  1. I agree with the views about the team effort. Being at the ground yesterday, I saw groups of our players getting together if Geelong goaled, before the centre bounce, talking it out and supporting each other. I haven't noticed this before. It was heartening to watch. You don't get to see these things on the TV coverage. For the first time in a long time I have a good feeling about the team. They really do work for each other. Should defeat Hawthorn. I will be disappointed if we don't after what I saw yesterday.
  2. Someone needs to get off the Bailey/Bayleys and have a Clayton (the drink you have when you are not having a drink) ?
  3. Thank goodness the longer quarters are back. They showcase the fitness of our players.
  4. Arrived at the MCG in a howling wind and under a threatening cloudy sky, to be greeted by the sound of Led Zepplin's "Kashmir" booming around the ground. When it was followed by Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer", I took it to be a good omen for us. Let's do this! As others have said, what a great team effort. Everyone played well. Pressure was intense, desire for the ball fierce. Viney fought tooth and nail for every possession, May was his usual reliable self until Hawkins took care of him, Lever commanded the backline in his absence, Hunt and Langdon thrilled with their runs down the wings, Max dominated all day and kicked that long bouncing goal to shut down some noisy Geelong fans near us when needed, Kozzie was lurking about in everything and assisted in some special goals, always putting pressure on the opposition. What an exciting player he is, you just know he is about to do something brilliant and you are yelling "Kozzie!" before he has even touched the ball. Things are going well when Fritta kicks true! Clarrie didn't waste his touches with aimless flick passes. He took his time to look for a team mate. Just wonderful. Petracca, superb as usual. Pity he didn't kick more goals. Spargo's tackling, Salem's marking, Jones, TMac, Angus, ANB, all good contributors. Apologies to whoever I've left out. Overall a classy effort. So good to see off those arrogant Geelong supporters. There is nothing like an emphatic win to thaw out the bones after sitting in the cold and wet at the MCG late on a Sunday afternoon.
  5. Underwood lost me at the start of the game with the chummy banter about being surprised Mumford wasn't playing because he was "the enforcer". Dermie was having a good giggle too. The man is a thug. Why do they make heroes of these blokes? The commentators should know better. They didn't even have to mention him. I watched the game without listening closely to the commentary after that. Nothing they could say would have been of interest to me.
  6. The ball loves Kozzie. "Here I am Kozzie, I'm all yours" it swoons as it falls into his arms. ?
  7. Gutless umpire. That was a clear holding the ball.
  8. Have to use those rare free kicks, Clarrie.
  9. Can I just say I enjoy seeing Goodwin coaching from the sidelines? The hands on approach seems to be successful.
  10. Tomlinson did very well in the shadow of May and Lever. Wherever Kozzie is, the ball will follow him. He's a pure soul, he just enjoys his footy, "having fun." Love him.?
  11. Should stop trying to waste time and take the ball down to the forward line for some goal kicking practice!
  12. Why wasn't that a free kick for push in the back?
  13. Both my parents lived through the war in Europe but they never taught their children to be prejudiced. I hope you don't think I laughed at the old ladies because of the racial overtones, it's just that it was so unexpected. I was new to going to the footy and had only ever heard supporters abuse players by swearing etc (Collingwood and Essendon fans were the worse) so I was surprised to hear two little old ladies who were knitting at the breaks come out with what they said. From memory they were Saints fans so they probably held a grudge. I know first hand how cruel school children can be, so I'm sorry if I offended you.
  14. What a bunch of sooks those St Kilda players are. Shaking their heads when they have been gifted so many dubious free kicks anyway. And they argue with the umpires. Give them a box of tissues.
  15. My clearest memory of watching Big Carl was when I was sitting in the old Southern Grandstand of the MCG on the wooden bench seats, and two old(er) ladies (opposition supporters) yelled out " you German Ditterich! You German!" after he had whacked a player on the ear or somewhere. It was so funny, as though that was the worst insult they could think of. I'm sorry, but I think I burst out laughing. (Don't mention the war!) ?
  16. This bloke has lost touch with reality with his on trial for murder remarks. Is he serious? Does he expect sympathy? Did he watch the story about the suffering of Shane Tuck and the damage hits to the head did to his brain before his tragic death? No, I suppose he did not. Silly me, He is always only thinking about himself.
  17. I have no inside info and Clarrie is notoriously media shy, so it is difficult to glean any knowledge of what he is thinking, but I will go out on a limb and say I can't see him wanting to leave Melbourne. Call it a feeling or whatever. I saw an interview with him recently where he said he didn't enjoy being in the hub in 2020 because he missed his girlfriend and simple things, like sleeping in his own bed. He gave me the impression of someone who doesn't like change. Every time I've seen him with his team mates he is very animated and clearly enjoying their company. At the game yesterday after Trac kicked a goal from a pass by Oliver, Clarrie ran down to give Trac a hug and a peck on the cheek! No, can't see him leaving. Call me a romantic, but sometimes money doesn't drive everyone.
  18. Had a good view of this in the centre bounce time after time. Clarrie was getting harassed and held every time by his opponent. The gormless umpires did nothing. Agree with this! Can never get sick of seeing that mop of red hair. He was in everything.
  19. Never turn your back on a swooping hawk.
