Sullivan Robey
Or we could do a deal that would enable us to get Robey and Pickett. Iโll be surprised if we go to the draft with our current draft hand.

PODCAST: Trade Week Wrap
Leaving aside the draft for talent verses needs debate. After our trade period what are the positions/areas that you feel we are still lacking enough quality heading into the draft?

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8

Grading the Trade Week
Really needs a season or more to judge how well we have done with the players and picks we have brought in. But Iโm given us an A for our strategy and intent. We made the hard calls that needed to be made. Gots picks in that will allow us to add to our existing quality young brigade and build for our next flag. On top of that we brought in solid players and leaders to help us in the short term. Excited for the draft, preseason and next season. Go Dees

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
I havenโt studied the draft crop much this year so Iโm looking forward to catching up on it. Is there any of the champ games that our draft gurus would recommend as a starting point? With regards to what we do with 7&8 I think itโs exciting no matter what. We have the ability to move up or hold- it will all depend on how JT sees the talent pool. I think we will move up to give us the best chance possible of getting an A grader but we will wait and see. Of course after I watch a few games Iโll think Iโm an expert, choose a favourite from the draft pool and be gutted if we donโt get him ๐

Any confirmation of how much we are paying and for how many years?

Well done Tim Lamb, over to you JT.

Why canโt it- GWS are saying they donโt have the cap space- thatโs fair enough as this came late but they can make space over the coming years.

If we get 7&8 and improve our hand for next year I think we will have done very well. Before the trade period I was convinced we would have had to pay a big lump of his salary to get deal like that. Iโm hoping that the money we pay Clarry tapers off after the first year or two.

Agree at face value it seems odd that 24 would be included instead of the later picks but maybe we need one of those picks for CJ and JT might think the player we want will still be on the board at 28.

Yup, BH would have been nice but a good selection of picks is probably the safest way to build our next prem team. Get the majority of our talent through the draft and then add the missing piece through trade like we did for our 21 flag.

Giving up 24 seems like a loss but letโs wait and see what the final deal is. Ive been keen for us to improve our draft hand next year as part of the deal. Sounds like we are going to improve our hand for the next two years. The Trac deal needs set us up for the future. Improving our draft selections over 3 years is a good way to achieve that.

A future 3rd and paying half his salary. This must be the worst deal in AFL history. The only way we can polish this [censored] is if we look at it as a rebuild- or at least that our top draft pick this year is replacing Clarry. Top ten picks earn around $200k that added to the $700k we will be paying Clarry still gives us a net saving of around $500k a year for first couple of years and hopefully after that we arenโt paying as much so we break even. Thatโs how Iโm choosing to look at it from here on in, only may that doesnโt make me furious with how we have handled this.

And the same club that refused to let Derksen go last year and then never played him this year. Tell them to GAGF

The List Manager Tim Lamb
Probably not the right thread- but has there been any update on JTs contract? Heโs out of contract at the end of this year is that correct still? Very worrying if so.

Happy with this, gives us something different down back, Iโm sure will get plenty of games next year and hopefully brings his game to the next level. Watched a fair bit of him a couple of years ago and thought he was going to be a star. Fingers crossed he will be for the Deeโs

Essendon are reportedly interested in trading up for pick 1 to get Duursma so targeting a different pick. Richmond are open to trading one of 3&4. Eagles are also reported to be interested in moving up into top 10 from 13. All the above has been reported by Cal. I think we are in a good position to trade up if we get picks 7&8

Cal just said on trade radio that he expects us to move up the draft board if we get 7&8.

Probably- sure is fun though.

I think them asking for 24 was just a ploy to let us have a little win.

Just to add to the above- we know have a lot of new assistant coaches coming in with intel on other players. SSP could be a good option for us.
