He was already announced as leaving this year mate. Misson out: Demons fitness boss to move overseas -
The 2 Wagners and Lewis are our long term future?

Not a big fan or anything, but that's a staggering decision IMO. Best on ground last week, has form, can run, not even in the first 6 selected. Very strange.

Right you are, think I must have read it wrong. Calf soreness it seems. Ta!

So now you won't renew your membership if Jones is on the list next year? Sorry mate, love your passion, but that's a bit silly. Up to you though, we'll wait and see I guess. Cheers.

So for you, if Jones plays next year (even though he's played every available game this year) then the board is weak?

The people in charge now haven't been in charge for 40-50 years though, so to me that's irrelevant. I've already given you the examples of Vince and Lewis as far as 'sentiment' v hard decisions goes. I wouldn't have thought the board would be overly involved in list decisions? I'm honestly a bit confused about what you're even trying to say now.

Completely agree about it being a test and being about preparation for 2020, I'm just very concerned about how much we gave up in the Brisbane game and that it may be an indication of how a lot of the players will treat the rest of this year.
-
That's not what you've been arguing though mate. You've been saying we've held on to 'Melbourne' players too long out of sentiment. We've had huge list changes over the last 5-6 years if you're going to start talking about general trades and delistings rather than older 'Melbourne' players.

Round 15 saw probably our worst half for the season as far as intent and effort goes (let alone game plan), so it's hard to see much changing in the next 2 weeks.
-
Ok then, so which 'Melbourne' players have we kept on too long from an age perspective over the last 5-6 years?

Sure, which is why I used the examples of Lewis and Vince under the current club leadership.

Think we all have mate, but the point in using that time frame was to keep it relevant to the current club decision makers.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
Lord Nev replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Think I read somewhere here he was in the Casey coaching box for a few games? He's also worked with the MFC coaches this year according to Mahoney: "After chatting with Jordan about the next phase in his development, we decided that he would step away from the leadership group this season and transition into a role working closely with the coaches," Mahoney said. Source No guarantee that means anything for next of course, but he could do media as well as be an assistant coach. -

Potentially add a spot in the Next Generation Academy to the above list too... "Leading Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League coach Paddy Swayn has been hit with a seven-match suspension for abusing umpires." "The tribunal found him guilty and suspended him for seven games, meaning he is unable to coach for the rest of the home-and-away series and the first week of finals." "Swayn is one of the MPNFL’s most respected and informed coaches — he is involved in the Melbourne Next Generation Academy and a mentor program overseen by the AFL South East" "Edithvale-Aspendale coach and former Melbourne defender Graeme Yeats came out after the game and accused the Pines bench of trying to bounce the umpires. “From where I stood, it was clearly an intimidating attitude from their bench towards the umpires,” Yeats told Leader last Sunday. “It was really disappointing because it was a really young umpire. It was a really bad look for the game. It was a throwback from 20 years ago.” Source -

Fair enough, if the couple of claims I've made in there don't turn out then I'll expect a whack. -

Nup. I think most of us are just assuming it's a possibility given what we've done in the past with Vince and Cross, combined with how Lewis has talked about his passion for helping our younger players develop. -

Mate, I'm not interested in a game of internet tennis with you. I explained my reasoning for all that in the original post. If you want to discuss the topic, I'm happy to engage with you, but I'm not interested in this kind of stuff. Cheers. -
Absolutely agree Hodge is as smart as they come, and would have the edge over Jones in that way when 'making up' for their lack of speed. Would wager Jones has a few steps on Hodge speed wise though. Think the difference is Brisbane have a minuscule injury list and not too many worries form wise, compared to use where the situation on both fronts is dire and Jones has played multiple roles this season to try and cover that, with potential damage to his performance coming from it. That's part of the reason why i think associating the word 'selfish' with him is pretty unfair. I have high standards, but I also have an understanding of our reality. I did say that Jones would potentially not be playing if the injury list was small and form was reasonable. I'm not saying he's a gun player at this stage of his career. We didn't have a full list to choose from at the start of next year, I truly hope we do next year, but it's not that much of a common occurrence in footy. You need depth in various ranges IMO, so I see absolutely nothing wrong with Lewis being depth this year and Jones being that next year. I would argue given Jones' changing roles this year he's already classed as depth, yet he's played every available game. I think it's sad you'll be disappointed if he breaks the games record. You're assuming he'll be playing poorly yet being selected, which I don't think the evidence supports (Vince, Lewis), and given his time with us I think he deserves to be celebrated by supporters if he manages to earn that honour.
