How come they can financially support a Sheffield Shield team, Big Bash team and NBL team but not an AFL team in a footy mad state?

All clubs, no matter how bad the situation is, climb out of the hole, improve, play finals and some win premierships. That's how the system is setup.

Yes I'm not disputing their skills. What I'm saying is that they didn't have to play in a zone defence, so they could stand in the goal square all game and only needed to move out when the team had the ball in the midfield and were moving forward.

NRL fans who aren't that interested in The AFL grand final won't watch it because it's on during the day and there'd rather be out enjoying their day off, but if it's a twilight game they'll probably turn it on because they're home.

I tend to agree. Coaches these days are reluctant to tag,. Intead they back their zone defence to do the job, but a zone defence is not the same as someone constanttly pushing, shoving and getting in your way.
