CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Western Bulldogs
Yeah ANB does seem to get in the way and fluff his disposals a lot. It's frustrating. I would give him 1 more chance this week but i cant really see him being part of our long term plans for us in the future if he cant fix those issues in his game. We need to be better as a team at separation and skills if we want to improve, and he isn't really helping much in those departments.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
That's right, and bringing in cameron, who is below average in applying pressure in the fwd line, wouldn't help us much with another of our weakest areas either.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Western Bulldogs
isn't Smith out injured at the moment?

Sam Weideman
we have to be patient with Weideman. I think the sort of pre season the players were given was not what our young developing players were looking for. looks to me like their fitness/endurance levels have gone backwards this year, when instead it really should be building, year on year. Spargo, Weid and OMac have all had a few weeks off from playing this year and were put through "mini preseasons", according to the club. that's pretty much sounds like that they were out of condition to me. Weid isn't the full package yet, I wouldn't be writing him off until at least another year, hopefully in an improved system.

ANB Close to Re-Signing?
i'm no big fan of ANB, fumbly hands and misses too many targets with his disposal for my liking, but he will be needed as depth. we had a clearout of players last year and depth has proved to be relatively thin this year. so unless some other team thinks he is worth a trade (I think unlikely) I say we keep him as a fringe player and pay him accordingly.

Mid-season Coaching Revamp
well this is welcome news. I like the changes, and although limited with what they could do midyear, I think they are trying to at least fix the obvious problems. I just hope the damage is fixable at some point this year.

How Have the Debutants Fared?
to be fair Nev has never been that quick either. and age and injuries likely mean he will only slow down from here on also. but I also think we need a quicker and smaller defender in the mix down back. Hores not really a genuine option on those sorts with speed/agility and ground ball ability. Lockhart has played as a defender in the VFL, I think that is actually where he plays his best footy and would like to see the coaches further trial him as a small defender for the remainder of the year in the ones.

CHANGES: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
out- Garlett, TMac, Wagner in- Dunkley, Smith, KK B- Hibberd May Hore HB- Frost Lever Jones C- Salem Harmes Baker HF-Petracca Smith Fritsch F-Hunt Weideman Hannan R- Gawn, Oliver, Brayshaw int- Viney, KK, Dunkley, Spargo Salem into the midfield mix at times, Fritsch forward flank, and the inclusions of KK and Dunkley should improve our F50 entries. Jones to the HBF graveyard position, about the only place to hide him these days, a la Vince and Lewis before him. I want to see forwards like Hunt, Hannan, Petracca and Dunkley rotated through the midfield more to give it a different look and some burst speed at times. more forward minutes for the mids like Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw to add a bit of fwd line aggression and try to win the ground ball inside our F50 (instead of Garletts backpedalling). with the added bonus of they might actually learn how to kick to the forwards, by spending time having to play as one. Spargo under pressure with Lockhart breathing down his neck, but with only 1 game under his belt after a couple of weeks out injured, the bye comes at a bad time for him, so Spargo gets another game.

Opposition Accuracy is Killing Us
A high press with low leg speed in defence is the cause of this problem. Once they're through we can't stop them scoring. Its a bad game plan.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
I do. I reckon his biggest problem is a lack of a tank at the moment. he has showed he has good pace early in games but is easily spent. he busts his guts running but then looks cooked pretty quickly. he doesn't get much of it, but still he gets involved in plays that set up goals for us when he does, and that's why he got another game this week. and his size doesn't worry me, there's been plenty of good small footy players. like a lot of our blokes, he needs a massive pre season for next year.

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs Adelaide
Not sure really. He's been way off the mark all year. Seems to have lost the ability to jump or take a mark. He also cant kick further than 40m. He must be carrying an injury of some sort surely, because he was way better than that the last couple of years. Should have been spelled or dropped a fair while ago imo. Yet another mismanaged player.

Time to go Oscar!
that's a simplistic view. we lost because we were the worse side. OMac was part of that. he got beaten in crucial contests, repeatedly and easily. poor game from him, even by his low standards.
