS YARRAN (WA): A clever, classy goalkicker who can mark, crumb and do some freaky things. Has been kicking a lot of goals playing senior level WAFL this year. MICHAEL WALTERS (WA): As above, a smart goalkicker who hits the ball hard and starred at last year's under-16 championships. HAMISH HARTLETT (SA): A likely top-10 pick, Hartlett's had some injuries this year. He's a clean and classy midfield prospect who uses the ball very neatly. MICHAEL HURLEY (Vic Metro): A big, strong and bustly key position prospect, who has looked good at either end. JACK WATTS: A tall and pacy key forward or back, who is also a national level basketballer. Has had some injuries but will play some of the carnival. TYRONE VICKERY: One of this year's leading ruck prospects, a 200-centimetre graduate of the 2007 AIS-AFL Academy who has recovered from a knee reconstruction done early last season. JACKSON TRENGOVE: A big leaper who did good jobs on first-round draftees Matthew Kreuzer and Ben McEvoy late last year. Can play as a mobile ruckman or in a key forward or back line role. AARON CORNELIUS: A natural forward with clean hands who makes nice leads. Good when the ball hits the ground. JACK ZIEBELL: Has had some injuries but at 188 centimetres is a talented all-rounder who has looked good in all parts of the ground. -

KPP's or much of anything else. A really weak draft, Cooney aside, not much that we missed out on here. McLean was a good choice, and C. Johnson slowly showing some signs. Still waiting on Sylvia :-( -

After watching the Demons this season the Demons have an obvious need for a key forward. It's the biggest onfield gap. Watt's appears to have his own freak brand of athleticism and seems to have the football skills to match. In terms of marketability, if his athletic, pack marking game translates to the senior level, that (and a bit of on field success) should take care of itself for the Dee's. However, after watching the game at Manuka, we also have a glaring need for a big time clearance winner. We got hammered in the clearances and struggled to win contested ball. Naitanui's a clearance machine, and has averaged 4-5 hard ball gets over the last couple of years. He needs to work on his positioning around the ground, doesn't seem to get much of it outside of ruck contest situations, but that's something he should be able to pick up. Each player represents a significant need for the club. Big choices to be made. -

THROUGHOUT the remainder of the 2008 NAB AFL under 18 championships, AFL youth and high performance coordinator and former AFL star Jason McCartney will give afl.com.au his thoughts on the players who caught his eye. Here are his assessments after Victoria Metro defeated South Australia by 53 points at Adelaide Oval on Sunday. Victoria Metro: Jack Watts: Jack is a star. He’s one of our AIS boys and he’s also a very talented basketballer. He wanted to balance both footy and basketball through the scholarship program, but in the end he has chosen to go for football because his workload was just too great. He was a star in Vic Metro’s win Vic Country. He was a little bit quiet against Tasmania, but obviously very prominent against South Australia. He kicked five goals, had 17 disposals and took three really big contested marks. He has great agility, great lateral movement and the ball just melts into his hands. There has been a lot of talk about the WA boys and how talented they are, but Wattsy is a great kid and is right in that mix. -
Lying under oath is.

I was lucky enough to speak to Jimmy after a Reach Foundation presentation at work today. He was open and honest about his views on the club's situation (culture needs to be rebuilt from scratch, brand reestablished...he was a tad more severe than that, but that was the gist), which refreshingly didn't have any rose colored spin. He did spend a lot of time canvassing for alternatives to taking over himself (Garry?), and the only choice he felt he was left with was to step forward and take responsibility. Jimmy's clearly passionate and he seems like he has a clear strategy in place. And he was adamant that the role should be for a Melbourne man. A football person, not a business person. I can't helped but be excited by Jim taking charge. Good luck big fella.

No arguments on chasing and manning up being a must. It was painful watching Collingwood chipping the ball around while continually having a loose player available to receive. Yze should hear about his mistakes from the coach during the week (if he hasn't already). Dropping him is still harsh. Especially in the context of the players Melbourne have available.
-
There is a dearth of experience in the senior team at the moment, which, combined with Yze's very good form for Sandy, warrants Yze's selection. The team we had on the park today is very young, and I think Yze's got a viable, valuable contribution to make. Dropping him for a couple of mistakes wouldn't achieve anything. Sure, he didn't spot up available options, but it was very late in the game, and the Dee's did need to keep the ball moving quickly (and he was a little bit unlucky with the kick that landed in the goal square and bounced back into play..what the hell was that?!).

Yep, listened to the last quarter. Just about the only time I've ever wanted the Blues to win. Now, if they go on to miss the finals, and we finish with four wins while ending up with pick one, I'll be happy.
-
Blues are officially out of the running for priority picks.
-
Me too. I have a good feeling about how the backline is starting to come together. I remember a post on 'land a while ago talking about Garland shutting Neita down completely in a practice match. Looks like he's starting to bring that form into the premiership. Warnock and Garland could be the huge plus points when we look back at the end of this season.

"Kangaroos – 29,217 (note Gold Coast game, the in-Melbourne Average is about that of the other two)" And we have our ACT appointment in a couple of weeks. I'll just happen to be in Canberra that weekend, so I'll try and keep our attendance numbers up by dragging a few mates in.
-
Good point. If we're going to stockpile picks, this would be the draft to do it. So much talent available. And we still haven't seen Maric and Grimes in the team yet! Despite our struggles for the last two years, we have a good future. Now if we can just pick up a strong marking forward at some stage...
-
How are the probabilities looking? In all probability Rich and Hurley will be very good footballers. We know what we get with them. So many intangibles with NickNat. How long till the draft again?
-
He's definitley got the potential to play like a Goodes like tall midfielder. The 'On the Couch' footage this week was very exciting. The passage where he tapped a throw in straight to a teammate who was crunched. followed up by picking the ball up Kouta style and riding a tackle to handpass to advantage left me grinning ear to ear. He averaged four hardball gets at Colts level last year, so he throws himself in. I'd really like to see him get more of the ball around the ground and show some marking ability (this is where Kreuzer edges him). I've watched last years Vic Metro v WA game, and seen a few highlight packages of him, can't recall seeing an overhead mark in there.

Great post, mate. Can feel the passion through the monitor.

I'll keep an ear out!

I'll be there...

This article focuses more on junior McKernan, but Watt's is mentioned. I think our first pick has to come from Naitanui, Hurley or Watts. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...4-19742,00.html -
Wasn't one of those blokes from Hawthorn? They chose Roughhead before choosing Franklin, right?
-
This kid looked alright in the practice matches, and is doing ok for Sandy 2's. Think we should get him on the list next season, could be the tall forward we need.
