Anyone think big Will Sullivan is worth a shot? I'd love for us to rookie list David Gourdis if Richmond don't jump at him.

I watched him closely in the Vic Metro WA game and not as strong (both in body and overhead) as Pavlich, but a better mover. Struck me as a James Hird type. Smooth mover, fantastic kick (his 40-50 metre passing is something to behold), and a good pair of hands. Seems to glide across the turf, needs to strengthen up for a key position spot, projects as a flanker wingman at this stage. Can see him playing a few games next year.

CAC always said that they would draft the perceived best player available at every pick. It wasn't a very deep draft for KPP's. I'd rather us get a quality mid than a mediocre tall, and it looks like we've done that with our first and second round picks. Bit surprised that Gourdis' name went unmentioned though...

Am I missing something or did Gourdis and Gaertner NOT get selected in the draft?

Good pick. He reminds me a little bit of Peter Vardy (he does look like he has greater all round potential, though).

Sensational! Had watched him the Vic Metro v WA U/18's game and was salivating at the prospect of this guy in a Demon's jumper. He really did stand out in that game. It looked more and more likely as the draft approached, but now that it's real, I am stoked. Go Dee's! :D

I'd be happy with any one of those guys with pick 14. Gourdis and Tarrant in particular.

He's an AIS boy and it was probably the best game I've seen him play. It was not ideal conditions for him because he's a running half-back who likes to get handball receives and carry the footy. He's an athlete and he won plenty of the ball in conditions that didn't suit him. We went from a player who let the game come to him, to being a guy who would get frustrated when his team struggled and would Hird-like put himself on the ball, snatch a clearance, kick a goal (not comparing him to Hird as a player ... just that tendancy to take the game into his own hands). By end of season he is a 185cm ruck-rover in the making. Effectively playing CHF for Western and being a one-man band at times. Shining out over the others with his marking, his attack on the ball and long kicking. Often times what jumps a guy up the order is not 'talent' which is about as far as many people break it down. What Ward was showing was a willingness to take the game on, a willingness to take on the challenge of lifting his team. Plenty of blokes (like Joel Bowden) take whatever the game offers them. They go to the loose man, they run where there is open space etc. Not too many make the game and try to shape the game to their will. Ward may be a flop but his rate of improvement this season was gigantic. The draft is about where a bloke will get to in 4 years and although Ward is half a lap behind some of the 'guns' he is going at 5 secs a lap quicker than 'em. The AFL clubs won't miss that. Good point raised on 'ology. Brisbane getting pick 14 + a player (Rhys Shaw, I know, but still) for an untried ruckman. Us getting just pick 14 for a 200 gamer and recent B & F winner? Doesn't seem quite right... Mind you TJ comes out of contract next year, doesn't he? I'd prefer to get something decent now , than nothing next year...

Agreed. As far as opposition teams go, I'm generally pretty apathetic when it comes to Richmond. Don't hate them as much as the McPies or Carlton, don't have a softish spot for them like maybe Hawthorn. If they screw Carlton and nab Judd, they'll be my no 2 team!

How are Carlton going to hang on the Gibbs, Murphy's (Kreuzers?) with Judd's salary eating into the cap the way it will. What happens at contract renewal time when their kids have established themselves and start asking for the money they will likely deserve. Either they'll get poached, underpaid or breach salary cap (again!). Here's hoping Carlton cripple themselves by paying iver the top money for the mercenary.

Yeah, I'm intrigued to know what Harris has to say, and what his tone is. I understand why he said the things he said in yesterdays release, and if anything Judd is the one who is coming out looking like the tool. I would have prefered that Harris not downplay the club to the extent that he did, but perhaps he was having a back handed go at Judd and it should be read in a mocking tone. I certainly found Bailey's comments re: our facilities to be amusing backhander at Juddas!

A poster on Demonology reckons the real reason Judd didn't nominate Melbourne was salary cap issues (his requested salary wouldn't fit). How on earth do Melbourne have salary cap issues with its current list? I understand why Carlton are still in the running if this IS the reason, but how are Collingwood still alive? Jarrod Waite + something might be worth something. He plays tall, and has terrific potential. I agree that trading pick 4 is unlikely now. If anything, it might be worth trading to get another pick in the top 10. Rance + Palmer/Ebert would more than offset any disappointment I feel about the Chris Judd situation.

This is not the Victory's fault. Using the facilities were a poor rationalisation for a player who ultimately is chasing the money. The forum on Mark Bailey has Bailey quoting Judd saying 'this is a real footy club' when he first was shown the Junction Oval facilities. Doesn't that make the statement on the MFC website a tortology? The Victory were making decisions based on success, and I applaud them for thinking bigger. That has been a fundamental problem with MFC, that is why MFC are where they are now, and potentially why we can't attract the likes of Chris Judd. That said, I think our current coaching set up (and administrative to an extent) is starting to head in the right direction. Judd is being found out for the mercenary he is, and at least we wont have to sell the farm to get him. Bring on the draft!
