  1. Think we all have mate, but the point in using that time frame was to keep it relevant to the current club decision makers.
  2. Think I read somewhere here he was in the Casey coaching box for a few games? He's also worked with the MFC coaches this year according to Mahoney: "After chatting with Jordan about the next phase in his development, we decided that he would step away from the leadership group this season and transition into a role working closely with the coaches," Mahoney said. Source No guarantee that means anything for next of course, but he could do media as well as be an assistant coach.
  3. Potentially add a spot in the Next Generation Academy to the above list too... "Leading Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League coach Paddy Swayn has been hit with a seven-match suspension for abusing umpires." "The tribunal found him guilty and suspended him for seven games, meaning he is unable to coach for the rest of the home-and-away series and the first week of finals." "Swayn is one of the MPNFL’s most respected and informed coaches — he is involved in the Melbourne Next Generation Academy and a mentor program overseen by the AFL South East" "Edithvale-Aspendale coach and former Melbourne defender Graeme Yeats came out after the game and accused the Pines bench of trying to bounce the umpires. “From where I stood, it was clearly an intimidating attitude from their bench towards the umpires,” Yeats told Leader last Sunday. “It was really disappointing because it was a really young umpire. It was a really bad look for the game. It was a throwback from 20 years ago.” Source
  4. Fair enough, if the couple of claims I've made in there don't turn out then I'll expect a whack.
  5. Nup. I think most of us are just assuming it's a possibility given what we've done in the past with Vince and Cross, combined with how Lewis has talked about his passion for helping our younger players develop.
  6. Mate, I'm not interested in a game of internet tennis with you. I explained my reasoning for all that in the original post. If you want to discuss the topic, I'm happy to engage with you, but I'm not interested in this kind of stuff. Cheers.
  7. Absolutely agree Hodge is as smart as they come, and would have the edge over Jones in that way when 'making up' for their lack of speed. Would wager Jones has a few steps on Hodge speed wise though. Think the difference is Brisbane have a minuscule injury list and not too many worries form wise, compared to use where the situation on both fronts is dire and Jones has played multiple roles this season to try and cover that, with potential damage to his performance coming from it. That's part of the reason why i think associating the word 'selfish' with him is pretty unfair. I have high standards, but I also have an understanding of our reality. I did say that Jones would potentially not be playing if the injury list was small and form was reasonable. I'm not saying he's a gun player at this stage of his career. We didn't have a full list to choose from at the start of next year, I truly hope we do next year, but it's not that much of a common occurrence in footy. You need depth in various ranges IMO, so I see absolutely nothing wrong with Lewis being depth this year and Jones being that next year. I would argue given Jones' changing roles this year he's already classed as depth, yet he's played every available game. I think it's sad you'll be disappointed if he breaks the games record. You're assuming he'll be playing poorly yet being selected, which I don't think the evidence supports (Vince, Lewis), and given his time with us I think he deserves to be celebrated by supporters if he manages to earn that honour.
  8. Agree mate. Just my impression as an outsider, but seems like Goodwin initially may have wanted all the power and responsibility, which is understandable as a former champion player, but the lack of experienced support has definitely shown in our performances, and his health potentially, this year, so facilitating him being able to delegate more and have more support seems like the best thing for his coaching development (and our club).
  9. There's a difference between saying Jones is a 'selfish' player who is only being selected to get to 300 games, despite all the evidence to the contrary, and discussing potential assistant coaches for next year after a year where we have under performed and had a coaching restructure. I'm not sure how those things are in any way similar, related or 'ironic'. But if you'd like to discuss the topic then go right ahead.
  10. Absolutely! Forgot about him to be honest. Seems a natural coach from the outside, and as a player always good on the lead he would be great for us.
  11. Yeah there's big raps on Lappin and Caracella, only reason I didn't list them is that I thought they might not leave their current environments at big successful clubs for us after they year we've had. Would definitely be keen though. Money talks, so worth a crack for sure. I hope Mathews stays, I think his particular areas of focus have been good overall for us, just not sure Plapp will be kept on.
  12. Just wondering if it's worth us having a central place to discuss our thoughts on a reasonably feasible coaching lineup for next season? It's not that far away from when the pieces start to move as contracts finish during August. Happy for other posters to put forward their own potential vacancies/options, but as it stands now from a mix of rumour, intuition, club situation and 'the good word' the following is a list of spots that could be open followed by some suggestions on who is realistically 'gettable' and could suit our specific needs: Senior Assistant/Mentor: Brad Scott, Brendon Bolton, Michael Voss, John Barker, Cameron Bruce ('good word'). With all the rumours flying about McCartney, there's definitely a feel he may not be around next year. Forward Coach: Leigh Adams, Brad Miller. No source, but just a feeling Rawlings could be annoyed by having to move from coaching his own outright team. May move back to Casey, may move on. Development Coach (at least 1 spot probably): Brendon Bolton, Brett Kirk. With McCartney possibly gone from this area, you could also add Rooke to the list who may not be around next year. Midfield Development Coach: Dean Solomon, Jordan Lewis. Would think Plapp could be in danger of not being renewed. Strategy Coordinator: Adem Yze, Brett Montgomery. A usually good source has surprisingly told me Jennings will look to move on end of season. Goal Kicking Coach (Part Time): Brad Green, Nick Riewoldt, David Neitz, Matthew Lloyd. New position, clearly needed. What do you think Demonland? Any rumours floating around? Anyone you think the club should be talking to for a specific role? Or any roles we don't have that we should? NB - No former Demons were included solely on the basis they are former Demons.
  13. No apology needed mate, I was confused too!
  14. Not sure why you're attributing that post to me when I didn't write it.

