  1. 50 bucks!! I would have staged a protest! Yes, that Ticketek site makes you panic and agree to anything. You would think we were trying to get Grand Final tickets, not to a game against Freo. We are members. Membership should be good enough. The machines scan our bar codes at the gate, so they know who has attended, for Covid tracking. (Unless it's for a big game eg. Collingwood etc.)
  2. James Jordan had a wonderful game for his debut. A team player, he knows how to kick a goal, and the way the players got around him must have boosted his confidence even more. One to watch. Well done JJ. ?
  3. Yes I agree all supporters face the same issues. But not all club supporters are the same and don't deal with these issues the same way. Thursday and Friday were also night games. Perhaps people were able to go because of no work/sport commitments. I know people who cannot attend on a Saturday afternoon because of their children's sport. Having said that it is also true a Fremantle game at the G has never drawn a big crowd. I have been to many of them, and the crowd today looked about average. Fremantle are not an inspiring team. The Eagles have many more fans here. Anyway, I still enjoyed the game and the atmosphere was loud where I was sitting and I caught up with other supporters I haven't seen since 2019, so I thought it was a success. Especially when the Grand Old Flag was played at the end.?
  4. Ok, so I just wrote something in Postgame about the reasons some people may not have turned up, so wrong thread. Anyway, where I was sitting there was plenty of atmosphere. We loudly booed the umpiring decisions just like the good old days. You know, pre Covid. Some people around me were jumping out of their skin, they were so excited being back at the footy. When Kozzie went for his flyer the screams were deafening. I thought the crowd was loud and proud. Maybe it depends where you sit?
  5. A few ideas on the crowd size. Lack of confidence by people in catching public transport. + Traffic was horrendous and did not match the crowd at the ground, so don't know where everyone else was going but it was a drainer being on the road. The ticketing system is daunting at first look, especially for people who are not as computer savvy as others. The explanation video on the Melbourne website is inadequate and doesn't give all the details. Some people may just decide not to bother. It was so much easier to carry your membership card. Paying for reserved seating as part of your membership and then being told you cannot sit there. You will sit where the computer allocates you. (You can only choose a section, if you are lucky.) Puts noses out of joint. People still worried about Covid. People worried about being in crowds and being jostled because not everyone keeps a distance. In 2020 many signed up to Kayo or Foxtel because of the lockdowns and got used to staying home and watching TV. Now they can have friends and family over to watch together now restrictions have been lifted. Local sports are returning to normal as well and people are playing their own sports.
  6. So, I took a stroll on a fine Saturday through the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens to the MCG and caught up with some old friends. There also happened to be a game on. Bonus! I know some people stayed away because they weren't comfortable in crowds and that's understandable. But things ran smoothly and we took our seats in time for the show. And what a show it was. Yes it was frustrating at times, but that's Melbourne. Everyone was a bit rusty. I had a ringside seat to witness a flying Kozzie nearly emulate the great Jeff Farmer. Lots to look forward to from this young player. He had the fans screaming with excitement. Saw the amazing Maysie take strong mark after mark and together with Lever repel the Dockers umpteen times. Saw the big Mac kick a booming goal from the Southern Grandstand. Breathtaking. Trac and Tommy Mac must have had a bet to see who could break the goal post with their wayward shots on goals. Through the middle next time lads. When is holding the ball not holding the ball? Answer: when a Fremantle player is given an eternity to find a team mate to throw it to. Clarrie was closely tagged and once more not looked after by the umpires. No matter, Melbourne won, the song was played, people were smiling and we didn't have to stay home to watch it on TV while it was played in Cairns or some other place. Win all round.
  7. Oscar is LOVING the sub rule.?
  8. Dusty won the game for Richmond and Oscar kept Carlton in the game.
  9. Amazing how a Blues jumper gets you a free kick. He would never have got that at Melbourne.
  10. This is me every week during the footy season. This is what anger looks like lads. Keep that in mind when you take the field. Cheers.
  11. Saw Majak, Deakyn and Kozzie hanging around together at the practice game. They looked like a tight little group. Congrats Majak and Deakyn. Saw Oscar too, watching his old mates. Told us Carlton had signed him up. Looked pretty relieved and happy. Good luck, Oscar.
  12. It's a bit rich listening to someone from Carlton talk about culture when Blues players drank to excess and caused mayhem when 'socialising' with each other and the club made payments under the table, cheating the system. Yeah, real good culture. Thanks Mark, you've said it before, come up with something new to waffle about.
  13. Thanks Heavens Max signed, not that I was ever worried about him not. Onwards and upwards. Come on Max, give Clarrie a nudge to sign on the dotted line.?
  14. Great to have Lever signed after a good season in 2020 where he played every game, so looks like his knee is holding up well. It's a confidence booster knowing he'll be there until the end of 2024. He is still young and already a leader and well respected at the club. Best of luck Jake!
  15. I agree over the years I preferred his work on the horse racing and the Olympics because of his knowledge. He was always one to wear his heart on his sleeve. He has battled on despite his health problems, but it is time for a deserved rest. Good luck Bruce. On the other hand I cannot abide Brayshaw. Even those commercials he does grate on me.
  16. Even though it's a practice game against Richmond (reigning Premiers no less), don't think I've seen a better game from Jake Lever. Solid in defence, intercepting and holding his marks. He had a big influence in the win. I'll go out on a limb and say Max and Jake were our two best players. Don't tell me the Tigers weren't trying.
  17. Chandler's check side kick for goal in the last quarter was a gem. Kicked three goals and had a great game. Looking forward to seeing him playing in Round 1- in person!?
  18. Can't get excited, sorry. Haven't recovered from the cancellation of the Cat Show last year. Jackson Galaxy was going to be special guest, dang it!
  19. Isn't there enough negativity in this world? I refuse to put people in a box.
