  1. Due to lack of disclosure, we still don't know what those young boys were injected with, and what lasting implications those substances may have on their future health. It is a disgrace. Then there is the talk of Hird coaching again, and some people loving the prospect. It makes me sick to the stomach. And just recently everyone got on their soap boxes to point at Melbourne and condemn them for "tanking". Again. Hypocrisy at its finest.
  2. Only now read the announcement by the AFL that Birds of Tokyo are to play three songs before the game on ANZAC Day. I am appalled by the AFL's thinking. People are not there to be entertained before the match. They are there to remember and acknowledge the sacrifices of the men and women in war. Eddie McGuire's response to the backlash? "These days if you turn up to the MCG there's always rock music going on in the stands so it's not as if it's just quiet." What nonsense! So fans need to be entertained by loud rock music EVERY time they go to the football? NOT on ANZAC day surely. Birds of Tokyo, although I am sure they are fine young men, is just not appropriate, let alone having a rock band playing at all. ANZAC Day is a morning of reflection and remembrance, followed by hopefully an entertaining enough game of football, without added razzamataz. I knew an Essendon supporter, who served in the war. He used to love the ANZAC Day matches. He would be turning in his grave.
  3. Selection is hampered due to our long list of injured players, which will disadvantage any football club. The club decided to go with Lewis and Jetta this week. I only expressed an opinion... I just want to go to the game and see an enormous EFFORT and a WIN from my TEAM, no matter who plays. When the injured players return the side will be much different I'm sure. You can only work with what is available at your disposal. I look forward to seeing one of the younger players putting their hands up (figuratively speaking) and taking on a leadership role on the field. I haven't seen it happen yet.
  4. Don't speak too soon. Razor Ray is booked in for Saturday. But David Rodan is one of the goal umpires. Hope Melbourne gives him plenty to smile about. Love his reaction when Melbourne kicks a goal.
  5. Experience is sometimes under rated. The youngsters may be fast, but their decision making can be poor, making them look like they are panicking under pressure. Now runners are not allowed on the ground, a player like Lewis can be invaluable to guide and settle the troops. From what Goodwin said, this is the role he is expected to do. I am not unhappy with his inclusion.
  6. Nearly choked on my dinner. Not only one-eyed, but also one-eared.
  7. I feel better knowing Lewis is playing, to give guidance to the youngsters. Sometimes experience is not recognized for its great worth.
  8. Thanks for taking the trouble in making it clear you were responding to the posts about Scully. Perhaps I wasn't clear as well. I did understand what you meant. I just wanted to make the observation there was no point in pursuing a player who was not interested in playing for our team, similar to what you made about S. We do not know what Buddy's desires are. He may like to do an Ablett and return to Hawthorn, but we can only speculate. He may want to stay at the Swans because they have looked after him well. As I said earlier, he does not share much of himself, so we do not know what he will want to do.
  9. This puts our speculation in perspective. Would Franklin even want to come to Melbourne? (The club, not the city). No one knows what he really thinks. He has always been somewhat of an enigma to me. He is a private person who appears to march to the beat of his own drum. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that. It's just the way he is.
  10. He could have taken the Buckley approach- my answer is going to be shorter than your question. Yes. No. Maybe.
  11. After highlighting the immense worth of having Lewis in the side and praising him so highly, I certainly hope to see him in the side on Saturday against the Saints, not in the VFL!
  12. Yes, I know. The first quote was from an author who is a funny guy. I think Colin Powell has always been very serious. And successful.
  13. I know this is off the topic, but I was pondering what it is which brings success. Today I heard someone say, there are three reasons for success, the problem is, no one knows what they are. LOL. I like Colin Powell's view- "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." Good pointers for a football club to live by.
  14. I'm convinced the talk around Scully was all a smokescreen. Kennett has taught every one at Hawthorn politspeak. We were told Scully would be lucky to play at all this year, his injury was so grave he may never return, Hawthorn were looking long term, blah, blah. Lo and behold, he has been playing since Round 2. It's a miracle! Win, win for Hawthorn. They got a bargain, and praise for the expertise of their medical/fitness team/programs. What a load of codswallop.
  15. You forgot to say, deceitful glory chaser who lied to a dying man. (Jimmy Stynes).
  16. According to Misson, Omac has no issues after the concussion, and will be available for selection this week. Lewis is looking to make himself available with a normal training session this week. Preuss will be subject to a test, but the hope is he will be available. May is still 2-4 weeks away.
  17. Always found the staff pleasant and helpful over the years. Last November there were some hiccups. Didn't receive memberships before Christmas as usual but late January. Shocked that the membership cards were made of cardboard, like tram tickets, the old Metcards. Had to wait till the office re-opened to find out why. Apparently there was a problem with the company producing the membership cards(?). Received new plastic ones before the season. Perhaps Melbourne is a victim of its own success? Not used to people wanting to sign up early, especially with the new guaranteed Grand Final ticket option? Not sure what the reason is. I can only speculate.
  18. I hope he plays. I like to see a big man with a big pair of hands standing his ground in the goal square. As he said post game, he will leave the ruck work to the best ruckman in the competition. He understands his role. A team player. I'm sure he knows his limits and will keep working hard.
  19. There is too much meddling with rules as it is. The umpires struggle to adjudicate the rules consistently as they are now. With each introduction of new rules every year and the need for umpires to get their heads around them, the basics are neglected. This year these basics have included the holding the ball rule, pushing in the back, deliberate out of bounds, to name only a few. Instead of the standard of umpiring improving each year it appears to be sliding backwards, creating frustration and angst among supporters. The AFL should be concentrating on the bones of the rules, not the fancy dressing. I would like to see one year when no announcements of rule changes are made. That would make a nice change.
  20. Mr MoneyBags? Weighed down by his bank balance.
  21. His players can do no wrong in his view. He didn't appreciate the speculation that one of them, especially one of his favourites, may have done something untoward. Plus the fact his darlings lost the match made him extra grumpy.
  22. Carlton back in now familiar territory. Rather them than us!
  23. I see Chris Scott was super quick to defend his precious pet Danger, despite not having enough information to form an opinion on the incident which may come under scrutiny. Because there was no free kick, there was no problem, was his view. The arrogance of this man is astounding.
  24. Not only unwatchable, but embarrassing. What a wilting flower. A man his size can easily stand his ground, therefore it is so obvious he is staging for a free kick. Shame.
  25. Brown is a bad stager who gets rewarded for a terrible impression of a dying swan. Should enrol in NIDA.