At least we know he "Won't back down"....
  16. Why do you guys even doubt this will happen? I don't get it. What players have we kept on too long (age wise) the last 5-6 years? Both Vince and Lewis saw plenty of VFL time in their last year.
  17. What a strange comment to say you don't think Jones should break a record because it would be "selfish". Do you honestly think the selection committee that have dropped both Vince and Lewis would treat Jones any differently? Hodge wasn't competing against any "Usain Bolts"? May is quick and has competed in the grand final sprint, Frost is one of the quickest in the AFL, Baker, Hunt and Salem all run through there and are quick. Find it strange that apparently Jones ruins our backline speed (1 player) but Hodge doesn't have any impact at all on the Lions overall speed (again, 1 player). The next part of your reply is all what ifs and hypotheticals. Lever is out injured, Jetta is out injured, Hibberd is not 100%, KK is out injured and we don't currently have Langdon, so not sure why you're arguing Jones won't be able to lock in a spot there, when we're dealing with the present situation not an unpredictable future one. No one has said 'Jones has a 22 spot forever'. What does Jones add? Consistency. He might not be a great player, but you at least know what you'll get and that when called upon you will at least get a consistent effort and performance. That level might not keep him in the team with a better injury list, but again, we're dealing with the present aren't we? If we ever have absolutely no injuries, absolutely no form issues and absolutely everyone is available, let me know what this magical 'best 22' is that you speak of. In my view, there's rarely such a thing and you need depth on your list, including some mature bodies, to get through any given season. Some here seem to think people are saying Jones has a reserved spot as long as he likes, but I've not seen anyone here say that.

Calm down and play the ball mate. Let's discuss your points: "You seem impressed by May getting stuck into a team mate" - I'm never "impressed" when this kind of thing has to happen, but I'm glad we finally have a leader not willing to just cruise through games/his career and actually wants to win. Nathan Jones has described May as one of the best directors of play he has ever played with. "this attitude did not win games for the Suns" - This is a facetious comment surely? You don't think development, coaching, resources, culture and more had anything to do with the Suns lack of success? You're blaming it all on May's "attitude"? Gee wiz. "like May he has not established himself as a consistent player" - Actually, through his 127 game career he has done just that. Frost has not. "Suns were pleased to get rid of May because he is not good leadership material" - He was literally a captain of their club. "May's attitude sucks" - What exactly is your source for this? Know him personally? Every single person from the club has praised his "attitude", are you saying they've all lied? Where is your proof? "May seems lazy and keen to blame others for his deficiencies" - Again, where exactly is your proof of this? What deficiencies does he have and whom as he blamed for them? My sources are the facts of his career and direct quotes from players and coaches of the club. What are yours?

Of course they weren't, and the presentation by Misson to the board made that perfectly clear. Watching training is great, and we all appreciate the reports here, but the official preseason fitness report by the Elite Performance Manager to the board of the football club is clearly a more reliable and accurate source of information.

What's caused it then, may I ask? This kind of a drastic change doesn't happen without reason. What 'above the shoulders' issues are there exactly? How did they start? How did the skills go so far downhill over one preseason? I believe people are saying the injuries are a cause for our form dip (not an excuse, there's a difference), which at least is feasible, but you're not giving any actual reasons. Would like to hear your thoughts on actual tangible reasons as someone who watches training more than anybody else.
  21. Very much agree mate. Sure, Oliver has some things to tweak in his game, but his intent and effort is there, but you can definitely question those aspects to Brayshaw's game this year. Gus just seems off, not sure if he's carrying an injury or has something happening in his personal life, but he doesn't seem himself onfield at all. Was 'dropped' last year for his training standards but somehow is escaping scrutiny this year.

May - 27 years old, 127 games, club captain, under 18 All-Australian. Frost - 25 years old, 83 games. Reckon May is close to the perfect person to be telling other defenders what to do actually. Who would you rather instructing him? Petty?

Gonna have to agree to disagree mate, we've seen the situation completely differently. I'm rapt to have a leader willing to instruct and put success before being 'one of the boys', makes it seem like we have a chance to finally change that culture that's held our club back for so long. Cheers and go Dees!

Not sure what you're playing the victim about matey, but pretty much completely disagree with everything you've just said. Frost isn't a whipping boy at all, this is in no way a thread for indictment of him, it's about assessing the tense few moments between Frost and May. One is an erratic, developing, talented defender who borders on cult figure status with us Dees fans, the other is a highly rated defender and former captain who oozes leadership, if our players opinions on that matter at all, (and I assure you, they matter more than ours). There is no slight on Frost, and I for one love that we finally have a directional leader out there as none of the current official ones playing seem to be any good at that at all.
